Chapter Two: The Most Dramatic Wedding

The man possessed a face as flawlessly sculpted as if carved by a master, and when he lifted his gaze to meet Xu Xu’s eyes, it was as though a galaxy of stars shimmered within them.
Staring at this man who had appeared so suddenly, Xu Xu found herself momentarily stunned and lost in thought.
Meanwhile, the guests at the scene began to whisper even more animatedly—
“Who is that man?”
“No idea... Seems like he’s from the groom’s side.”
“He probably doesn’t get along too well with them, otherwise why would he stick his neck out like this?”
“This is the most dramatic wedding I’ve ever seen!”
Xu Xu snapped back to her senses. She had never seen this man before and didn’t know him, but since he dared to step forward...
“Sir, are you serious about what you just said?” Xu Xu fixed her gaze on the man, enunciating each word carefully.
He looked at her with a calm expression, though his eyes burned with intensity.
“I, Huo Hanshen, never joke.”
Huo Hanshen... What a pleasant-sounding name. But they both shared the surname Huo...
“What is your relationship with Huo Yunzhe?”
Huo Hanshen stared at Xu Xu for two seconds before answering in a slow drawl, “You could say I’m more or less his elder brother.”
Elder brother? If she married him, wouldn’t she outrank Huo Yunzhe in the family hierarchy?
Xu Xu restrained her heart, which was nearly leaping out of her chest, lifted her gown, and descended from the dais.
Very soon, she stood before Huo Hanshen. “Congratulations, from today onward, you are my husband.”
Huo Hanshen turned his head to look at the woman beside him, then reached out and clasped her hand in his.
“Mm, it’s my honor,” he replied softly.
His broad, warm hand enveloped hers, imbuing her with a sense of security.
Xu Xu was dazed for a moment. This man... seemed to have a rather good character.
Had she just struck it lucky?

But now was clearly not the time to let her mind wander. Xu Xu steadied herself and spoke again.
“Since I am now married, from this day forth, I, Xu Xu, have nothing more to do with the Xu family.”
Her words caused an immediate uproar among the guests.
Was Xu Xu out of her mind?
Although she was not the Xu family’s biological daughter, she had been raised by them for so many years. Without the Xu family, she would be an ordinary person with no backing at all!
Anyone else would be desperately trying to curry favor with the family at this point, yet she was severing all ties?
Listening to the crowd’s murmurs, Xu Xu grew even more nervous, her palms slick with sweat. She had always been a model daughter—if circumstances allowed, she would have continued to be so forever.
But everything had changed since Xu Yaru returned.
The parents who once doted on her no longer cared. The boyfriend who once adored her gradually grew distant.
Now, for Xu Yaru’s sake, they didn’t even bother to attend her wedding!
Yes, she knew Xu Yaru had suffered all these years, but what had she done wrong?
Ever since learning of the mix-up at birth, she had given everything good to Xu Yaru.
Yet Xu Yaru repeatedly feigned pitifulness to frame her.
Xu Yaru’s ploys were laughably transparent, obvious to anyone with eyes. Yet her parents, as if blind, believed every word Xu Yaru uttered!
They all thought she was narrow-minded, unable to accept Xu Yaru, eager to drive her away!
But she had never thought that way!
She had looked forward to this wedding for so long, only for it to become a farce.
She was exhausted... utterly exhausted. She didn’t want to keep hoping and being disappointed, again and again.
Most of all, she no longer wished to have anything to do with the Xu family.
“Do you regret it?” A deep, magnetic voice suddenly sounded in her ear, making her earlobes flush with heat.
Startled, she turned her head—her lips brushed lightly against the man’s cheek.
Xu Xu’s ears turned an even deeper red, a blush spreading across her face.

Why had this man suddenly come so close?
Huo Hanshen, however, remained composed and unruffled, betraying no sign of emotion.
“I will never regret it!” Xu Xu coughed lightly, then took Huo Hanshen’s hand and strode toward the dais.
Before the eyes of all present, she took out the pair of rings intended for the bride and groom. Without waiting for the officiant, she slipped her own ring on, then placed the groom’s ring onto Huo Hanshen’s finger.
“The wedding is complete! I wish you all a pleasant meal!”
With those words, Xu Xu ignored the reactions of the crowd and, hand in hand with Huo Hanshen, walked out.
Watching as the girl led him away, a barely noticeable smile tugged at the corners of Huo Hanshen’s lips.
And just as the two of them were leaving, Huo Yunzhe’s parents finally arrived, fashionably late.
Initially, they had been quite satisfied with Xu Xu as their future daughter-in-law.
But after learning that Xu Xu was not the Xu family’s real daughter, they found her more and more disagreeable.
What they thought was a golden phoenix turned out to be a fake sparrow!
Who could tolerate such a thing?
But the match had been set long ago, and to break it off now would make the Huo family appear too mercenary.
So, they decided to arrive late to the wedding, intending to give the bride a taste of their disdain—just to remind that little upstart not to mistake herself for a phoenix!
However, when they finally arrived, all they saw was Xu Xu, hand in hand with a man, leaving through the door.
“What...” Huo’s father rubbed his eyes. “The man Xu Xu’s holding hands with—doesn’t he look like the president from the capital?”
“You must be seeing things. Even the butler in the capital looked down on the invitation we sent, let alone that man himself,” Huo’s mother replied snappishly. “That Xu Xu—dragging some other man away in front of everyone—she’s disgracing our son!”
Of course, Huo’s mother was well aware that Huo Yunzhe hadn’t bothered to show up for the wedding—but so what?
Yunzhe was still willing to marry Xu Xu, this fake heiress. Xu Xu ought to be grateful!
And yet she dared to leave with another man, right in front of everyone. Shameless!
