“My goodness, did Manager Xu just blush?” one female colleague exclaimed in surprise. “I thought a career woman like Manager Xu would never get shy!”

“Everyone gets shy. It’s perfectly normal! But… wasn’t Manager Xu stood up by Young Master Huo at her wedding? Who was that man just now?”

The colleagues chatted as they streamed out of the elevator lobby.

“You’re seriously behind the times.” Another colleague began filling her in on Xu Xu’s spontaneous public proposal. “…Got it now? Our Manager Xu is truly something else!”

The male colleague who had raised the question immediately looked rueful. “If I’d known Manager Xu was going to propose on the spot, I would’ve gone to the wedding—even if I had to shamelessly invite myself!”

“Ha!” The male colleague who had explained the situation burst out laughing. “Buddy, you’re dreaming. Even if Manager Xu weren’t the heiress of the Xu family, with her looks and talent, would she ever be interested in ordinary wage slaves like us? Know your place!”

The female colleague beside them nodded vigorously in agreement. “Exactly! Manager Xu isn’t an ordinary woman!”

The others nodded as well.

“But don’t you think Manager Xu’s husband looks a little familiar?” a male colleague who liked watching the news asked hesitantly. “He kind of looks like…”

“Like what? Manager Xu’s husband is handsome. Don’t you know that all handsome men look pretty much alike?” the colleague beside him roared with laughter. “Only ugly people come in all sorts of bizarre varieties!”

Several colleagues nearby felt personally insulted and made as if to beat him up, frightening him into begging for mercy.

Everyone burst into laughter.

Even the male colleague who had raised the question shook his head.

“I must be imagining things…”

No matter how outstanding Manager Xu was, there was no way she could have married the president!

That would be absurd!

At the same time, Huo Hanshen led Xu Xu out of the company by the hand. Watching his tall figure from behind, Xu Xu’s heart began pounding wildly again.

“What am I thinking? He only married me because of the child. I can’t let myself get carried away!”

Xu Xu jolted back to her senses and scolded herself inwardly.

She absolutely could not become love-struck again.

The two of them found a restaurant near the company. It had tables outside that customers could use directly.

After they sat down, Huo Hanshen opened the insulated lunch box in his hand. Inside were sandwiches, fried eggs, and milk that he had prepared himself, all generously portioned.

“Put on these gloves before you eat.” As he spoke, Huo Hanshen took a pair of disposable gloves from the bottom of the lunch box and slipped them onto Xu Xu’s hands.

Xu Xu was genuinely surprised. He had even thought of something as meticulous as disposable gloves.

“What about you?” Xu Xu noticed that there was only one pair in the lunch box.

Huo Hanshen smiled. “It’s fine. I’ll just wipe my hands with a wet tissue when I’m done. Or…” He raised an eyebrow. “I could wear the gloves and feed you?”

Xu Xu fell silent.

There was absolutely no need for that.

Xu Xu was truly starving. Once she had put on the disposable gloves, she immediately grabbed a sandwich and buried herself in it. Huo Hanshen, meanwhile, ate in an unhurried manner, his gaze fixed on Xu Xu as he did so.

It was almost as though he were eating Xu Xu herself rather than a sandwich.

The moment was peaceful and idyllic—until the restaurant owner came outside with an apologetic expression.

“I’m sorry, you two. The authorities are coming to inspect the area, and all the tables and chairs outside have to be put away, so I’m afraid I’ll have to trouble you…”

Before he could finish, a large group of uniformed men approached from nearby.

Xu Xu and Huo Hanshen naturally could not remain seated. They quickly stood and prepared to leave.

The owner hurriedly began gathering the tables and chairs as well.

But the uniformed men arrived nonetheless. Seeing that their expressions were unfriendly, the owner quickly went up to greet them respectfully.

“Gentlemen…”

The man in front immediately darkened his expression and rudely cut him off. “Don’t try to butter me up! You’ve violated the regulations. You’re being fined ten thousand!”

Ten thousand!

That was far too much!

The owner panicked and hurriedly took a cigarette from his pocket, offering it to the man. “Please, sir! I’ll put everything away right now, and I won’t set anything outside again. Could you please let me off this time?”

The man slapped the cigarette away without the slightest courtesy. It fell to the ground, and he stamped on it, grinding it beneath his shoe.

“Issue the ticket!” he ordered the person beside him, ignoring the owner completely.

Afterward, his gaze swept over Xu Xu and Huo Hanshen, a trace of coldness flashing through his eyes. He then ordered the others to confiscate all the tables and chairs.

The owner looked as though he was about to cry, but there was nothing he could do.

Xu Xu had been watching from the side. Now she was furious. This matter had nothing to do with them in the first place, but the man was being utterly unreasonable!

How could anyone behave like this?

“Ha. If I remember correctly, this area doesn’t fall under public jurisdiction. What right do you have to issue fines and confiscate furniture as you please?”

Xu Xu slammed her hand on the table and glared at him.

The leader gave a cold laugh. “I have no right? What a joke! I’m in charge of every street in Hai City. I’m the boss here. If I say you’re being fined, then you’re being fined. If I say these things are to be taken away, then they’re being taken away!”

Arrogant—he was unbelievably arrogant!

Xu Xu trembled with anger. How could such a shameless person exist?

She had truly seen everything now.

Seeing that the situation was escalating, the owner hurriedly intervened. “Forget it, forget it. Miss, thank you, but please don’t say anything more. I’ll accept the fine.”

The man sneered again. Then he looked over the owner’s establishment and said bluntly, “Your shop not only violates building regulations, but also poses a safety hazard. I’m ordering you to close immediately for rectification!”

“What?” The owner panicked. “Sir, you can’t! This shop is how I support my family. I can’t close it! Please, sir, have mercy!”

Unfortunately, the man continued to ignore him. Instead, he turned toward Xu Xu and raised an eyebrow.

“Beautiful, weren’t you just trying to stand up for him? Fine, I’ll give you a chance. If you’re willing to admit in front of everyone that you were meddling in matters that didn’t concern you—and have a meal with me—then we’ll consider this matter settled!”

Clearly, he was deliberately causing trouble.

“You…”

Enraged, Xu Xu rolled up her sleeves, ready to give him a piece of her mind. But in the next second, Huo Hanshen caught her by the arm.

Xu Xu looked at him in surprise. Huo Hanshen smiled at her, then stepped in front of her.

Before Xu Xu could react, Huo Hanshen turned his cold gaze on the man and demanded sternly, “Which department are you from, to be speaking with such authority?”

Huo Hanshen’s presence was extraordinary. A moment earlier, he had merely stood there with his head slightly lowered, saying nothing. But now that his eyes were fixed on the man, even the official was intimidated.

He studied Huo Hanshen and sensed that the man possessed an unusual bearing. Somewhat wary, he asked, “May I ask who you are?”

“I’m her husband.”
