Chapter Fifty-Four: Apologize to Your Sister!
Xu Yaru had thought Xu Jianjun was speaking up for her and was about to feel triumphant.
But then she heard Xu Jianjun say angrily, “Apologize to your sister!”
Xu Yaru was completely baffled. “Dad, what are you—”
“Shut up!” Xu Jianjun cut her off sharply, his face cold and unyielding. “Didn’t you hear what I said? Apologize!”
Xu Yaru didn’t know the current state of the Xu Corporation, but Xu Jianjun surely did. He had once thought Xu Xu was insignificant, but he had underestimated her influence within the company...
Now, for the Xu Corporation to return to its former glory, Xu Xu had to come back.
“What are you waiting for? Apologize immediately!” Xu Jianjun urged her again.
Xu Yaru felt deeply wronged. Why should she apologize? She hadn’t said anything wrong!
Yet, unwilling to defy Xu Jianjun, she choked back her tears and said, “Sister, I’m sorry...”
“I won’t accept being called ‘sister’ by Miss Xu,” Xu Xu interrupted coolly.
Though she didn’t know what Xu Jianjun was scheming, she knew all too well the true nature of these two.
An apology?
Hmph, just crocodile tears.
“Xu Xu, I know you’re angry at your father. I admit that I was a bit too much at the banquet the other day,” Xu Jianjun said with an accommodating smile, ignoring Xu Xu’s cold expression as he played the role of a doting father.
“No matter what, we’re family. I apologize to you. Don’t make a fuss. Come back to the company soon.”
Only if Xu Xu returned to the company would the shareholders continue to invest... Hah, if not for that, why would he grovel before her like this?
Xu Xu was not surprised and refused decisively, “Sorry, no deal.”
With that, Xu Xu placed the USB drive she was holding on the nearby table.
“These are the company files. I’m done. From now on, I have nothing to do with Xu Corporation.”
She then took Tan Rui’s arm, ready to leave.
Yet after only a few steps, she paused and gave Xu Yaru a half-smile, half-sneer. “By the way, remember to transfer Tan Rui’s severance pay to her account.”
“You...” Xu Yaru’s eyes reddened with fury. “Xu Xu, you’re so arrogant! I’m telling you, don’t get cocky! I’m already pregnant with Yunzhe’s child!”
Xu Xu remained expressionless and paid no mind, continuing to pull Tan Rui away.
Realizing her punches were landing on cotton, Xu Yaru grew even more enraged.
“Hey! How long do you think your glory will last? Sooner or later, I’ll be Mrs. Huo! And you, your biological father is barely hanging on in the hospital. You’re not only a country bumpkin but also a bastard with no father!”
Upon hearing the mention of her biological parents, Xu Xu’s steps faltered slightly.
Beside her, Xu Jianjun felt a strange unease in his heart...
Though not Xu Xu’s biological father, he was at least her legal adoptive father.
Hearing Xu Yaru’s words felt like a curse upon himself.
“You’ll never surpass me!” Xu Yaru said with a mix of hatred and pride.
Xu Xu found it absurd; she couldn’t understand what there was to be proud of.
She shook her head lightly and left decisively.
Once outside the Xu Corporation building, she finally came back to herself and looked at Tan Rui. “I just dragged you away so abruptly...”
“I’ve wanted to leave for a long time. Xu Yaru fired me, and I might as well take a month’s salary for free,” Tan Rui smiled. “Xu Xu, if you start your own studio, make sure to bring me along.”
“Sure, once I have a plan, I’ll talk to you.”
Tan Rui noticed Xu Xu seemed unsettled, likely because Xu Yaru had mentioned her biological parents, so she found an excuse to leave first.
Standing beneath the towering skyscrapers, Xu Xu couldn’t help but look up at the sky.
“Should I go see him...”
After all, he was her biological father.
Just as she was thinking this, a sudden shout pierced the air from a distance.
“Ah! What are you doing? It’s a robbery!”
The voice snapped Xu Xu back to reality, and she hurried toward the source.
She saw a woman who bore some resemblance to herself struggling with a man wearing a helmet over a bag.
Xu Xu was momentarily dazed but quickly sprang into action, rushing toward them.
“Let go!”
She grabbed a bag and swung it at the helmeted man.
When he refused to release it, she took off her high heel and hurled it at him.
“Ah!”
The man screamed in pain from the heel striking his hand and instinctively loosened his grip on the bag.
Xu Xu handed the bag to the middle-aged woman and gently comforted her, “Auntie, your wallet’s been retrieved. You’re... okay, right?”
Before Xu Xu could finish, the seemingly gentle woman kicked the helmeted man in the backside.
While kicking, she cursed nonstop.
“You bastard, robbing even my money! May the God of Longevity hang himself—got no respect for your life, huh?”
Xu Xu stared in disbelief, swallowing hard.
What a fierce auntie!
