Chapter Ten: Spend the Night With Me
Li Mu ignored Jiang Wan and continued walking forward.
Jiang Wan quickly caught up and grabbed his hand. Sensing the softness of her touch, Li Mu stopped and looked back at her.
"Please, Li Mu! I cannot lose my grandfather."
"He is not my grandfather; it is useless to talk to me about this."
"Come on, honey~ just help me out!" Jiang Wan stood on her tiptoes and pressed a kiss to Li Mu’s lips.
Li Mu, who had been feeling conflicted, felt his anger dissipate, though he maintained his usual roguish demeanor. "I don’t need you to call me honey. How about this... spend the night with me, and we’ll call it even. How does that sound?"
Jiang Wan’s expression shifted drastically upon hearing this; she had not expected Li Mu to suggest such a thing. To be humiliated like this—a wave of shame surged within her. Yet, for the sake of her grandfather, she did not lash out, merely nodding in silence. Seeing her crestfallen look, Li Mu offered no explanation, simply taking her by the hand and heading toward the car.
Upon returning to the mansion, Jiang Wan couldn't help but retch. Once she recovered, she looked at Li Mu with suspicion. "Have you ever flown a plane? You were driving so fast!"
Li Mu’s lips curled into a smirk. "What makes you think I haven't? I actually have several fighter jets stored in my private warehouse abroad."
Jiang Wan was speechless. Seeing that she didn't believe him, Li Mu shrugged helplessly. "Why don't you believe me? I have quite a reputation and influence overseas! Even those famous organizations have to give me face."
Jiang Wan, whether out of anger or continued disbelief, kept her head down and entered the room, completely ignoring him. Li Mu, finding his efforts unrewarded, followed her inside.
As they entered, everyone turned to look at Li Mu with strange expressions, even the venerable Dr. Li. Hai Yan’s expression was particularly sour, especially at the thought that this man was her daughter’s "fiancé." If the fiancé had been Qin Luo, their family’s status would have been elevated even further. He was far better than Li Mu.
Jiang Qing, seeing Li Mu arrive, immediately stepped forward. "Li Mu, it was our fault; we shouldn't have..."
Li Mu waved his hand, cutting him off. "I’m not here to listen to your rambling; I’m just here to treat the patient." He walked straight to the bedside.
Seeing Li Mu’s serious expression, Hai Yan let out a cold snort. "Oh, please. Can a scavenger actually practice medicine? I don't believe it!"
Li Mu frowned slightly. These people truly would not shed tears until they saw the coffin. He decided to ignore them; he just wanted to finish the treatment and leave. He began pulling out the needles that Dr. Li had inserted. After removing the last one, he exhaled and looked at the doctor with a skeptical gaze. "Your technique is so crude; you’ve only been studying for three years, haven't you?"
Dr. Li frowned, then nodded. He had indeed only been studying for three years, but how did this young man know? Before he could process it, Li Mu’s hands began to move. His fingers danced with the lightness of plucking a string. With a flick of his fingers, countless needles flew out, landing precisely into the old man's acupuncture points.
Jiang Wan’s eyes lit up as she watched; this guy actually had some real skills! Unlike her shock, Dr. Li felt a mix of admiration and skepticism. He hadn't expected the young Li Mu to possess such profound medical knowledge. It was completely unexpected. Furthermore, Li Mu’s technique was far from simple; every step targeted the most vital pressure points.
As the final needle was placed, Li Mu let out a breath and looked at the old man. "Sir, you’ve slept long enough. It’s time to wake up!"
No sooner had he spoken than the comatose man’s fingers began to twitch. The blood that had been blocked in his throat from the previous needles suddenly surged, and the old man coughed, spitting blood all over Hai Yan, who had been muttering insults under her breath. Startled, she looked down to find her face splattered with blood. Unable to stand the smell, she ran off toward the bathroom.
The others rushed forward as the old man stirred. "Grandfather, are you alright?" Jiang Wan asked, clutching his hands anxiously.
To everyone’s surprise, the old man’s gaze fell directly upon Li Mu. "Child, I have finally seen you again!"
The others were baffled. Li Mu? When had he ever met this old man?
The old man seemed to understand his confusion and offered a helpless smile. "It’s a long story. By all accounts, you haven't met me. However, I was saved by your master three years ago, and I promised to give Xiao Wan’s hand in marriage to you. Having you as a husband is a blessing for our Jiang family!"
Jiang Wan was teary-eyed upon hearing this; it turned out she had been fated to be with Li Mu all along. Compared to her emotion, the others were simply stunned. They hadn't expected this young man to be held in such high regard by the patriarch. Did the old man know something they didn't?
Li Mu waved his hand. "Sir, I am merely a loafer. How could I possibly be worthy of Miss Jiang?"
The old man laughed heartily. "How could someone I have chosen be a loafer? Besides, Mr. Li’s strength is evident. How many in this world possess such ability?"
Hearing the old man address him as "Mr. Li," the atmosphere shifted. The patriarch had been a man of stature his entire life; how could he casually call such an "impoverished" young man "Sir"?
"Wan’er, it is your honor to marry Mr. Li. I declare today that the Jiang family officially announces your marriage."
The room plunged into an icy silence. Even Jiang Wan was left in disbelief, her hands trembling. Jiang Qing couldn't help but protest, "Father, isn't this too fast? This is the first time they have met."
The old man snorted, "Too fast? I’d have you get the marriage certificate today if I could! It’s settled—the wedding will be tomorrow!"
Standing to the side, Jiang Yusheng wore a satisfied smile. He had been waiting for this moment, especially happy to see Li Mu become Jiang Wan’s husband. A loser from a pathetic background...
