Chapter Thirty-Four: You’re Quite the Connoisseur
A sudden chill surged from the top of Wu Qiming’s head down to his heels. He stole a glance at the Sect Master’s face. One look was enough to make his legs tremble so violently that he could barely stand.
The raging fury on Li Mu’s face seemed capable of reducing everything in its path to ashes. He gripped the stack of files in his hand so tightly that his knuckles turned white.
“Who exactly presided over this case?”
Wu Qiming collapsed onto his knees with a thud, his face etched with terror. “Sect Master, please calm your anger! We discovered that the captain originally in charge of your sister’s case is now the Chief Inspector of Cloud City. He is the highest-ranking police commander and has even amassed a fortune of over a hundred million!”
Li Mu’s expression grew even more ferocious as he crushed the papers in his grip. “A man like that is granted titles and status? Who gave him such power? Find out where he is right now!”
Wu Qiming pulled out his phone, dialed with shaking fingers, spoke a few words, and then hung up with a nod. “He is at the Imperial Club! Sect Master, shall I drive you there?”
Li Mu hauled Wu Qiming to his feet. “Stop kneeling at every turn. You don’t look like the richest man in Cloud City at all!”
Wu Qiming felt utterly bitter. The title of "Richest Man in Cloud City" was bestowed upon him by the Sect Master himself; how could he dare to challenge Li Mu? If the man before him decided to act, Wu Qiming wouldn’t just lose his footing in Cloud City—he wouldn’t have a place to stand in the entire nation of China.
“By the way, you still need to find a way to get the Dragon Whisker Grass. It’s fine to cooperate with some minor aristocratic families occasionally. I will discuss the Yan family matter when I return. As for the Bai family, we can give them a chance.”
Wu Qiming nodded, understanding Li Mu’s intent. He was to offer some benefits to secure the Dragon Whisker Grass, but Li Mu could not be the one to show his face, given the lingering friction between him and Bai Weiwei. As for this small favor, they could simply repay it later when the opportunity arose.
Wu Qiming reached for his car keys, intending to accompany Li Mu, but was stopped by a wave of the man’s hand. “I need to establish my own influence in Cloud City while rooting out the malignant tumors here. It’s best that my identity remains hidden for now. I will handle this myself.”
Stepping out onto the street, Li Mu hailed a taxi and arrived at the Imperial Club. The club was a gathering place for the wealthy, with security measures that were exceptionally stringent.
The bodyguards at the entrance blocked his path. “Do you have a membership card? No one enters without one!”
Li Mu didn’t even spare them a glance. With a single flick of his hand, the two guards were sent crashing to the ground.
“Quick, hit the emergency button!”
But before the guard could move, a hand clamped firmly around his throat. “You’re courting death!”
With a crisp snap, the guard lost consciousness. The other guard stood shivering. “Don’t kill me! What do you want?”
“Where is the Governor’s private room?”
The guard was so overwhelmed by the aura radiating from Li Mu that his entire body felt frozen. “The… the Governor is on the top floor!”
Li Mu patted the guard’s face, and in the next second, the man fainted. Li Mu hadn’t even laid a finger on him—why did he pass out? Li Mu shrugged helplessly and strode into the Imperial Club.
Inside a private suite, several stout, overweight men were drinking and singing, their arms wrapped around beautiful women. It was unclear whether they had been partying all night or had started their debauchery at the break of dawn, but their faces showed only excitement, not a trace of exhaustion.
As the door swung open, the men looked annoyed. “Didn’t I say not to disturb—” The man’s words were cut short as he was knocked to the floor with a single punch.
“The hell? Who are you?” The others stood up when they saw their companion struck, but before they could even get a clear look at the man, they were slapped so hard they lost their sense of direction.
“Speak. Where is your Governor?” A cold dagger pressed against the neck of one of the men, causing his body to stiffen.
“Where did a little brat like you come from, daring to track the Governor’s whereabouts… Ah!”
The fat man who had been shouting screamed as the dagger pierced through his thigh. The sight of blood agitated everyone in the room; some of the women were so terrified they lost control of their bladders. A stench of urine mixed with the metallic scent of blood filled Li Mu’s nostrils.
He looked at the women and felt a strange sense of familiarity. Was one of them Bai Weiwei’s cousin? Li Mu felt a moment of confusion. The other women also seemed to be relatives of Cloud City’s aristocratic families.
“I don’t hit women. Get out, all of you!”
To avoid being recognized, Li Mu drove the women out of the room first. Just then, suggestive, gasping sounds drifted from the suite’s bathroom. Li Mu arched a brow.
These women were indeed relatives of noble families, though why they would submit to these inspectors remained a mystery. In the bathroom, the man was licking at the tempting meal before him, and the "meal" let out sounds of pleasure.
Suddenly, the bathroom door was kicked open. The two inside were startled and scrambled to cover themselves.
“Who the hell are you?”
“Who I am doesn’t matter. What matters is that the Governor has such refined taste, finding such pleasure in a place like this!”
Li Mu stared at the pair with a wicked smirk. Looking at Li Mu, the Governor suddenly broke into a cold sweat. He had spent a fortune importing the Imperial Club’s high-end security system, which used biometric recognition and infrared sensors to identify guests and alert staff to intruders, even capable of attacking unauthorized persons. It was his pride and joy.
Yet, this man had entered his room without a trace. Seeing the chaos in the suite, he realized the man had been there for quite some time. Li Mu, however, seemed more interested in the woman behind him.
“I didn’t know the women of Cloud City’s noble houses had such hobbies. Tell me, which family are you from?”
The woman shook her head in terror. Her identity could never be revealed; if the head of her family found out, she would be ruined. “I’m not from a noble family. I’m just… just…”
Li Mu waved his hand dismissively. “I heard every word of your conversation. Not only that, I have a recording. Would you like to hear it?”
“No! Don’t! Governor, save me!”
