Chapter 51: You Actually Think You Can Hurt Me Based on That
Upon hearing these words, Liu San collapsed completely onto the ground, unable to move a single muscle.
He was entirely devoid of the arrogance he had shown when making trouble at the Li family estate.
Staring fixedly at the smartphone before him, he realized with a sinking heart that this time, he had kicked a truly immovable boulder.
A sharp, piercing pain suddenly shot through his leg.
Managing only a single, miserable wail, Liu San passed out from the excruciating agony.
When he regained consciousness, he found himself lying on the deck of a massive vessel.
Gazing out at the boundless ocean, a wave of profound despair washed over him.
"Sect Master, shall we deal with the Chen family right now?"
"There is no need for undue haste. For the present, comforting my sister and her family is of the utmost importance. Now that we know who was responsible for harming my sister back then, handling them will be easy!"
Wu Qiming gave a slight nod.
It seemed Li牧 (Li Mu) intended to settle this matter personally.
Having emerged from Wu Qiming's commercial building, Li Mu prepared to return home to check on his family.
He wanted to share this wonderful news with his sister so she would no longer have to live in daily terror.
The Li family courtyard.
Yang Suying was scrubbing laboriously at the filth that had been splattered across the front door.
She was terrified that Li Mu would see such a scene upon his return; after all, the family had only just been reunited.
Nothing must be allowed to go wrong now.
"Tingting, when your brother gets back in a moment, you must on no account tell him about this!"
Seated in her wheelchair, Li Tingting nodded with a trembling whole body.
"But Mom, what if that bad man comes back again?"
Meanwhile, inside the house, Li Chengyang stepped out into the courtyard, his face etched with bitter resentment.
"If he ever dares to set foot in our home again, I'll risk this old life of mine to—"
Suddenly, Li Mu's voice rang out from beyond the gate.
"Dad, you're getting up in years, and your health has only just improved. Whose life are you planning to risk?"
Yang Suying hurriedly cut off whatever Li Chengyang was about to say next.
With a full smile plastered across her face, she hurried over to the courtyard entrance.
"Our son is back! Your father and I were just joking around to make Tingting laugh. Who knows why this old man suddenly came out with such a muddled remark?"
As she finished speaking, she cast a reproachful glare at Li Chengyang.
A heavy frown creaked across Li Mu's brow as he caught sight of the stains marring their front gate.
"Who did this?"
"It was just something your father and I accidentally got on the door while we were out collecting scrap a couple of days ago. It's nothing, we've pretty much cleaned it all off!"
Li Mu shifted his inquiring gaze to Li Tingting.
Although tears welled in Li Tingting's eyes, she managed a nodding assent.
"That's right, it's all my fault for not being able to help Mom and Dad share the burden..."
As she spoke, fresh tears flooded her eyes.
Heartbroken at the sight of his sister, Li Mu stepped forward and gently patted her head.
"Rest assured, that bad man will never appear before you again!"
Hearing this, Yang Suying felt her legs turn to jelly; she nearly slumped to the ground.
That man had power and influence behind him; how could her own son possibly hope to contend with the likes of him?
Could it be that her son had done something reckless once more?
"Have no fear, from this day forward, I will protect this family of ours!"
"Son, you've only just managed to come back—whatever happens, you mustn't act rashly!"
"You can set your mind at ease. A couple of days ago, I tracked down the governor who handled my sister's case back then, and that person has already been dealt with by the governor!"
Everyone looked at Li Mu with skeptical expressions.
When such a tragedy had occurred years ago, not a single inspector had been willing to speak a word on their behalf. Powerless and devoid of influence, they existed at the very bottom of society.
Facing such a powerful, aristocratic clan, they had possessed not the slightest margin for resistance.
"I've earned some money today, so we won't be eating at home. I'm taking you all out for a stroll and buying you some proper clothes!"
Yang Suying immediately waved her hands in refusal upon hearing this.
"You don't have an easy time earning money either; you should save it to buy nice things for your own wife. We're old, we don't need new clothes!"
"Brother, I'm already like this—what use is it looking nice in clothes?"
Without paying the slightest heed to their protests, Li Mu herded the three of them—half-dragging, half-coaxing—toward the largest shopping mall in the city.
Gazing at the resplendent, gold-and-jade-in-lay mall, Yang Suying hesitated timidly.
Li Tingting had never set foot in such a place before, and her delicate face flushed crimson, whether from shyness or excitement she herself could not tell.
After wandering through the mall twice, they had never imagined that a single piece of clothing could command such an astronomical price!
"Son, this is no place for people like us to shop. I think the clothes at that little street stall suit your father and me just fine, why don't we—"
A look of guilt crossed Li Mu's face.
He was a dignified Sect Master in his own right, yet his parents had never even set foot in such a high-end establishment.
"Mom, Dad, just go ahead and buy what you like. Your son has money now. I'm going to use the restroom!"
With those words, he gently pushed the three of them into a luxury boutique and turned toward the washrooms.
Upon seeing the trio at the entrance, the store clerks wore expressions of utter disdain.
"Where did these stinking beggars crawl out from? Our shop doesn't give out charity—is this a place the likes of you have any business coming to?"
"Exactly, just look at the sour, stale stench radiating off you. It makes one sick to the stomach just to smell it!"
At that moment, a young woman emerged from the fitting rooms.
Draped in high-end couture evening wear, she exuded an air of extraordinary haughtiness.
The person was none other than Qiao Ruowei.
She instantly recognized the three figures at the entrance as none other than the worthless Li Mu's parents and sister.
Swishing her hips, she strolled over to where they stood.
"I was wondering why this shop reeked of poverty. Just look at what you're wearing! Isn't collecting trash enough of a disgrace for you already? How dare you even show your faces here!"
With a vicious shove, she sent Li Tingting crashing to the floor.
"Don't tell me that good-for-nothing beggar brought you here? Could all the trash you scavenge in a single month even buy a single thread of fabric in this place?"
Embarrassment washed over Yang Suying's face as she reached out to help her daughter up.
In the next instant, however, a store clerk ruthlessly shoved her down onto the floor.
"Oops, I didn't see a living breathing person standing there. I thought some stray dog had wandered into our shop to go wild!"
Yang Suying's knee slammed hard against the marble floor, a piercing jolt of agony twisting her features in pain.
"Does she look like a dog that just took a beating?"
"More than just looking like a dog—even a real dog is probably much more noble than her!"
The clerks mocked them mercilessly. Qiao Ruowei reclined on a sofa, gazing with arrogant disdain at the wretched trio near the entrance.
Seated on the cold floor, Li Tingting felt a wave of unprecedented humiliation wash over her.
One of the clerks sauntered over to her and brought the heel of her high-pumps down ruthlessly upon Li Tingting's leg.
"They say people with crippled limbs can't even feel it when they get stepped on. Well, how is it? Does this hurt?"
Yang Suying reached out in an attempt to push away that cruel foot, only for the clerk to shriek as if her tail had been stepped on.
"Old hag, don't use your filthy hands to touch my clothes! Do you have any idea how much this outfit costs? Even if you sold every single piece of junk your family owns, you wouldn't be able to afford it!"
Li Chengyang stepped resolutely in front of his wife and daughter.
"Don't push people too far!"
*Crack.*
A vicious slap landed squarely across Li Chengyang's face!
