Chapter 31: Let Him Rot Inside
Ye Hongxiao’s afternoon meeting ran on for a long time, and by the time he stepped out of the conference room, it was already quitting time. He gave Qi Zhiping the rest of the day off, then drove back to Maple Grove Villa alone.
The moment he entered, he heard his mother, Wen Han, scolding the maid. Ye Hongxiao pinched the bridge of his nose, removed his coat, and went into the study.
Inside, Ye Zhannian was practicing calligraphy with a brush. When he saw his son come in, he beckoned him over to take a look. Ye Hongxiao walked over at an easy pace and glanced at the characters.
“Powerful strokes. Beautiful work.”
...
Bai Qi was utterly sincere. If she had merely been surprised before coming here, then upon seeing the vast stretch of lush medicinal fields, she was left completely stunned.
It was clear that she wanted to get better too, but she had a strong aversion to food. She was like a picky child who refused to eat fatty meat; even when forced, she would not take a bite.
The old man smiled. “What are you saying, honored guests? Meeting one another is fate. Please, sit down and have a chat.”
The three of them took their seats, and the old man brewed tea and poured them each a cup.
“Clang!”
Two broad blades slammed into each other, sparks flying in every direction. The strength of the two men was nearly equal, but Chen Guang had the advantage in momentum—and in the confidence he had built for tonight’s takeover of the Azure Dragon Gang’s territory. Yu Qinglong, the gang’s leader, had already been killed by Xiao Yunfei, and that had given him tremendous confidence.
“Then why didn’t you continue questioning him, or take him back to the station for further interrogation?” Wei Lanying asked, even more puzzled.
Fang Jingrui knew there was something suspicious about it, but aside from sighing repeatedly, Old Master Fang said nothing.
“I’ve got plenty of boyfriends. She isn’t one of my family, so what right does she have to meddle in our affairs? This is my home. Get out!” Liu Qing’s stepfather declared indignantly.
“All right, you cheeky monkey. You’ll learn what makes Meng’er extraordinary in time. We’re about to enter the battlefield—are you coming with us?”
Seeing the displeasure on Lin Yumei’s face, the Snow King hurriedly changed the subject.
Just then, two more blades came slashing out. Tang Feng slid away from the attack with the Eight Trigrams Step, and the two ninjas vanished. But in the next instant, another blade sprang up exactly where he was about to land.
He took out Golden Hun and unleashed a Flame Blade. The ore overhead trembled incessantly, startling Mo Fan. He could not use brute force here; if the underground river collapsed, it would cause trouble. Though the falling rocks might not kill Mo Fan, he had no desire to destroy the place.
He lowered his head and looked down at her. His tall figure cast a shadow over her, bringing with it an overwhelming sense of oppression.
“Big brother? Cen Yifan?” Hua Ziwan raised an eyebrow and gave a cold, sinister laugh, as though seeking one final confirmation from Zhao Jin.
When Fu Ruyan saw Su Lingyu smile, a smile unconsciously spread across his own face as well. Unable to resist, he reached out and gently rubbed her head.
Bai Ruoyou had been reluctant to see Nangong Yi leave, never imagining that he would take her back with him.
Li Yusheng let out a sigh and decided to pull himself together first, then look up some of his old friends from the business world.
Only on the days she had arranged to meet Huang Jianfeng would she ask the plants for help. Whenever they went out together that evening, they always returned with a bountiful harvest.
Having heard this, the shifty-eyed Third Brother finally turned and left, presumably to look for Jian Jing.
No one said another word. Everyone was waiting for the moment of the final showdown. When masters crossed hands, this was the moment that mattered.
He Wei hurried to the passenger side, opened the door, and climbed in. Nie Jingchen turned the car around and sped toward the school gates.
Sure enough, after she finished speaking, Tang Kaixiao froze for a moment. His pupils suddenly widened, and his eyes filled with profound darkness, as though some terrible storm were about to descend.
If others wanted him dead, why shouldn’t he do everything he could to protect himself? Tian Buqi had been crippled, yet now Mi Yeduo was supposed to come forward and demand support payments?
“I don’t know you at all. Why would I meet you?” The moment she saw him, she was reminded of how she had humiliated herself in front of everyone, and her resentment burned fiercely inside her.
