Bai Zhi’s expression stiffened sharply. With a wave of her hand through the air, she delivered a fierce slap across Cheng Yang’s cheek.

“Cheng Yang, how dare you!”

To speak to her in such a manner was truly outrageous.

Cheng Yang pressed his tongue against his numb cheek, anger flaring. As he opened his mouth to retort, Xu Lingchuan, standing beside him, coldly restrained him.

“Fifth junior brother, how can you speak to the mistress of the sect like that?”

“Mistress of the sect? Since when has there been such a calamity who harms her own sect?”

“Even if the mistress is at fault, you cannot speak to her this way as her disciple,” Xu Lingchuan admonished.

Lin Caibing spoke gently, “Fifth senior brother, when this happened, the mistress was not present. She had no idea such a thing would occur.”

“Mistress, please hurry and apologize to Master. He... is very angry,” Zhou Yan softly urged, though his gaze shifted to Chen Qingdaoren standing behind her, his expression darkening.

Fuming, Fu Ming crossed his arms and swaggered forward. “Young master, please, after you.”

Bai Zhi stepped forward, glaring coldly at them. “Step back!”

Chen Qing’s face remained calm, yet his eyes were unfathomable.

Silently standing beside Bai Zhi, handsome and refined, they appeared like a perfect pair.

This scene stabbed sharply at Yuan Lingqing’s eyes, who had just arrived.

“Bai Zhi...” Yuan Lingqing ground his teeth in rage. “Come here at once!”

Chen Qing’s expression was serene, unflinching as he met Yuan Lingqing’s gaze. “How did the Cloudclear Sect come to this?”

“Who are you? I advise you not to meddle,” Yuan Lingqing snapped.

Bai Zhi sneered coldly. “Yuan Lingqing, I advise you not to provoke him—you cannot bear the consequences!”

These words enraged Cheng Yang, who balled his fist and charged at Chen Qing.

Truly brainless!

“Smack!”

Bai Zhi’s slap landed hard on his face once again.

“Bai Zhi! Don’t overstep! If it weren’t for you, would the Cloudclear Sect have been destroyed?” Yuan Lingqing glared furiously, stepping up and grabbing her wrist with such force it seemed he might crush it.

“Because of me?” Bai Zhi winced in pain, suddenly breaking free and glaring at him with fury.

“Didn’t you say that the young lord of the demon clan was your disciple?” Yuan Lingqing’s eyes were bloodshot. “He came to find you, and when he couldn’t, he went mad and destroyed so much of the sect!”

It was Jiu Ze?

This was something Bai Zhi truly hadn’t expected.

She shrank back slightly. How furious must he have been to wreak such havoc here?

Jiu Ze’s cultivation was not high, but when he went berserk, even Yuan Lingqing dared not harm him.

After all, he was the young lord of the demon clan. If he were truly injured, the demon clan would surely not take their small Cloudclear Sect seriously.

Therefore, they could only endure quietly and let him vent.

Hearing this, Bai Zhi felt an inexplicable sense of satisfaction.

“Mistress, taking in a disciple from the demon clan already goes against reason. Now that he has destroyed so many buildings, if you provide the funds, we will help rebuild.”

“This way, it’s just a wayward disciple. You can teach him properly from now on, and Master will not blame you, right?” Lin Caibing’s voice was soft and reasonable, yet every word implicitly accused Bai Zhi of poor judgment in taking disciples, inadequate teaching, and most importantly, demanded compensation.

Bai Zhi raised an eyebrow, withholding any reply.

Her nonchalance further infuriated Yuan Lingqing, but in front of the disciples, he struggled to suppress his irritation.

“Bai Zhi, come with me. We need to talk privately.”

“Fine. My disciple made a mistake, so naturally I must compensate. But before that, there is something more important.”

“What?”

“A divorce.”

At those two words, Yuan Lingqing’s expression froze for a moment. His gaze turned away with complexity.

“Has the Master not given you the token yet?”

Bai Zhi shook her head. Yuan Lingqing felt inexplicably relieved.

“Then why rush to talk about divorce? Come with me to the main hall.”

They entered the main hall. Yuan Lingqing turned and noticed the young man beside Bai Zhi had followed them, his brow furrowing deeply.

“Sir, please leave.”

Bai Zhi chuckled secretly. This fellow didn’t even recognize his own Master.

She once again admired Chen Qingdaoren’s disguise skills, which had evidently reached a new level.

“I am here today with Zhi’er to handle this matter,” Chen Qing spoke. His voice was clear and youthful, yet carried an ominous tone.

“Zhi’er? Calling her so intimately...” Yuan Lingqing’s eyes glimmered with a trace of bitterness as he scrutinized them. “What... is your relationship?”

Bai Zhi was about to speak when Chen Qing placed a hand on her shoulder, signaling her to remain silent.

“I am an old acquaintance of Zhi’er’s. Sect Master Yuan, would you be willing to divorce Zhi’er?”

“Hmph, as soon as I get the marriage token, I will divorce this fickle woman to accommodate you!” he snarled viciously, his loathing for Bai Zhi plain and unreserved.

Perhaps, in his heart, this was truly his sentiment.

He had just taken in the young lord of the demon clan as a disciple, and now had a handsome youth by his side—if not fickle, then what else?

Many years together, yet not even this much trust.

Bai Zhi felt a pang of sorrow but quickly suppressed it.

“However, I warn you, if you want to be with her, be prepared—this woman is ruthlessly heartless.”

Yuan Lingqing sneered at Chen Qing with a gloating challenge in his eyes.

Chen Qing’s brow furrowed faintly.

Having traveled the mortal world for many years, he had witnessed countless sorrows and partings; he could tell at a glance that Yuan Lingqing’s anger stemmed from this matter.

To be angry meant he still cared. But looking down at Bai Zhi’s indifferent, unmoved expression, Chen Qing’s heart sank.

This was truly someone who had let go...

“I can swear by the Way of Heaven that Zhi’er and I share no such relationship or feelings.”

Chen Qing’s voice was calm, imbued with a clarity that sobered the listener.

Bai Zhi knew this was her Master’s final test.

Yet Yuan Lingqing only paused briefly before folding his arms and sneering.

He did not believe Bai Zhi would truly divorce him; after all, having grown up together, he knew her too well.

“Divorce invokes three heavenly thunders. I’d rather be struck by lightning than have any connection with her.”

His aloof, unconcerned demeanor was a show for Bai Zhi, watching her expression intently. Yet he failed to notice the disappointment in Chen Qing’s gaze.

“Master, Caibing has something to say. May I come in?” suddenly came Lin Caibing’s gentle voice from outside.

“Come in.”

Lin Caibing stepped forward, worry etched across her face as she clung affectionately to Yuan Lingqing’s arm.

“Master, sorry. I overheard you say just now that divorce brings three heavenly thunders?”

“Yes. What of it?” Yuan Lingqing’s expression softened at Caibing’s coquettish hold.

“Heavenly thunder harms the body... and you cannot divorce the mistress of the sect.”

“Why not?”

Lin Caibing whispered something intimately into Yuan Lingqing’s ear. His gaze then shifted to Bai Zhi, his expression changing several times.

Bai Zhi could not hear what was said. She looked up at Chen Qing, who, though expressionless, grew more profound in his gaze, studying Lin Caibing silently.

When they finished speaking, Yuan Lingqing nodded.

“Fine. Young master, since you have no relation to Bai Zhi, I have wronged her. I will not divorce her.”
