“What did you say?”

Jiang Runlang flew into a rage. “What the hell are you people good for?”

“Brother Lang, we never expected anything like this to happen. We were just about to move her when a group of people suddenly rushed out and knocked our men unconscious. By the time we realized what was happening, they had already taken her away.”

Jiang Runlang was so furious that his chest began to ache.

“What are you waiting for? Go after them!” he roared.

“Brother Lang, it’s not that we didn’t chase them. They left in a helicopter. We lost them.”

Jiang Runlang laughed in anger.

Clutching his battered, throbbing chest, he could do nothing but rage helplessly. “Then what use are you?”

He hung up the phone in exasperation and gnashed out Shen Suining’s name.

“Shen! Sui! Ning!”

What kind of powerful connections had she made to wield such influence in Ningcheng?

He had to investigate.

He had to find out everything.

Ignoring the pain, Jiang Runlang mobilized every resource at his disposal to trace the helicopter’s whereabouts.

He had thought it would be easy. Ningcheng was not a particularly large place, and locating where a helicopter had just flown should have been a simple matter.

Yet the information he received was that, for some unknown reason, the helicopter had suddenly vanished—as though it had never appeared at all.

This only made Jiang Runlang angrier. Without even treating his injuries, he stormed home.

Jiang Cheng took Shen Suining to the Bai family’s private hospital.

Not long before, Jiang Cheng’s men had found Shen Suining’s grandmother and brought her to the Bai family’s private hospital.

Only after confirming that her grandmother was merely unconscious and had suffered no serious harm did Shen Suining finally let out a breath of relief.

When she stepped out of the ward, Shen Suining caught Jiang Cheng by the sleeve and looked at him anxiously. Almost pleadingly, she said, “Could I ask you to move my grandmother to another hospital?”

She simply could not feel safe here.

Although the Bai family’s private hospital had no investment from the Jiang family, the Bai family’s youngest son had an excellent relationship with Jiang Runlang. There was no guarantee that he would not tell Jiang Runlang that her grandmother was here.

She could not endure having her grandmother hidden away from her a second time.

If anything happened to her grandmother, Shen Suining probably would not survive it.

Jiang Cheng gently stroked the crown of Shen Suining’s head and said, “Don’t worry, Suisui. No one will come here.”

It was not that Shen Suining did not trust Jiang Cheng. She was simply too uneasy.

Jiang Cheng did not conceal the truth from her. He said directly, “I invested in this hospital. The Bai family’s boy has no real say in the family. He wouldn’t dare do anything they forbade him to do.”

Shen Suining met Jiang Cheng’s gaze doubtfully. Only when she saw the certainty in his eyes did she choose to trust him.

“Thank you, Jiang Cheng,” she said.

Jiang Cheng pinched her cheek lightly. “You don’t have to thank me, Suisui.”

In truth, he did not particularly like hearing her say “thank you” all the time. It made him feel that they could never truly grow close.

That was not what he wanted.

Shen Suining understood what he meant, but she was in no state of mind to respond to it.

Seeing her resistance, Jiang Cheng did not pressure her. Instead, he changed the subject.

“Suisui, I’d like to discuss something with you.”

“What is it?” Shen Suining asked.

“Your grandmother’s illness isn’t incurable. I’ve assembled a leading medical team overseas. If you trust me, we can send your grandmother abroad for treatment,” Jiang Cheng said.

Shen Suining was stunned for a moment, and a glimmer of hope rose in her eyes.

If her grandmother could be cured, she would agree without hesitation.

More than anything, she wanted her grandmother to recover.

But after the initial excitement faded, Shen Suining grew hesitant.

She looked at Jiang Cheng, conflicted, and after a long while said, “But I don’t feel comfortable sending Grandma abroad.”

Unless she went with her.

“Then let them come to Ningcheng,” Jiang Cheng said.

Shen Suining immediately seized his hand. “Can they?”

“They can, but I promised them they would finish treating their patients overseas before coming here. We’ll have to wait at least a month.”

That was precisely why Jiang Cheng had wanted to send her grandmother abroad for treatment.

Hearing this, Shen Suining became even more torn.

She truly could not make up her mind.

Waiting a month meant that her grandmother would have to suffer for another month.

Besides, no one could say how the illness would progress. If her grandmother’s condition worsened during that month, Shen Suining would surely regret it.

Yet she truly could not bear to send her grandmother abroad.

Jiang Cheng gently stroked the back of her head and comforted her. “Don’t rush, Suisui. Take your time deciding. You can also ask your grandmother what she thinks after she wakes up.”

Shen Suining nodded, then said “thank you” to Jiang Cheng once again.

No matter what, Jiang Cheng had already done far too much for her.

Her gratitude came from the bottom of her heart.

Jiang Cheng could only sigh helplessly and let her be.

He drew Shen Suining gently into his arms and asked in a soft voice, “There are doctors and nurses watching over her here. Why don’t we go home first?”

She needed to rest properly, too.

But Shen Suining shook her head. “I want to stay here with Grandma.”

When her grandmother had been at the hospital owned by the Jiang family, even visiting her had been restricted. Pei Min was always threatening her with the medication her grandmother needed. If Shen Suining refused to comply with their demands, he would immediately stop giving her grandmother the medicine.

With no other choice, Shen Suining had been forced to compromise again and again.

Now that she had finally managed to move her grandmother to another hospital—and, judging from what Jiang Cheng had said, the Jiang family would not be able to find them for the time being—she wanted to spend some time with her grandmother.

Jiang Cheng had no objections.

He put an arm around Shen Suining’s shoulders and said, “All right. Then I’ll stay with you.”

Shen Suining wanted to refuse. Jiang Cheng had already done more than enough for her, and she did not want to keep burdening him.

But when she met his eyes, the words at the tip of her tongue ultimately went unspoken.

The ward was equipped with a sitting room and a lounge. Jiang Cheng took Shen Suining’s hand and led her into the lounge.

“It’s getting late, Suisui. Get some sleep here first.”

Jiang Cheng guided Shen Suining onto the bed, then crouched down to remove her shoes.

A trace of awkwardness spread across Shen Suining’s face. She drew her foot back, but did not pull away.

Jiang Cheng held her ankle and slipped off her shoe.
