Chapter 39: Just a Male Homewrecker

Ye Yanze was clearly startled by the man’s voice that had suddenly cut in.

After a long moment, he asked in a grave tone, "Sir, may I ask who you said you were to Suisui?"

Jiang Ji draped an arm over Shen Suining’s shoulder and replied, "Allow me to introduce myself. I am Shen Suining’s boyfriend, and I am also the father of her son."

A sharp intake of breath was clearly audible from Ye Yanze’s end of the line.

After a pause, Ye Yanze spoke with even greater severity, "Sir, please do not joke. Suisui is currently in the critical stages of a divorce. Do you have any idea how much trouble this statement could cause her!"

Jiang Ji said, "I am not joking. I am simply stating a fact to you, Counselor Ye. However, you can rest assured that before Suibao finalizes her divorce, I will ensure that neither I nor the child we share is exposed."

Ye Yanze was so infuriated by Jiang Ji’s words that he almost laughed. Did he really think that just because he said it wouldn't be exposed, it wouldn't be? Where did he get such confidence?

Not wanting to waste words on this inexplicable man, Ye Yanze snapped, "Please give the phone back to Suisui!" He had no patience for further drivel.

As if he hadn't been infuriating enough, Jiang Ji said to Ye Yanze, "No need. Suibao is right beside me; you can speak directly."

Ye Yanze took a deep, heavy breath before asking Shen Suining, "Suisui, is everything he just said true?"

Shen Suining had not expected Jiang Ji to act so abruptly. She apologized to Ye Yanze, "I'm sorry, Brother Ye. This matter is a bit complicated. Even at the law firm, I was still trying to process it myself, so I didn't tell you."

Ye Yanze’s tone softened significantly toward her.

"Suisui, you don't need to apologize to me," he said. "You only need to tell me: do you really have another boyfriend, and do you truly have a son together?"

This was simply too absurd!

Shen Suining didn't know how to answer Ye Yanze’s question. After a long silence, she finally said to him, "We do indeed have a son."

Ye Yanze was silent for a long time before saying with a sigh of resignation, "Suisui, how could you not have told me about something so important earlier!"

Shen Suining felt even more guilty; her long eyelashes lowered, casting a shadow across her face. "I am truly sorry, Brother Ye."

Jiang Ji could not bear to see Shen Suining like this. He said coldly to Ye Yanze, "What? Is this the extent of a top lawyer's professional capability? A minor surprise is enough to make you lose your composure? If so, I don't think much of your competence, Counselor."

He repeated the title "Counselor Ye" with biting sarcasm.

Shen Suining didn't understand why Jiang Ji held such hostility toward Ye Yanze. She poked his arm, signaling him to stop. But since Jiang Ji was doing this on purpose, he wouldn't stop.

"Counselor Ye," Jiang Ji continued, "if you aren't up to the task, don't make grand promises. Don't end up making Suibao pay the price for your incompetence."

Ye Yanze had never been targeted like this before. He gritted his teeth and said, "Sir, do I need to remind you? Right now, you are nothing but a man in the shadows—a third party! You are the one bringing trouble to Suisui!"

Jiang Ji retorted, "That is not something Counselor Ye needs to worry about. I have already said that I can guarantee that neither I nor the son I share with Suibao will be exposed. I will not bring any trouble to her."

Besides, even if it were exposed, what of it? Would Jiang Runlang dare to come after him, or would the Jiang family dare to cross him? By then, they would likely be too busy dealing with their own ruin to care!

Ye Yanze was nearly driven to laughter by his audacity. "Sir, you truly embody the saying: 'You are so ordinary, yet so confident!'"

Hearing this, Shen Suining, who had been feeling helpless, inexplicably burst into a smile. She wasn't laughing at Ye Yanze’s sharp tongue, but rather wondering if he would regret those words once he discovered Jiang Ji’s true identity.

After a moment of thought, Shen Suining leaned toward the phone and said to Ye Yanze, "Brother Ye, please just act as if you know nothing about this. I will be careful; I won't let anyone find out."

The fact that she and Jiang Ji had a son was an objective reality. Even if she hadn't been aware of it during the marriage, it would indeed become a complication. The best way forward was to pretend it didn't exist and wait until the divorce was finalized. Of course, Shen Suining’s confidence was rooted in her trust in Jiang Ji. She believed that if he said he could keep his and Jiang Yinuo’s identities hidden, he would do exactly that.

Ye Yanze was clearly stunned by her words. "Suisui, you trust him that much?"

Shen Suining glanced at Jiang Ji, meeting his gaze as he stared intently at her face. She knew he was waiting for her affirmation. Without hesitation, she said to Ye Yanze, "Yes, Brother Ye. I trust him."

Ye Yanze remained silent for several seconds before asking, "Suisui, may I ask who he is?"

Shen Suining declined. "I'm sorry, Brother Ye, it’s not convenient to tell you for now."

Although she had told Ye Pianpian, that was only because she hadn't understood why Jiang Ji had returned to Ning City. After learning about it from Ye Pianpian, it was actually Ye Pianpian who had warned her to keep it a secret. After all, Jiang Ji had come for revenge, and she could not afford to disrupt his plans.
