Chapter 8: Forcing Mu Chenbei to Sleep on the Street

Ling Yu silently agreed—wasn’t there a ghost after all? Chu Ming grew more animated as she spoke, passionately imparting her wisdom to Ling Yu with a tone of frustration, “Men are like that; even if you hang them on the wall, they won’t behave. The heart must be free of men for one to draw the sword naturally and with divine skill.”
“Besides, I think that Mu Chenbei isn’t a good man. He’s only after your money. When he was down and out, you went out of your way to help him. Now you’re the one struggling, and where is he? Not a trace.”
Chu Ming rolled her eyes, annoyed just thinking about that scoundrel.
Ling Yu remained silent, then weakly said, “I understand. I’ll think carefully about this relationship.”
Hearing this, Chu Ming’s eyes lit up.
Hey, looks like there might be hope!
She gave Ling Yu a skeptical once-over, her gaze traveling up and down as if inspecting her carefully.
No replacement, huh? Could it be… possession?
Ling Yu felt uneasy under that strange look and recoiled slightly. “Why are you looking at me like that?”
Chu Ming stroked her chin with a meaningful look. “I’m wondering if you’ve been possessed.”
Ling Yu snapped back irritably, “I think you’re the one possessed—talking nonsense.”
Clearly, the young girl had grown comfortable around her, no longer speaking so cautiously.
Indeed, talking about love was the best way for two women to grow closer.
Suddenly, Chu Ming’s expression turned sincere. Speaking with a formal tone, she said, “Sis, I need to apologize to you!”
“Apologize? For what?”
Ling Yu was caught off guard by her random statement, looking at her in confusion.
But intuition told her Chu Ming was about to say something less than flattering.
Squinting deliberately and wearing a probing expression, she asked, “Did you do something to betray me?”
Chu Ming hurriedly waved her hand. “No, sis, my heart is as clear as the sky and as bright as the sun and moon.”
Then, clasping her hands over her heart in a dramatic pose, she said earnestly, “Sis, I used to think you were a hopeless romantic, but you’re not. I misunderstood you, and I apologize.”
Ling Yu was speechless.
She didn’t know what to say, so she just gave Chu Ming a look that said “it’s complicated,” her feelings mixed.
After a moment, she forced out, “Maybe you shouldn’t apologize. I’ll apologize to you instead.”
This time, Chu Ming looked puzzled. “Sis, why would you apologize to me?”
“Did you… deduct my salary?”
Ling Yu rolled her eyes and said coolly, “I shouldn’t have hired you and let you hang around a hopeless romantic like me. I apologize.”
“Better yet, just quit tomorrow. I approve.”

“No, sis,” Chu Ming quickly sensed the subtext and hurriedly hooked her arm around Ling Yu’s, leaning in and nuzzling her affectionately. “Sis, no way! You’re the wisest and best to me…”
While saying this, she sneaked a glance at Ling Yu’s reaction.
Seeing the faint smile on her face, she finally relaxed and contentedly snuggled closer.
Mmm… must say, Ling Yu smelled really nice.
A fragrant, soft beauty—hee hee~
Chu Ming lowered her head, a sly smile creeping onto her face.
Ling Yu wasn’t even mad; it was just a joke.
After some playful banter with Chu Ming, her mood lifted considerably.
Chu Ming didn’t make a fuss and allowed herself to lean on Ling Yu, gloomily watching the trees blur past outside the car window.
Everyone could see Mu Chenbei was no good—except her? And she still foolishly stuck around and got deceived.
She really wanted to knock open her own head and see what was inside.
Sighing, she reconsidered; maybe it wasn’t entirely her fault.
As a tragic heroine with a prearranged fate, what choice did she have?
But...
Suddenly thinking of something, Ling Yu puffed out her cheeks, feeling a sting of pain.
The house—paid in full and renovated—was no cheap investment, and now it had been ruined by that scumbag.
There was no way she’d keep it; better to sell it quickly.
With this thought, she turned to Chu Ming and casually asked, “Xiao Ming, do you know anything about the housing prices in Linhe?”
“Housing prices?” Chu Ming looked up, and Ling Yu watched her expectantly.
“No, I don’t.”
She lowered her head again and rested against Ling Yu’s arm, closing her eyes.
Ling Yu: “...”
How frustrating.
In a huff, she pulled her arm away.
Chu Ming’s eyes snapped open, confused as she stared at Ling Yu.
“Hmph, no more leaning on you.”
Ling Yu said huffily, lifting her chin and turning away.
“Oh, sis, I was wrong.”

Chu Ming snapped back to reality and immediately softened her voice, pouting and begging for forgiveness.
Although, honestly, she wasn’t sure what she had done wrong.
“Sis, I really don’t understand. Besides, I’m not even worthy of understanding—Linhe’s housing prices are way too expensive. Someone like me, just a worker, can only dream of it.”
Her pitiful tone made sense.
Ling Yu was about to comfort her, still gathering her words, when suddenly—
“Miss Yu, are you looking to buy a house? I’ve been studying Linhe’s housing prices recently and know a bit.”
Ling Yu’s eyes lit up—she had found a savior!
She explained, “I’m not buying; I’m selling. I have a place in Springview Garden that’s empty, and I want to sell it.”
“Springview Garden? That’s a great location.”
The driver, Xiao Zhang, perked up, eagerly offering analysis. “Springview Garden is one of Linhe’s famous upscale communities. I heard the landscaping is excellent. The transport is convenient, and it’s close to schools. Housing there is scarce; some people want to buy but can’t.”
Ling Yu wholeheartedly agreed. If it weren’t for those two scumbags, she wouldn’t want to sell such a wonderful property.
But none of that was her main concern.
Her biggest concern was money.
“Miss Yu, housing prices have risen recently. It’s a good time to sell. My brother works as a real estate agent. Want me to have him take a look for you?”
Just as one is about to doze off and someone brings a pillow, Ling Yu suppressed her excitement and asked cautiously, “May I?”
Xiao Zhang laughed heartily. “Of course. Once we park, I’ll send you his contact info.”
“Thank you so much! When the house sells, I’ll treat you to a big meal.”
“Miss Yu, you’re too kind.”
Ling Yu said no more, silently opening her phone to pick a restaurant.
Having someone familiar to help was truly a blessing. She knew Mu Chenbei’s true nature well; once he found out she was selling the house, he’d surely pester her endlessly.
Leaving it to a professional was different—they had more experience dealing with such scoundrels.
Turning her head, Ling Yu met a pair of eyes shining with surprise.
“Sis, didn’t you lend that house to your boyfriend temporarily?”
Ling Yu’s face turned cold, expression blank. “I don’t want him living there anymore. I’m broke.”
That scumbag wants to live in my house?
Let him sleep on the street.
