Chapter 108: The Arrow Is on the String
Zhong Xingnan let out a contemptuous snort, his face full of disgust.
“You filthy nobody, you’re not even qualified to polish my shoes. Crushing you is as easy as crushing a fly. What are you trying to pretend to be in front of me?”
“Even if I did bully her, what can you do to me? Nothing. You overestimate yourself, you country bumpkin.”
His mouth curled with arrogant disdain.
In Su City, he was a man of enormous influence. Some nameless nobody actually dared to challenge him.
He was simply courting death.
“I’ll make you regret what you did today,” Lin Fan said with a light snort, then took Zhang Yi by the arm and entered the hotel.
Seeing how completely Lin Fan ignored him, Zhong Xingnan’s anger flared.
“Damn it! You dare threaten me? I’ll show you just how formidable I am, and teach you that there’s always a bigger mountain beyond the mountain and a stronger man beyond the man!”
He had been born with a silver spoon in his mouth. Everyone around him had always treated him with utmost respect. No one had ever dared threaten him to his face. Lin Fan was the first.
Even if this was not Su City, he could still make Lin Fan suffer.
After returning to the hotel and changing clothes, Zhang Yi followed Lin Fan to another hotel: Atlantis.
This hotel was the only seven-star hotel in Yazhou. Even the cheapest room started at over ten thousand a night, and nearly all the guests were wealthy people.
When the two arrived, a gold-medal concierge had already been waiting.
The concierge led them to the presidential suite on the top floor. A night here cost one hundred thousand.
“Mr. Lin, this suite was prepared specially for you. If you need anything, feel free to call me at any time.”
The attendant pointed to the landline on the table, then excused himself and left.
“You booked the hotel this quickly?” Zhang Yi was surprised.
The number of presidential suites here was limited; even money alone could not guarantee a booking.
“It was booked by Young Master Wang. His connections are broader than I expected,” Lin Fan replied casually.
They had already arrived in Yazhou twenty minutes earlier, and Wang Silai had arranged everything in advance. That was why, as soon as Lin Fan got off the plane, he went straight by private car to the location Zhang Yi had sent.
“Young Master Wang?”
Zhang Yi cried out in shock. She had not expected Lin Fan to truly know Wang Silai.
Lin Fan gave no further explanation; he was only concerned about her condition.
“How did Zhong Xingnan bully you? You don’t seem right now. You’re limp all over. Did he drug you?”
Lin Fan’s face darkened. His expression was stern.
Earlier, in the wealthy benefactors’ chat group, he had already heard people say that Zhong Xingnan would not even spare minors, and that he used despicable means to torment the women he deceived.
Utter scum.
“Luckily you came in time, Lin Fan. Thank you, really. I should have listened to you and not gone running off with Tang Guo. Sigh…”
Zhang Yi froze for a moment, first thanking Lin Fan, then changing the subject.
“Zhong Xingnan’s family background is deep too. If you offend him, there’ll definitely be no good end. Let it go.”
She wanted to persuade Lin Fan to swallow his anger.
Otherwise, with Zhong Xingnan’s temper, he would surely make Lin Fan’s life miserable.
“This cannot be let go. What if I hadn’t come, or had come a little later? Wouldn’t you have been ruined by that bastard? He’s the classic gentlemanly scoundrel. I’ve long heard rumors about him.”
As he spoke, Lin Fan repeated the gossip he had seen in the group.
Zhang Yi listened and grew even more afraid.
“Then Tang Guo could be…”
She did not dare think further, but it was obvious that her once-close best friend had had her values twisted. Zhong Xingnan must have been behind it.
“From the start I told you she was being manipulated, that she was no longer the Tang Guo we used to know. Once you step into the circle of second-generation rich kids, it can completely overturn everything you thought you knew.”
“Anyway, I’m definitely going to make him pay. If he dares come after me, I won’t mind smashing him back to his original shape. That sort of scum belongs in prison, where he can be properly reformed.”
Lin Fan said with righteous conviction.
Seeing this, Zhang Yi, both aggrieved and moved, threw herself into his arms.
“Waaah, Lin Fan, you’re so good to me. I really shouldn’t have been so willful. From now on, I’ll listen to you properly.”
Only then did she dare cry.
She had never imagined that the best friend she trusted would betray her. If Lin Fan had not been so experienced, she might already have ended up as Zhong Xingnan’s plaything.
“Don’t cry. Since you’re my woman, I’ll protect you. I’ll never let you suffer even the slightest grievance.”
Lin Fan comforted her softly.
Zhang Yi nestled in his arms like a spoiled kitten. After feeling his affection, her heart began to pound for no reason at all.
Lin Fan also noticed that her favorability toward him had surged from seventy to ninety.
Only ten points remained before the task was complete.
At that thought, Lin Fan could no longer hold himself back. He wrapped his arms around her slender waist and looked at her with tender, smoldering affection.
“Zhang Yi, I love you. Be my woman.”
“I love you too.”
Zhang Yi answered with feeling, gazing back at him with equal tenderness.
Their hearts were finally open to each other. As their emotions deepened, they soon embraced and kissed.
Then she felt something unusual below her abdomen and immediately understood what Lin Fan wanted.
Lin Fan’s large hand also wandered unconsciously to her curves, but Zhang Yi suddenly pushed him away again.
“I want to…”
Lin Fan was breathing hard, passion surging through him as he looked at her.
Of course Zhang Yi understood what he meant. She struggled to restrain the desire in her heart and said, her expression complicated, “I want to wait until we’re married. Is that okay?”
“Why?” Lin Fan did not understand. Their relationship had already gone beyond that of lovers; they were practically only one step away from registering their marriage.
“I’m afraid that once you get it, you won’t cherish it anymore. I want to keep something so precious for that day, so it will truly feel priceless.”
Biting her lip, her cheeks burning red, she spoke so softly it was almost a whisper.
Lin Fan was stunned. The fire that had just risen within him immediately died down.
He had thought Zhang Yi would refuse him. Instead, she wanted to save the most precious thing for their wedding day.
Perhaps she was worried that once she gave herself to him, she would no longer be able to keep her heart in check.
After all, he was now rich beyond measure, owned a livestreaming company, and was surrounded by beautiful women. Zhang Yi was afraid that one day he might meet a woman even better than her, and if Lin Fan’s heart changed, then she would lose both her body and her heart.
This was not her deliberately stringing him along. She simply wanted Lin Fan not to become the sort of playboy who, once rich, did nothing but pursue pleasure and dissipation.
To keep his original heart and still achieve greatness.
“But the arrow is already on the string, and there’s no choice but to fire…” Lin Fan looked at her with eager eyes and said, unable to restrain himself.
“I… you bad man, I can help you in another way.”
Zhang Yi did not want to pour cold water on Lin Fan. If she refused and made him unhappy, what if he neglected her?
After hesitating for a few seconds, she turned and walked toward the bathroom, tossing him a seductive glance.
Lin Fan grinned and obediently trotted after her.
Half past eleven in the morning.
When Zhang Yi woke, she did not see Lin Fan in the presidential suite.
They had not slept in the same bed; they had slept separately.
In truth, she had long since made up her mind. If Lin Fan truly wanted her, she would never refuse.
What warmed her heart was that Lin Fan had respected her completely, and had even agreed to wait until the end for the most precious thing of all.
