Just as Zhu Ruoxue thought Lin Fan was about to be beaten badly, a scream rang out from where Lin Fan and Chen Wei stood.

Don’t misunderstand, the sound didn’t come from Lin Fan.

Lin Fan stood exactly where he was, not even moving from his spot. With just a single punch, he brought Chen Wei to his knees, bowing before him as if paying respects for the New Year.

Watching Chen Wei groan in pain on the ground, Lin Fan felt a mix of surprise and satisfaction. He suppressed his laughter and pretended to be astonished, saying, “Oh, Chen Wei, what’s this? Even if you want to thank me for helping you solve the problem of the bride price, you don’t need to be so ceremonious!”

“Damn it, Lin Fan, don’t get cocky. I just didn’t use my full strength!” Chen Wei spat.

Lin Fan replied with a cold laugh. How could he, who nearly got beaten, not know if Chen Wei had used his full strength or not?

But…

Thinking of his newfound combat prowess, Lin Fan couldn’t help but marvel at the system. True to its name, everything he purchased—except for the un-upgradable Taekwondo—was at least beginner level, including Tai Chi and Wing Chun.

With his martial arts skills still at the basic level, he managed to make the boxer Chen Wei bow with a single punch. The system’s power was undeniable!

The more he thought about it, the more Lin Fan appreciated the system embedded within him.

Meanwhile, Zhu Ruoxue, seeing the person kneeling on the ground was her fiancé Chen Wei, felt an inexplicable sense of relief.

She hurried over to Lin Fan, anxiously checking him from head to toe. “Lin Fan, are you alright? Did you get hurt?”

“Don’t worry, I’m not hurt at all. I suppose my future brother-in-law was just going easy on me,” Lin Fan said with a half-smile, glancing at Chen Wei, who struggled to get up and spat out several mouthfuls of blood. He feigned concern, “Wei, are you alright? Want to go home and have your mother take a look at you?”

“Lin Fan, stop being so damn smug!” Chen Wei snapped, spitting more blood. He licked his loose teeth, feeling even more frustrated.

He wanted to have another go at Lin Fan, but feared he was only serving himself up for another beating, so he turned his anger towards Zhu Ruoxue instead.

“Zhu Ruoxue, are you my girlfriend or his? Your fiancé is coughing up blood and you don’t even care?”

“Enough!” Zhu Ruoxue’s voice was icy cold, a stark contrast to the gentle affection she showed Lin Fan. “Chen Wei, you’re no longer my fiancé. I’ve never seen a man who expects his bride price to be paid by his sister’s ex-boyfriend. Your whole family leeches off Lin Fan and seem to enjoy it!

Since neither the bride price nor the car comes from you, and Lin Fan provides them all, there’s absolutely no reason I can’t be with Lin Fan!”

“Damn it, you rotten woman! I never thought you’d turn out to be a gold digger. You’re only clinging to Lin Fan because he’s loaded!” Chen Wei cursed, but before he could finish, Lin Fan slapped him twice.

Lin Fan blew on his palm, satisfied as he watched Chen Wei’s face swell up like a pig’s head. He said lightly, “Chen Wei, you’d better watch your mouth. Two slaps this time—who knows what it’ll be next?”

“You!” Chen Wei fumed, and seeing Zhu Ruoxue looking up at Lin Fan with admiration only made him angrier. But remembering Lin Fan’s warning, he dared not speak again, standing there with hatred in his eyes as he glared at the pair.

Chen Wei was content to stand there, but Lin Fan had no desire for him to keep watching.

He walked Zhu Ruoxue to her door, and when she didn’t go inside, he asked curiously, “Why aren’t you going in?”

“You just drove your car home, so you should take mine back tonight,” she answered.

Two voices sounded at once. Lin Fan saw the shy blush on Zhu Ruoxue’s face and couldn’t help feeling his heart stir.

Unable to resist, he kissed her cheek. Seeing her face turn as red as a ripe apple, his affection deepened, and he spoke even more gently. “Go inside. I’ll wait until you’re safely in before I leave.”

“Then…good night,” Zhu Ruoxue said, handing him her car keys and fleeing into her house.

Lin Fan smiled even more tenderly at her adorable manner, heading downstairs to drive away, never noticing that the bruised and battered Chen Wei was secretly taking photos of him with his phone.

Lin Fan drove Zhu Ruoxue’s car back to the villa. Just as he opened the door to enter, a figure darted inside like the wind.

He frowned, stepped out of the car, and coldly eyed Chen Yanzi, who was dressed provocatively. “Why are you here again? Who said you could come in? Get out!”

Chen Yanzi had no time to answer Lin Fan’s questions. It was her first time inside the villa Lin Fan had bought, and she was too busy admiring it to care about his words.

She gazed greedily at the neatly trimmed garden, the blooming flowers, and her hatred for Gu Qingcheng—who had taken her place—grew even deeper.

In Chen Yanzi’s mind, everyone else was to blame. The two elders of the Chen family were at fault for their greed, urging her to demand such a hefty bride price from Lin Fan, which led to his turning against them.

Chen Wei was useless, unable to provide his own bride price and forcing her to sell herself for it.

As for Gu Qingcheng, she was even worse—knowing full well that Chen Yanzi was Lin Fan’s girlfriend, fiancée, and the future Lady Lin, yet still flirting with him!

But Lin Fan was the one most at fault! He clearly had money, yet pretended to be broke, claimed he couldn't afford even a three-bedroom apartment, and refused to pay a mere tens of thousands for the bride price. Yet, for that mistress, he bought a fifty-million villa with a wave of his hand!

Thinking of this, Chen Yanzi seethed with rage. If not for them, she would have been living in this grand villa already!

Seeing Chen Yanzi ignore his question, Lin Fan frowned and tried to drag her out. “Are you leaving on your own, or should I call security to throw you out? Chen Yanzi, you’re a beauty—do you really want to do something so disgraceful?”

“Lin Fan, how can you be this way?” Chen Yanzi shook off his hand fiercely, glaring at him with her perfectly lined and mascaraed eyes, looking pitiful. “We’re husband and wife! I’m your wife—can’t I enter this villa?”

“You? My wife?” Lin Fan almost laughed out loud at her shamelessness. He pointed at Chen Yanzi, “Since you say you’re my wife, may I ask—did we register our marriage? Where’s the certificate?”

“If you want, we can go get it tomorrow!” Chen Yanzi retorted, and while Lin Fan was distracted, she rushed straight into the villa’s living room.

“Hey—”
