Chapter Ninety-Eight: I Will Become the King of Hangg City!
The broad-shouldered man named Bai Jiahao shuddered so violently that he nearly wet himself, his bluster faltering under that look.
Yet his mouth remained defiant.
“Don’t get cocky! I know people even tougher than you. If you’ve got the guts, just wait. I’ll get some experts to kill you.”
“Experts?” Lin Fan gave a disdainful laugh. “Someone like you probably couldn’t even hire them. In the martial world, real experts are elite-level. Without a million or two, you can’t even get them in the door. Do you think I know nothing?”
From the moment he had the system, Lin Fan had known that this world contained extraordinary people he had only ever heard about online before.
People who could leap across rooftops and scale walls, masters of inner force, martial experts with bodies like iron and stone.
The second-tier shop already contained plenty of inner-force manuals and all sorts of strange martial arts, proof enough that such people truly existed.
Not to mention that Su Hanmo had spoken to him about these things as well.
He understood far more than this fool Bai Jiahao, who knew only how to eat, drink, and amuse himself.
Sure enough, after hearing this, Bai Jiahao was struck as though by lightning, staring at him in disbelief.
Hadn’t they said he came from the countryside? How could this man be so unfathomable? Being terrifyingly strong was one thing, but he even knew things ordinary people had never heard of.
Could he really be the illegitimate son of the richest man in the Lin family?
Still, thinking of Su Qianlong as his backing, Bai Jiahao clenched his teeth and threatened, “So what if you know more? I have countless ways to kill you. Not just you, but your company, and the women around you too. I’ll take everything!”
Without meaning to, he had blurted out what was in his heart.
Lin Fan almost laughed aloud. No wonder he was a fool: a little provocation, and he spilled his true thoughts. He had confessed without being asked.
But Bai Jiahao quickly realized his slip and hurriedly corrected himself.
“Going against me? You’re still too green. Don’t forget, I’m one of the Four Heavenly Kings of Hang City. I’m from the Bai family. Behind my family are many powerful backers!”
“What else can you do besides swagger and yap?” Lin Fan was a little speechless. This man was the very image of one who bullied the weak and feared the strong, capable only of barking.
“Anyway, you’ll die by my hand sooner or later. Don’t believe me? Just wait and see!”
Bai Jiahao roared with a twisted face.
The instant his words fell, the system’s notification rang in Lin Fan’s mind.
Ding! Detected intense murderous intent from Bai Jiahao toward the host. Revenge 2.0 mission triggered.
Devour the Bai family and become the richest man in Hang City. If the mission is completed, the Tier Three Shop will unlock immediately. Permanent item cards will be available for exchange.
Reward: all attributes +10. Reward: one villa in the center of West Lake.
Lin Fan had not expected that Bai Jiahao’s threats would instead trigger the Revenge 2.0 mission.
Thinking of the possibility that Su Qianlong and Bai Jiahao might truly try to make him disappear, he accepted the task without the slightest hesitation.
Ding! Revenge 2.0 mission activated.
“Bai Jiahao, you’ve succeeded in arousing my anger. I might as well tell you this: I never intended to stoop to the level of trash like you. But since you insist on killing me, I don’t mind making the Bai family vanish from Hang City.”
Coming back to himself, Lin Fan grinned with cold malice at Bai Jiahao.
Just for the sake of the mission reward and the immediate unlocking of the Tier Three Shop, he would stay in this fight to the end.
Inside the Tier Three Shop were all high-level permanent item cards. For example, once the Golden Armor card was upgraded to Tier Three, it would become permanent; after exchange, it would grant everlasting invulnerability to blades and spears, and immunity to poison.
Besides that, there were powers that only appeared in television dramas, such as mental control, invisibility cards, earth-burrowing cards, and many more. The Tier Three Shop contained all of them, along with numerous inner-force manuals, miraculous pills, and much else besides.
“Damn your mother!” Bai Jiahao snapped. “I nearly forgot—you still have your parents back in your hometown. If you dare kill me, I’ll have your parents killed too.”
“You’re not someone I can afford to offend!”
“An unknown nobody like you, some bottom-rung wage slave, has no idea how much power people of my standing wield...”
Bai Jiahao raged helplessly.
Whether he was truly frightened by Lin Fan or simply too furious to think straight, he cursed for several minutes before gradually calming down from sheer exhaustion.
Yet Lin Fan only glanced at him as though he were an idiot.
Clearly, Bai Jiahao believed Lin Fan had that ability. After all, at the slightest disagreement, Lin Fan had bought a hotel and a company outright; that kind of wealth amounted to hundreds of billions.
Across all of Hang City, there were only a handful of people who could produce that much money at once.
Not to mention Bai Jiahao now suspected Lin Fan of being the richest man’s illegitimate son, so of course he feared that Lin Fan might do exactly what he said.
He would rather fight Lin Fan to mutual destruction than let him destroy the Bai family.
That was why he had become so frantic.
“No matter how capable you are, can you surpass the heavens? In the future, I will become the heaven of Hang City! I will become the king of this city!”
Lin Fan gave a heavy snort and issued his domineering declaration.
What he had told Zhang Yi before about achieving success and making a name for himself meant becoming the richest man in Hang City, becoming a tycoon whose power reached the sky.
Bai Jiahao merely laughed in derision. “With that pathetic look of yours, you want to become the king of Hang City? What a joke. You think you can be king just because you want to? Without permission from the Four Heavenly Kings, you don’t even have the qualifications!”
“The Four Heavenly Kings? I think you’re more like four worms.”
“I don’t have time to waste here with you. Since you want to play, I’ll accompany you to the end. If you’re not afraid to die...”
Lin Fan no longer wished to waste words with this fool. Having said that, he turned and walked toward the elevator.
Bai Jiahao was cursed so harshly that he nearly exploded with rage. He glared at the pockmarked man who had been watching from the side and shouted, “What are you standing there for? Attack him, damn it!”
The pockmarked man hesitated for two seconds, but in the end still rushed at Lin Fan.
Yet Lin Fan suddenly turned around and stared at him with a ferocious expression.
“What? You’re not afraid to die either?”
The next second, the pockmarked man was so frightened that he froze in place, unable to move.
“You call yourself a fighter? Pathetic. Fighting me is like an ant trying to topple a tree—overestimating yourself...” Lin Fan snorted without even looking back. He turned and stepped into the elevator, disappearing from both men’s sight.
Only when the elevator doors shut did the pockmarked man finally swallow hard.
Looking down, he saw that his palm was drenched in cold sweat.
At the sight, Bai Jiahao was furious beyond measure.
“I paid you to come here, and this is all you’ve got? Seven of you together and you still couldn’t beat one man!”
Seeing Bai Jiahao rage helplessly, the pockmarked man could only answer with a bitter face, “Young Master Bai, that man is too strong! We’re not even on the same level as him. You saw it yourself just now—after taking so many hits, he was still as vigorous as ever... Forgive my frankness, but I’m afraid only outer-style experts can deal with him. Why don’t you go hire one? We don’t want the money you paid us. Not a cent.”
“Useless trash!”
Bai Jiahao’s face twisted with rage.
...
After leaving the building, Lin Fan did not head straight back to the company, nor did he return to the villa. Instead, he went to the coach station and bought a ticket back to his hometown.
Bai Jiahao’s words had reminded him of something: his parents were still back home.
He could not allow them to fall under Su Qianlong’s control, or Su Qianlong would be able to manipulate him with ease.
