Chapter 103: Who Should I Look For?
Jiang Ce rubbed his forehead helplessly and could only let Ruan Mianmian squeeze past him, watching as she marched toward the restroom with an air of righteous fury.
To anyone who did not know better, she looked like she was storming off to catch an affair in the act.
A few minutes later, Ruan Mianmian stood before the sink and turned on the faucet. Before she even reached out her hand, she suddenly heard a shrill cry.
"Help! Who are you? Let go of me! Help!"
Ruan Mianmian instantly went on alert and glanced toward the entrance of the women’s restroom. She had just come out of there.
But from the sound of it, the voice seemed to be coming from the men’s room across the way.
Yet how could there be a girl’s voice in the men’s restroom?
Ruan Mianmian shut off the faucet at once and hurried out. In the middle of the corridor, by the men’s restroom door, a stretch of snow-white leg was visible.
It was clearly a young woman, and she was wearing a short skirt.
Her hand was clamped so tightly to the doorframe that her knuckles had gone white, while someone inside the men’s room was desperately trying to drag her in.
What on earth was going on?
Ruan Mianmian did not have time to think. She shouted at once, "Let go of her!"
"Who’s sticking their nose in? Get lost, don’t disturb this old man’s fun!"
A voice thick with alcohol, yet loud and fierce, rang out immediately.
"Save me, save me!"
The next moment, Ruan Mianmian felt her arm suddenly grabbed. It must have been the girl, hearing her voice and instinctively clutching her tightly.
With the curtain between them and the dim lighting, Ruan Mianmian could not make out exactly what was happening inside.
Without another thought, she shoved aside the half curtain at the men’s restroom entrance and rushed in, kicking the man in the stomach.
"Ouch! Who did that? Are you tired of living?!"
The middle-aged man, thick-necked and bloated, lost his balance and dropped straight to the floor.
The girl he had been holding hostage instantly regained her freedom.
Scrambling and half-crawling, she threw herself at Ruan Mianmian as though terrified she might be seized again.
"Don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid."
Ruan Mianmian hurriedly soothed her. The lighting here was too dim, so she first helped the girl out into the corridor before turning back into the men’s room.
The man on the floor was flushed a deep red. No one knew whether he had drunk himself senseless or taken some kind of filthy stimulant, but his swollen face still wore a lewd grin.
Seeing an even more beautiful face, the drunk’s excitement only grew.
"Little sister, why run? Come keep your brother company and have some fun!"
"Have some fun, is that it?"
Ruan Mianmian’s gaze abruptly darkened. Gathering strength in her leg, she stepped forward and delivered two more heavy kicks with a thud-thud.
"You scum! Filth! Go to hell!"
Ruan Mianmian’s curses and the man’s cries of pain and pleading mingled into one.
After venting that girl’s anger for her, Ruan Mianmian swept the curtain aside and strode back out.
Unexpectedly, she slammed straight into a broad chest.
Clutching her nose in pain, Ruan Mianmian looked up in irritation. The foul words she had been ready to hurl died instantly on her lips.
"Tsk."
Jiang Ce’s eyes were dark. "If you were going into the men’s room, wouldn’t it have been better to take me with you?"
"..."
Enough already.
Ruan Mianmian shot him a glare and brushed past him, still worried about the girl who had nearly been molested by that disgusting man.
Unexpectedly, Jiang Ce suddenly caught her wrist. "Are you all right?"
"I’m fine."
There was a trace of impatience in Ruan Mianmian’s tone as she struggled to break free of his hold.
But Jiang Ce would not let it go. "Next time something happens, do you know who to look for?"
"Don’t start."
"Who?"
"...You."
The strength on her wrist abruptly eased. Then she heard Jiang Ce’s low, steady voice tint with a hint of pleasure.
"Wouldn’t it have been easier if you’d said so sooner?"
Back in the corridor, Ruan Mianmian saw that the girl was still sitting on the floor, her shoulders trembling as if she were crying.
"Are you all right?"
"I, I’m fine."
The girl’s voice came broken with sobs, and Ruan Mianmian bent down, preparing to comfort her.
But then she felt that the person before her looked oddly familiar.
And when she thought about it again, the voice sounded familiar too.
Ruan Mianmian’s hand froze. She patted the girl’s shoulder and asked tentatively, "You are...?"
"I..."
The girl looked up, her eyes widening in surprise, the crying stopping at once.
"Director? H-How is it you?"
Ruan Mianmian’s eyes widened. "It really is you, Xiang Nuan?"
"Waaah—Director!"
Tears instantly poured down Xiang Nuan’s face, and the volume of her sobbing rose sharply, making Ruan Mianmian’s shoulder sink a little under the force of her embrace.
"It’s all right, it’s all right, don’t cry! I already taught him a lesson for you. Don’t cry!"
As Ruan Mianmian comforted Xiang Nuan, she did not forget to ask, "Why are you here?"
Xiang Nuan was usually gentle and quiet, and her dress was plain and unassuming. She did not look like someone who would frequent a place like this.
But all at once, Ruan Mianmian noticed something different.
At the company, Xiang Nuan wore her long hair with heavy bangs and a stiff black-framed pair of glasses, hiding most of her face.
Yet now she was in a short-sleeved dress, elegant and fashionable, with her bangs swept aside and her glasses gone, revealing a pair of dark, lively eyes.
She looked like a completely different person.
That was why Ruan Mianmian had not recognized her immediately in the dim light just now.
Xiang Nuan tried to hold back her crying and said through sniffles, "I came with my sister. I was just going to the restroom when I ran into a drunk man. He kept pestering me and even tried to drag me into the men’s room..."
Ruan Mianmian fell silent at once.
She glanced back at Jiang Ce and said, "Give me a hand."
Together they helped Xiang Nuan up from the floor. Ruan Mianmian supported her by the arm and asked, "Where is your sister? I’ll take you to her."
"Thank you, Director!"
Xiang Nuan looked deeply grateful and seemed on the verge of crying again.
Jiang Ce had remained silent the whole time, but when he looked at Xiang Nuan, there was a trace of inquiry in his eyes, followed by a hint of understanding.
Ruan Mianmian walked ahead with Xiang Nuan, and before long, guided by Xiang Nuan, they arrived at the door of an upscale private room on the third floor.
"You go in. I won’t come along."
Ruan Mianmian thought that she did not know the people inside, and going in to greet them would only make things awkward, so she planned to stop there.
Unexpectedly, Xiang Nuan grabbed her hand. "Director, you saved me. I should thank you no matter what. My sister also wants to meet you, so why not come in and have a chat together?"
"Huh?"
Why would Xiang Nuan’s sister want to see her?
Before Ruan Mianmian could even speak, Xiang Nuan had already half-dragged, half-pulled her into the private room.
It was not until Ruan Mianmian saw a familiar face inside that she immediately became unsteady.
"What are you doing here?"
"What are you doing here?"
Two nearly identical questions rang out in the room at the same time.
Jiang Ce wore a faint smile and silently stood behind Ruan Mianmian, looking at Chen Ci as he said, "And me."
Chen Ci froze at once.
What was going on?
Then Xiang Nuan hurried over, looking aggrieved, to the side of a graceful, delicate-looking woman and complained, "I just ran into a drunk man by the restroom, and he almost dragged me into the men’s room!"
