Chapter 107: Receiving Roses
“Get ready; you’ll be coming with me to the meeting,” Nuan Mianmian said, looking at Xiang Nuan.
She intended to let Xiang Nuan familiarize herself with the company’s business. After last night’s introduction, their relationship was no longer just that of colleagues.
Xiang Nuan was momentarily stunned, then exclaimed with delight, “You’re taking me?”
Happiness had arrived so suddenly.
Nuan Mianmian smiled and nodded. “If I’m not around, you’ll likely be at the mercy of these people again. It’s better to join me for the meeting, and you can get to know the company’s operations.”
“Alright!” Xiang Nuan instantly lost interest in the bouquet in her hands and began preparing enthusiastically for the meeting ahead.
At ten o’clock, Nuan Mianmian took Xiang Nuan and headed to the thirty-second floor, only to run into Wang Yue at the elevator.
They exchanged glances at the elevator entrance.
Nuan Mianmian had hoped to get upstairs early, but fate had brought Wang Yue to her.
It didn’t really matter. She simply pretended not to notice.
Nuan Mianmian thought Wang Yue would share the same unspoken agreement, but instead, Wang Yue turned her attention to Xiang Nuan.
Wang Yue glanced at Xiang Nuan, her expression displeased.
Her voice was laced with arrogance and disdain as she asked, “What are you doing here?”
Hearing Wang Yue’s sharp tone, Xiang Nuan shrank behind Nuan Mianmian.
She replied quietly, “I’m going up to the meeting with the Director.”
“A meeting?” Wang Yue laughed even more derisively.
At this moment, Nuan Mianmian spoke up, “Is there something you’d like to say, Team Leader Wang?”
“Hardly advice,” Wang Yue sneered at Nuan Mianmian. “This meeting is only for managers and above. Who does she think she is? Director, you shouldn’t play favorites.”
Wang Yue pointed at Xiang Nuan, who froze in confusion.
She had no idea the meeting had a rank restriction.
Nuan Mianmian couldn’t help but chuckle coldly. “Save these words for Jian Yanzhi. I don’t need you telling me what to do.”
Jian Yanzhi wouldn’t make an issue of it anyway.
Nuan Mianmian was certain of that.
Just then, the elevator doors opened.
Nuan Mianmian pulled Xiang Nuan inside first.
Wang Yue, face dark with displeasure, glared at them from outside.
Nuan Mianmian curled her lips in a smile. “Team Leader Wang, if you don’t come now, you’ll be late.”
Wang Yue’s fingers tensed around her folded arms, then she released them and strode into the elevator.
The atmosphere inside instantly grew heavy. Xiang Nuan hunched her shoulders, anxiety written all over her.
Nuan Mianmian patted her shoulder, signaling not to be nervous.
Soon, the elevator stopped at the thirty-second floor.
Wang Yue, as if she could not bear it any longer, immediately exited and stormed toward the conference room.
Nuan Mianmian watched her aggressive figure and couldn’t help but curve her lips.
Xiang Nuan adjusted her glasses and said hesitantly, “Director, I could just not go. You don’t have to offend Team Leader Wang for me.”
After what happened yesterday, Xiang Nuan was deeply grateful, but seeing the Director so targeted made her uneasy.
“Don’t worry. It’s not entirely because of you,” Nuan Mianmian said, smiling softly. “I’m bored anyway. Consider it a bit of fun at work.”
Xiang Nuan fell silent, surprised by the unexpected answer.
“Wait here for a moment. I’m going to find the General Manager,” Nuan Mianmian said, squeezing the object in her palm and giving Xiang Nuan instructions before heading toward Jian Yanzhi’s office.
Jian Yanzhi was about to leave for the conference room when Nuan Mianmian blocked him at the door.
“Why are you so aggressive? Anyone would think I’d done something to you,” Jian Yanzhi quipped, noticing the displeasure on her face.
Nuan Mianmian didn’t bother with small talk. She put the item in her hand on his desk, turned, and was about to leave.
Jian Yanzhi caught up and blocked her path. “You’re so eager to return it?”
“What else?”
“I bought it for you. Just accept it. Even if you don’t wear it, keep it,” he urged.
“What for?” Nuan Mianmian rolled her eyes and added, “If you care so much, you should treat Song Chenxi properly. She’s your girlfriend. Can you get that straight?”
“Why are you bringing her up again?” Jian Yanzhi’s impatience showed in his eyes. “I told you, we broke up. Why don’t you believe me?”
Nuan Mianmian remained unmoved, her gaze calm and unruffled.
Jian Yanzhi raised his brows. “Did she say something to you? Tell me.”
“No,” Nuan Mianmian replied firmly. “She hasn’t approached me, and I don’t want to get involved in your matters. I’ve made myself clear. Please stop this, alright?”
Jian Yanzhi was silent, staring at her.
He hadn’t expected Nuan Mianmian to be so resolute this time.
He’d tried everything, but nothing worked.
Seeing him speechless, Nuan Mianmian walked out briskly.
After leaving, she glared back angrily.
Xiang Nuan hurried to meet her and, seeing Nuan Mianmian’s displeased face, asked, “Director, what’s wrong?”
Nuan Mianmian took a deep breath. “Why couldn’t I be more resolute back then? What’s so great about Hanhai Corporation anyway?”
“Huh?” Xiang Nuan was confused. “Director, what do you mean?”
Nuan Mianmian glanced at her, patted her shoulder, and said, “I really should leave. From now on, you’ll have to rely on yourself.”
“What? You’re leaving?” Xiang Nuan was still lost in the fog, but Nuan Mianmian clearly had no intention of explaining further and walked away.
Entering the conference room, the atmosphere instantly quieted. All eyes turned toward Nuan Mianmian.
She was unbothered, taking Xiang Nuan with her and casually choosing a seat.
Xiang Nuan felt uneasy, not knowing where to look or what to do with her hands.
She sensed something odd in the air, though she couldn’t put her finger on it.
She noticed that after the Director entered, Wang Yue’s face soured, and those nearby seemed unfriendly.
What was wrong with these people?
The Director was such a good person, yet they treated her this way.
Xiang Nuan felt indignant for Nuan Mianmian.
What she didn’t know was that anyone in the company who had achieved something disliked those who got in through connections.
They contributed nothing, lacked ability, yet enjoyed high pay and benefits.
That sense of unfairness simmered in everyone’s hearts, though none would say it aloud.
In their eyes, Nuan Mianmian was someone who had gained her position through family ties without effort, and naturally, they resented her.
But Nuan Mianmian cared little for any of this.
To her, these people were insignificant; their opinions mattered even less.
