“Just let me out at the intersection ahead. It’s difficult to turn at the entrance to the residential compound.”
Zhong Yu thoughtfully reminded her, and Ruan Mianmian nodded.
“All right.”
After getting out, Zhong Yu came around to the passenger side and gestured for Ruan Mianmian to lower the window.
“What is it?” Ruan Mianmian asked.
A sudden gust of wind carried the faint scent of alcohol from Zhong Yu toward her.
Lowering his eyes, Zhong Yu gazed deeply at her for a moment before smiling gently. “Nothing. Thank you for bringing me home tonight. Good night in advance.”
Ruan Mianmian blinked, then smiled. “All right. Go on home.”
“Mm.”
Zhong Yu then turned and walked ahead.
A-Kuan turned the car around and headed toward Seastar Bay. The entire journey passed in silence.
Ruan Mianmian leaned against the back of her seat, looking somewhat tired, but A-Kuan knew that she had not even closed her eyes.
She merely stared blankly at the thick darkness outside the window.
When they arrived outside the villa at Seastar Bay, A-Kuan slowly brought the car to a stop.
Ruan Mianmian looked at him blankly. “Why aren’t you driving in?”
A-Kuan lifted his chin, a faint smile appearing on his face.
Following the direction he indicated, Ruan Mianmian looked over and saw Jiang Ce standing quietly by the roadside beneath the dim yellow streetlights, as though he had been waiting for her.
The glow between his fingers flickered on and off. He was smoking. Once he noticed the movement on their side, he went straight to the trash can, snuffed out his cigarette, and walked toward them.
Ruan Mianmian got out on her own and stopped two or three steps away from Jiang Ce.
She raised a hand and gestured. “Go take a shower.”
“...”
Jiang Ce stopped where he was. His dark eyes burned as they fixed on Ruan Mianmian, tranquil as a deep pool, revealing nothing of his emotions.
Ruan Mianmian had no intention of getting into a standoff with him. She shifted her gaze elsewhere for a moment, then quietly walked past him.
Jiang Ce did not stop her either, allowing her to brush past him.
A-Kuan silently watched everything through the car window and suddenly frowned.
He had a strong premonition that the two of them would be sleeping in separate rooms tonight.
Sure enough, after entering, Ruan Mianmian went straight toward her room. The door slammed shut with a loud bang, making the people outside instinctively peer inside.
Jiang Ce stood silently in the living room downstairs and glanced toward one of the rooms on the second floor.
At that moment, a bedroom door near the corner of the second floor suddenly opened, and a petite, lovely figure darted out.
“What was that sound? Did a ghost come? Where is it? I’ll beat it to death!”
Fang Xiaoyan waved the shovel in her hands and looked around frantically, appearing completely panic-stricken.

Jiang Ce frowned as he glanced at her, a trace of irritation in his eyes.
“Didn’t I tell you to go back to bed? Why have you come out again?”
Fang Xiaoyan heard his voice. With a loud clatter, she dropped the shovel to the floor, then stumbled toward Jiang Ce and threw herself into his arms.
“Big Brother Jiang, there’s a ghost! It’s so scary!”
“There are no ghosts here. It’s perfectly safe, so don’t worry. Go back to bed.”
Jiang Ce’s expression was cold, yet he had no choice but to patiently coax her.
Old Zhang poked his head out from the kitchen. Seeing the scene, he hurried over and helped Jiang Ce pull Fang Xiaoyan out of his arms.
“Miss Fang, there are no ghosts here. I had the cook prepare you some calming soup. Shall we go to the kitchen and have some?”
“Go away!”
Fang Xiaoyan shoved Old Zhang with all her strength, nearly knocking him over.
Then she shrank behind Jiang Ce, trembling, and cautiously took his hand.
“Big Brother Jiang, will you stay with me? I’m really scared.”
“...”
“Brother Ruan?”
Someone mentioned Ruan Mianmian, and Jiang Ce immediately looked up toward the second floor.
Ruan Mianmian was standing in her doorway, quietly watching everything below. Her face appeared expressionless.
But Jiang Ce noticed how tightly she had pressed her lips together and could sense just how displeased she was.
The moment Ruan Mianmian moved, Jiang Ce hurriedly lifted his foot and started toward the stairs.
He was afraid that if he did not explain himself soon, she would be angry with him for the rest of the night.
Unexpectedly, the instant Jiang Ce moved, Ruan Mianmian also strode briskly downstairs.
Seeing her movement, Jiang Ce halted with one foot on the stairs. Ruan Mianmian passed him expressionlessly and walked straight over to Fang Xiaoyan.
“Who are you?”
Fang Xiaoyan once again put on a frightened expression and looked toward Jiang Ce in the distance as though seeking help.
Ruan Mianmian curled her lips into a sweet smile and said warmly, “Are you scared? Then this big sister will keep you company, all right? Don’t worry. I’m much gentler than Jiang Ce.”
Uh...
What was going on?
Everyone watching the spectacle, Jiang Ce included, froze on the spot.
A-Kuan blinked innocently. Judging by the imposing manner with which Ruan Mianmian had come downstairs, anyone with eyes would have thought she was coming down to pick a fight.
But this was what she had come down for?
Fang Xiaoyan immediately crouched tremblingly on the floor and looked pitifully at Ruan Mianmian.
“Big sister, you look so fierce.”

So fierce?
Ruan Mianmian was stunned. It was the first time someone older than her had called her “big sister,” and she had even been told she looked fierce, despite the fact that she had called herself that first.
Still, she felt terribly annoyed.
What was she supposed to do?
Ruan Mianmian folded her arms and lowered her head, scrutinizing Fang Xiaoyan until the latter began to avert her gaze.
“Am I fierce? Then you’ve got the wrong idea. I have the best temper of anyone here.”
Ruan Mianmian crouched down and brought herself level with Fang Xiaoyan’s eyes.
“So I’ll give you one more chance. Do you want me to keep you company?”
Her tone was coaxing, like someone luring a child into behaving, and the smile on her face was so sweet it seemed ready to drip with honey.
Fang Xiaoyan’s gaze moved back and forth between Ruan Mianmian and Jiang Ce before finally settling on Ruan Mianmian.
“All right.”
Fang Xiaoyan nodded cautiously.
Ruan Mianmian stepped forward and took her hand. Her eyes flickered with surprise, then she smiled.
“Which room do you sleep in? I’ll take you back.”
Fang Xiaoyan shakily raised a finger and pointed to the room beside Jiang Ce’s.
“Which one?”
Ruan Mianmian followed her finger and glanced over, then turned back.
“That room won’t do. I’ll find you another one.”
Everyone’s eyes widened, and then they began to laugh.
Fang Xiaoyan was stunned as well, but then she shook her head.
“No! I want that one! It’s closest to Big Brother Jiang. I want to sleep next to him.”
“You want to sleep beside my boyfriend’s room?” Ruan Mianmian asked flatly.
A flicker of coldness passed through Fang Xiaoyan’s eyes, but she quickly returned to her usual innocent expression.
“Big sister, is that not allowed?”
“Of course it is.”
Ruan Mianmian nodded, then repeated, “Are you sure you want that room?”
“Mm.”
Fang Xiaoyan nodded.
Without the slightest hesitation, Ruan Mianmian led Fang Xiaoyan to the room beside Jiang Ce’s.
Just as everyone was wondering how Ruan Mianmian could possibly have agreed to this, she glanced at Jiang Ce from the second floor and said coldly,
“You. Come sleep in my room!”
With that, she went back to her own room without another word.
Everyone immediately understood.
“Ooh...”
