Chapter 137: You Liar

“Boss, go on!” A-Kuan urged him fervently from behind.
Jiang Ce rubbed the tip of his nose, catching the faint trace of smoke still lingering on his fingertips. He smiled.
“I’ll take a shower first.”
Everyone’s eyes instantly filled with suggestive meaning. Jiang Ce calmly lifted his foot and headed upstairs.
After his shower, Jiang Ce pushed open the door to Ruan Mianmian’s room, his hair still dripping wet.
Inside, Ruan Mianmian lay on the bed, fuming, her phone in hand as she typed furiously at something.
Jiang Ce picked up a towel and casually rubbed his hair as he walked into the room, then sat down on the sofa.
His posture was relaxed, his expression at ease.
Ruan Mianmian glanced up at him, tossed her phone aside, and got out of bed to approach him.
She stopped a step away.
“Explain yourself.”
Jiang Ce curved his lips into a smile. “Do you really have to speak to me in that interrogative tone, as though I were a criminal?”
“I do!”
Impatience flashed in Ruan Mianmian’s eyes as she urged him, “Hurry up and explain! While I’m still willing to listen, you’d better be honest with me.”
“Come here.”
Jiang Ce gestured for her to sit beside him, but she remained unmoved.
“Not going to listen?”
The corner of Jiang Ce’s eye lifted. He seized Ruan Mianmian by the wrist and forcibly pulled her to his side, then wrapped an arm around her waist.
“Your hair is dripping!”
Ruan Mianmian disgustedly tried to widen the distance between them, but with Jiang Ce holding her, she could not break free.
“Don’t move. Sit properly.”
With that, Jiang Ce placed the towel in her hands.
“Dry it for me.”
Ruan Mianmian instantly felt the urge to fling the towel straight into his handsome face.
“Don’t you have hands of your own?”
She made no move.
Jiang Ce cast her a sidelong glance and replied, “That’s what being a couple means. You do things together that could obviously be done alone, simply because you want to share them. So help me dry my hair.”
“Tch!”
Ruan Mianmian rolled her eyes at him, but obediently raised her hand, placed the towel on top of his head, and began rubbing it in complete disorder.
“Could you do it properly?”
Amusement colored Jiang Ce’s voice. He reached up, took hold of her fingers, and guided her hand as she dried his hair.
“All right, all right. That’s enough.”

His hair was not yet dry, but at least it had stopped dripping.
Ruan Mianmian casually tossed the towel aside.
“Look at you. You’re so impatient.”
Jiang Ce’s large hand was warm and dry as he pressed it against her chin, gently turning her face toward him.
Ruan Mianmian quietly gazed at him for a couple of seconds. Just as she was beginning to grow impatient, Jiang Ce suddenly leaned in and pressed his lips to hers.
His familiar scent spread beneath her nose. Supporting her back with one hand, Jiang Ce slowly lowered her onto the sofa behind her.
“Jiang Ce!”
Ruan Mianmian placed a hand against his chest.
“You still haven’t explained anything to me!”
“What is there to explain? Don’t you know how I feel about you?”
“Shouldn’t I at least understand what happened?”
Ruan Mianmian’s face flushed with anger, and even her breathing grew more rapid.
Jiang Ce studied her in silence for a long while before breaking into a brilliant smile.
“I really like the way you look when you’re jealous.”
Ruan Mianmian shoved him away and moved to get up from the sofa, but Jiang Ce leaned forward and wrapped his arms around her waist again.
Then, quick as a flash, he lifted her horizontally from the sofa and carried her toward the bed beside them.
“Why are you in such a hurry? We can talk in bed!”
Jiang Ce lay back on the large bed and guided Ruan Mianmian’s head onto the crook of his arm.
His unhurried voice sounded above her head.
“Her name is Fang Xiaoyan. She was the girl from my childhood neighborhood, and my only childhood friend, in a sense.”
Jiang Ce’s fingertips traced along Ruan Mianmian’s hand until they reached her ear. He gently pinched her small earlobe and toyed with it.
“After something happened to my family, her family was dragged into it as well. Her father later died in a car accident. She happened to be staying with her maternal grandmother at the time, which was why she escaped unharmed.
“I never told you about what happened back then, and I don’t want to bring it up now. You only need to know that she ended up like this because my family’s troubles dragged her down with us. I can’t simply abandon her.”
Ruan Mianmian listened in silence, her thoughts churning.
The person connected to the accident that had befallen Jiang Ce’s family during his childhood—she vaguely remembered that, in the novel, there had seemed to be a boy who had been mistaken for Jiang Ce, then kidnapped and killed by criminals.
Yet in reality, that person had become a girl. And the girl was still alive, only to end up mentally impaired, like a helpless fool.
The more Ruan Mianmian thought about it, the more melodramatic the whole situation seemed.
Seeing that she remained silent, Jiang Ce continued, “Don’t worry. I’ll find a doctor to treat her, and I’ll arrange a place for her to live afterward. But for now, she has to stay here. There are still some things I want to ask her.”
Ruan Mianmian glanced at him.
“Are you sure you’ll be able to get anything out of her in that condition?”
“Either way, we have to try.”
Ripples stirred in Jiang Ce’s usually calm eyes.

He still knew too little about the tragedy that had destroyed his entire family. Fang Xiaoyan might well have been a witness. He had to uncover the truth.
Ruan Mianmian pondered quietly for a long while, but could not come to any conclusion.
“I can accept her living here, but you have to keep your distance from her. Even if she’s mentally impaired, she can’t be hugging you and—”
The moment she imagined that scene, Ruan Mianmian became so furious that she could hardly breathe.
“All right. I promise.”
Jiang Ce stroked her cheek and nodded readily.
A short while later, when he noticed that the person beside him had gone still, Jiang Ce pinched her cheek.
“Fell asleep?”
Ruan Mianmian opened her eyes.
“So if I had fallen asleep, this is how you would treat me?”
“I knew you weren’t asleep.”
Jiang Ce laughed to himself twice, then sat up and leaned in to kiss her cheek.
Ruan Mianmian turned her head away and shrank back.
“Not tonight.”
“Why not?”
“No reason! Just no!”
Ruan Mianmian quickly burrowed beneath the covers and lay down with her back to him.
Jiang Ce silently curved his lips, then lay down behind her and gathered her into his arms.
“Take it off. Don’t you hate sleeping in your clothes?”
Ruan Mianmian clutched the collar of her clothes tightly.
You really think I’m an idiot?
“I won’t touch you. Is that enough?”
Jiang Ce gave an exasperated laugh.
“Really?”
Ruan Mianmian looked back at him suspiciously.
Jiang Ce blinked, appearing faintly innocent.
“I think you’re an untrustworthy man!”
The instant she finished speaking, Jiang Ce kissed her again, leaving her no time to react.
By the time he had thoroughly exhausted her, Ruan Mianmian finally could not help cursing him.
“Jiang Ce, you liar!”
The only answer she received was Jiang Ce’s uncontrollable laughter and ragged breathing.
