Only after getting into the car did Ruan Mianmian slowly take out her lipstick and finish touching up her makeup.

On the way to Mountainside Villa, she received another urging text from Jian Yanzhi.

She sent him a voice message, telling him that she was already on her way and would arrive soon.

Jian Yanzhi did not reply again.

After a drive of more than half an hour, Ruan Mianmian finally reached her destination—Mountainside Villa.

At that moment, the security guards outside were busier than ever. Guests arrived in an endless stream, and all kinds of luxury cars came one after another.

Caught among them, Ruan Mianmian could not help remarking, “There are certainly a lot of people here.”

Soon, it was her turn.

With a brilliant smile plastered across his face, the security guard came to her car.

“Hello, miss. May I see your invitation, please?”

An invitation?

She did not have one.

Ruan Mianmian shook her head and replied, “I don’t have an invitation, but I’m Jian—”

“Sorry,” the guard interrupted impatiently. “Without an invitation, we can’t let you through.”

The smile vanished from his face at once, and a trace of disdain entered his eyes as he looked at Ruan Mianmian.

These days, all kinds of people showed up. Just because she was somewhat attractive, she actually thought she could sneak into Old Master Jian’s birthday banquet?

How shameless!

Ruan Mianmian let out a cold laugh and continued, “I’m Jian Yanzhi’s friend. He invited me here. If you don’t believe me, I can call him right now.”

“Please, miss.” The guard sneered. “Could you stop wasting everyone else’s time? If you have any sense, leave immediately. This isn’t the kind of place where anyone can stroll in just because they’re good-looking. Go find somewhere else to loiter.”

“Beep, beep—”

At that moment, a car behind her began honking impatiently.

The guard grew even more annoyed. “Miss, please leave. We have other guests to attend to.”

Ruan Mianmian rested one hand on the car window and crooked a finger at the guard, signaling him to come closer.

“Watch closely. I’m calling him right now.”

Suppressing her anger, Ruan Mianmian picked up her phone with an aggrieved expression and dialed Jian Yanzhi’s number.

But no matter what he was busy with, Jian Yanzhi did not answer for a long while.

The guard had initially assumed that Ruan Mianmian’s solemn manner meant she was telling the truth. But after watching her call for so long without any response, the smugness on his face grew even stronger.

Now, he was even more suspicious of her identity.

“Miss, are you done yet? I’m only speaking politely because I don’t want to curse at you. You should know when to quit and leave already!”

The guard’s contemptuous gaze lingered on Ruan Mianmian’s sweet face as he continued disdainfully, “Don’t push your luck. Don’t think that being pretty gives you the right to do whatever you want. This isn’t some ordinary place.”

“Watch your mouth!”

Ruan Mianmian was seething inside, but she did not want to argue with a security guard in front of everyone. She had never expected him to become so insolent.

“You want me to watch my mouth? Do you even deserve that courtesy? What sort of riffraff are you, pretending to be some socialite? Get lost!”

Ruan Mianmian clenched her fists in fury. She was just about to get out of the car and teach him a proper lesson when her phone suddenly rang.

“Hello? Why didn’t you answer just now?”

“What happened? Why do you sound so angry?”

Jian Yanzhi had just gone to greet some guests and had not had time to check his phone.

The moment he saw Ruan Mianmian’s missed call, he called her back. He had no idea why she sounded so furious.

“Come out and get me,” Ruan Mianmian said coldly, her eyes fixed on the security guard outside.

Jian Yanzhi began walking toward the entrance. “You’re here? Where are you?”

Ruan Mianmian raised an eyebrow. “I’m right at the entrance. I can’t get in because I don’t have an invitation, and on top of that, I was thoroughly insulted! I’m furious!”

Jian Yanzhi immediately sensed that something was wrong. He quickened his pace and said in a deep voice, “Wait for me. I’ll be there shortly.”

Ruan Mianmian tossed her phone onto the passenger seat and looked at the guard outside with raised brows.

“Just wait. He’ll be out soon.”

Panic instantly spread across the guard’s face. He had never imagined that this woman might truly be a guest.

He was finished. Completely finished.

Those were the only two thoughts left in his mind.

“What happened?”

From a distance, Jian Yanzhi spotted the familiar Land Rover and hurried toward the entrance.

When the guard turned and actually saw Jian Yanzhi approaching, his expression changed dramatically.

“Mr. Jian, your friend didn’t have an invitation, so I stopped her.”

Jian Yanzhi’s expression was icy as he asked directly, “Did you insult her?”

The guard awkwardly pressed his lips together. “Not exactly. I thought she had come here deliberately to cause trouble, so I just said a few things to her. I didn’t actually curse at her.”

“Tsk!”

With her arms folded, Ruan Mianmian listened to the exchange outside and could not help letting out a cold laugh.

She opened the car door and stepped out on her own, looking at the guard coldly.

“What? You dare say things but not take responsibility for them? Whose mouth was so filthy just now?”

Jian Yanzhi glanced at Ruan Mianmian. Seeing how red her face was with anger, he knew the guard had certainly said nothing pleasant.

But his grandfather was still waiting inside, and this was no time to delay.

“Apologize to Miss Ruan,” Jian Yanzhi ordered coldly.

The guard hurriedly lowered his head and apologized, adding a deep ninety-degree bow.

“I’m terribly sorry. It was all because of my poor judgment that I offended you, miss. I hope you’re magnanimous enough not to hold it against a mere security guard like me.”

Ruan Mianmian swept him with a cold glance, then nodded at Jian Yanzhi.

“Forget it. I can’t be bothered to argue with him.”

With that, she casually tossed her car keys to Jian Yanzhi and smiled.

“Young Master Jian, be my chauffeur for once.”

She then headed straight for the passenger seat.

Jian Yanzhi stood there in a daze for a moment before smiling, opening the car door, and getting in.

After the car was allowed through, the guard stared after it several times in disbelief.

He had never expected this woman to truly know Mr. Jian—and judging by their manner, they seemed to be very close.

The guard suddenly felt that his peaceful days were over.

After parking the car, Ruan Mianmian got out first. Jian Yanzhi remained in the driver’s seat, unmoving for a long while.

Ruan Mianmian had already taken a step away when she paused and turned back.

“Aren’t you getting out?”

Jian Yanzhi gave her a cold sidelong glance.

“You only become proactive when you need to use me, don’t you?”

“Uh… You don’t have to put it that way.”

Ruan Mianmian curved her lips into a smile. “Besides, I was insulted because of this. Isn’t it only right that you help me save face?”

Jian Yanzhi’s eyes darkened as his gaze lingered on her face for a moment.

Then he smiled quietly and nodded.

“It is. Let’s go.”

He got out of the car and walked straight inside without even looking back at her.

Ruan Mianmian stood there awkwardly and rubbed the tip of her nose.
