Chapter 29: Always Listen to the Lady of the House
“Honey!” Qin Haiyu suddenly pursed her lips and looked at him seriously. “Let me ask you a question.”
Yu Zhile replied, “What question?”
Qin Haiyu grinned, her eyes twinkling. “Do you know what it feels like to kneel on a durian?”
Yu Zhile: “…”
Then Qin Haiyu continued, “Honey, do you know how to type with your knees when kneeling on a keyboard?”
“Ahem…” Yu Zhile was about to reach out and pull Qin Haiyu closer to talk, but she scooted aside and kept asking, “Honey, do you know how to kneel on instant noodles without breaking them?”
“Darling, I was wrong!” Yu Zhile surrendered. He had just boasted a little and accidentally said something wrong—was it necessary to threaten him like this?
And she had promised only one question, but suddenly there were so many!
Ah, wives!
Qin Haiyu huffed, “Where were you wrong?”
Yu Zhile replied, aggrieved, “Everywhere!”
“Pfft…” Qin Haiyu had planned to act unreasonable, forcing her husband to kiss, hug, and lift her high before she would forgive him. But his pitiful “everywhere” unexpectedly made her burst out laughing.
She quickly stifled her laughter, then slapped away Yu Zhile’s roaming hand and snorted, “Since your attitude is decent, I’ll give you another chance. Think carefully before you speak!”
Yu Zhile immediately said, “Absolutely!”
Qin Haiyu waited for a few seconds, then pouted at her husband, “Why does it take so long to think?”
Yu Zhile was confused. “Huh? Think about what?”
Qin Haiyu looked utterly exasperated, enunciating each word, “Reorganize your answer!”
Yu Zhile replied, “I’ve already reorganized it and said it just now!”
“???” Qin Haiyu’s face was a picture of bewildered innocence. Yu Zhile felt an urge to cup her cheeks and give her a playful nibble.
He scooted over, wrapped his right arm around Qin Haiyu’s slender waist, pulling her into his embrace, and laughed, “I used to not believe that pregnancy makes you silly for three years, but now I do!”
“How am I silly!” Qin Haiyu slapped Yu Zhile’s thigh, annoyed.
Yu Zhile chuckled, “Earlier you asked if I have so much confidence in you. Then I reorganized my answer and replied ‘Absolutely!’ So, my silly wife, have you figured it out now?”
“…” Qin Haiyu rolled her eyes. She was about to protest that it didn’t count, but his hand around her waist started misbehaving again!
She snorted coldly and slipped away, saying, “All you do is bully me! I’m not talking to you anymore—I’m going to check on the baby!”
Yu Zhile wasn’t about to let her escape so easily. “The baby just fell asleep; no rush to check. But I’m rather anxious now—I have a billion-dollar deal to discuss with you!”
Qin Haiyu’s curiosity was piqued. “What kind of deal is worth so much?”
Yu Zhile leaned in and whispered four words in her ear, prompting Qin Haiyu to slap his arm in disgust, then give up resisting and choose to cooperate.
Afterwards, Yu Zhile suddenly asked, “Honey, when are you planning to have a second child?”
Qin Haiyu, radiant and charming, lay on Yu Zhile’s thigh watching TV. “When the baby turns one, I suppose. But lately it’s been frequent, and we haven’t always taken precautions. Maybe I’ll be pregnant again in a few days…”
She touched her belly and blinked at him. “Honey, what if the second child is a girl?”
Yu Zhile stroked her hair. “That would be even better! Girls are sweet and adorable. I love daughters, not sons!”
Qin Haiyu protested, “Honey, you’ve changed! You used to say you’d love either, boy or girl!”
Yu Zhile explained, “Ahem, it’s just that the baby is so cute—I have no resistance to daughters now!”
Qin Haiyu suddenly worried, “Your parents want a grandson. If the second child is a girl, will they be upset?”
“Don’t worry, they won’t!” Yu Zhile said. “Didn’t you see how much Mom adores the baby?”
Qin Haiyu prayed, “I hope the second is a boy. That way, a daughter and a son—perfect.”
Yu Zhile continued stroking her hair. As the latest episode of “I’m a Singer” played halfway through, he said, “Honey, I’ve prepared a song for you. When you’re voted back in and get to the finals, sing this. Even if you don’t win, it’ll be a hit, just like ‘Little Luck’!”
Qin Haiyu’s face lit up with joy. She lay on his thigh and asked, “Honey, you wrote a new song?”
“Yes.” Yu Zhile nodded.
Qin Haiyu was filled with anticipation and curiosity. “Is it as good as ‘Little Luck’?”
“It’s got to be!” Yu Zhile said. “And this song suits your voice and image perfectly!”
Qin Haiyu couldn’t wait. “Honey, sing it for me!”
Yu Zhile turned the TV down and began singing softly:
“The evening breeze sways the bamboo grove,
Moonlight stretches out the shadows,
Fireflies flicker and twinkle,
Coins dance across the mountain…”
Qin Haiyu suddenly laughed, “Honey, how did your singing get so awful?”
Yu Zhile retorted, “Awful, is it? Then I won’t sing!”
Qin Haiyu quickly said, “Honey, I was wrong—I shouldn’t have spoken the truth with my eyes open! Keep singing, please! Next time I’ll definitely praise your singing!”
Yu Zhile pinched Qin Haiyu’s cheek, amused. Looking at her beautiful face resting on his thigh, he continued singing:
“The Milky Way glimmers above,
Wind chimes sing below,
The Weaver Star shines afar,
An ancient, romantic legend.
Water flows past,
Through the changing seasons,
Happiness spreads,
Loving you, forever not alone!”
At the line “Loving you, forever not alone,” Qin Haiyu’s exquisite face bloomed with happiness.
She gazed at Yu Zhile with deep affection, which made him nervous as he reached the song’s climax. To be fair, this was the first time he’d sung such a candid love song for her.
“Lovers hold sakura grass in their hands,
Spring strolls with a smiling glance,
We’ve planted blazing youthful blossoms,
Lovers embrace sakura grass close,
Hear the heart beating in the chest,
Secretly longing,
That’s the mark of our love…”
After two rounds, Qin Haiyu realized she was already in love with this song.
It was obvious from the lyrics that her husband had written it just for her—their sweet, happy love story.
Unlike “Little Luck,” which she liked but was a bittersweet love song written for readers, not her.
By contrast, she adored this new song!
When Yu Zhile finished, she asked excitedly, “Honey, what’s this song called?”
Yu Zhile asked, “What do you think would be a good name?”
Qin Haiyu sang, “Lovers embrace sakura grass close, hear the heart beating in the chest… Why not call it ‘Sakura Grass’?”
Yu Zhile smiled, “Alright, as you wish, my lady!”
Qin Haiyu giggled, “Hehe, ‘Sakura Grass,’ ‘Sakura Grass!’ What a great name—I’m so talented!”
“…” Yu Zhile was utterly defeated by his theatrical wife, and the two continued watching “I’m a Singer”…
And so, a month passed just like that.
After its recent revamp, “I’m a Singer” saw a notable rise in ratings and viewership, especially in its reputation scores, which had improved considerably of late.
Now, before the finals arrived, the last challenger successfully advanced!
The eliminated singers would soon enter the highly anticipated revival round, with three days of nationwide text voting, as countless viewers eagerly awaited their return.
