Chapter 78: Another World
Emilia walked over swiftly, casting a slightly dissatisfied glance at Xia Yan. Xia Yan felt rather awkward under her gaze, not knowing what to say.
After a moment of hesitation, Xia Yan finally removed the Chain of Purity and handed it to Emilia.
"Junk," Emilia casually took it and tossed it onto the ground. "Accessories like this are ten a penny in other worlds. They hold practically no value."
"Back when I wanted to save Ding Li and desperately needed to scrape together two million credits, that amounted to about one or two diamond currency units," Xia Yan said, picking the Chain of Purity up from the dirt and tucking it into his pocket. "Even if this thing isn't worth a king's ransom, it's still worth at least tens of millions of credits!"
"Xia Yan," Emilia spoke up.
"Yes?" Xia Yan responded.
"Now, I'll give you five minutes to contact my butler, Wei Wei!" Emilia said in a commanding tone.
"Contact her for what?" Xia Yan asked, puzzled.
"Don't ask questions." Emilia let out a soft huff, then tossed over a ring—a dazzling ring that was easily tens of thousands of times more beautiful than any diamond ring. It was enough to make anyone marvel that such a breathtaking piece of craftsmanship could exist in the world.
Yet, this ring simply landed on the ground, mingling with the soil and weeds.
Xia Yan picked up the ring, a slightly peculiar expression on his face.
"Put it on. Then contact Wei Wei," Emilia instructed again.
"Alright... I just hope you aren't playing a trick on me." The moment Xia Yan slipped the ring onto his finger, his expression shifted entirely.
This wasn't some piece of technology from the Earth Federation; it was the product of another world. Furthermore, this was a spatial ring!
And even more important were the contents inside.
Various technological artifacts, furniture, chairs, beds, and so on.
A large assortment of emergency rations, black tea leaves, bizarre high-end delicacies, and countless other items.
This spatial ring was packed to the brim with things, practically functioning as a miscellaneous warehouse.
"Xia Yan, hurry up and contact Wei Wei!" Emilia was growing impatient, her eyes flashing with a faint purple hue.
"Why should I contact her?" Xia Yan asked in bewilderment.
"Are you a pig?!" Emilia's eyes turned a deeper shade of purple. "To have her tell you my preferences, of course! Starting today, you are responsible for taking care of my daily life. You must treat me as your master!"
Xia Yan felt a row of black lines cross his forehead, but he still dialed Wei Wei's communicator.
"Xia Yan!" Wei Wei's voice snapped over the line, practically roaring in anxiety. "You listen to me and remember this—don't you dare forget a single word! My lady is accustomed to waking up after nine in the morning. Breakfast is black tea served with Western-style food and eggs. She requires a two-hour rest period in the afternoon, followed by more black tea. Aside from sleeping time, her daily rest intervals are four hours total, specifically in the morning—remember, you are not to disturb her casually! In addition, her evening entertainment consists of—"
Cold sweat beaded on Xia Yan's forehead!
What on earth was this?! What kind of situation had he fallen into?!
"Did you get all that?!" Wei Wei rattled off a massive stream of information that made Xia Yan's head spin. There was no way he could remember it all.
"Could you... perhaps repeat that?" Xia Yan said, looking sheepish.
"Fine, I'll say it one more time, and you better not forget it!" Annoyed, Wei Wei repeated the entire speech from the beginning, until Xia Yan felt completely dizzy and disoriented.
After hanging up the communication link, Xia Yan asked in confusion, "Emilia, where exactly are we going?"
"To another world." Emilia's reply was brief.
"Another world?"
Such a nonsensical statement easily made one wonder if they were heading to the realm of the dead!
"Xia Yan, if you want to survive, you only have one option. Miracles don't exist in this world, but they still exist in another," Emilia said casually, picking up the Chain of Purity. "The other world that produced this accessory still has a way to make your strength rival that of Lilin within two months."
"It's all so hard to believe," Xia Yan said with a strange look in his eyes.
"There's nothing hard to believe about it. The world is full of wonders; the shattering of space was no accident, and the birth of demons is caused by negative emotions pooling in the cracks between realms," Emilia said in a flat tone. "If you truly pull this off, Asa will likely regret it later. After all, he's throwing away his chance to kill you now!"
Xia Yan was startled, a look of incomprehension crossing his face.
He felt that no one in this world could help him, and he had no right to ask anyone to. What they were discussing transcended the boundaries of a mere miracle.
Yet, at this very moment, someone was still standing by his side.
Telling him, right to his face, that she would give Asa a resounding slap in the face!
Making him regret it for the rest of his days!
"But I..." Xia Yan didn't know what to say. Emilia didn't owe him anything; on the contrary, perhaps he owed her even more.
"Can't offer an equivalent reward, is that it?" Emilia smiled faintly. "Xia Yan, you owe me too much—you could never hope to pay it back anyway! Saving a person like you, who might turn around and point their blade at us in the future... how truly foolish of me. But before I change my mind, hurry up and let's go."
"Th—" Xia Yan's voice cut off abruptly. He ultimately decided against saying thank you, because those two words carried no real meaning.
If she went to all this trouble and he merely responded with a couple of polite words, wouldn't that make him far too despicable?
"Xia Yan, since you owe me so much, you aren't allowed to betray me ever again." Emilia bit her lip gently, her eyes slightly red and swollen as she stammered, "And... and you kissed me once. So, you owe me far, far too much—too much to even count. Mmm... your very life belongs to me now."
Xia Yan recalled that kiss from the past. Perhaps it hadn't been an accident after all!
He could only respond to all of this with a wry smile.
"Alright, Xia Yan, let's go." Emilia extended her hand.
Xia Yan reached out and grasped it. Her hand was small and delicate, just like that of any ordinary girl, showing no hint of formidable power whatsoever.
The space before them was torn directly open. She lifted her foot and stepped right through. Xia Yan followed closely behind, her hand holding his as they plunged into the rift between time and space.
Amidst the gap between the two worlds, Xia Yan caught sight of her eyes, pools of endlessly deep and gentle radiance that made it impossible to look away.
He felt utterly despicable. He had never intended to offer much in return, yet he constantly yearged for recompense. He owed so much, yet he still harbored thoughts of prioritizing his own freedom.
If he wasn't despicable, why hadn't he rejected her? Why hadn't he just died alone? Why on earth was he stepping into another world by her side right now?
Xia Yan had once wondered: if the entire world abandoned him, but a single person remained standing resolutely behind him, holding onto the slimmest shred of possibility—
Would his sealed-off heart finally open up?
He didn't know. He had no clue at all.
He only knew that he felt profoundly cowardly.
