Chapter 112: Consider It a Service to Women Everywhere
The moment Song Kai saw Wu Hongying’s expression, he knew she must recognize the Blood Night assassins.
“What exactly is going on?” Song Kai asked.
Wu Hongying thought for a moment before saying, “If nothing unexpected happens, there’s a ninety percent chance you’re going to die.”
“Huh?” Song Kai stared at her.
With her hands clasped behind her back, Wu Hongying said, “Blood Night is the name of an assassin group. It used to consist of two people: Blood Venom and Night Ghost. Blood Venom specializes in poisoning, while Night Ghost is skilled in all sorts of underhanded methods. I don’t have much information on them. About fifteen years ago, Blood Night offended some major family and was threatened. They paid a huge sum in compensation and promised not to commit crimes in our country. For the past fifteen years, they’ve lived here, but all the jobs they accepted were overseas. The foreign police have always found them a headache, but they’ve never managed to catch them. And now, the Blood Night assassins have gained another member who specializes in disguises. Their methods of killing are varied and impossible to guard against, so…” She clicked her tongue.
Song Kai was somewhat dumbfounded. He looked up at Wu Hongying.
Wu Hongying yawned and said, “Come on. It’s getting late. I’ll take you home.”
“Then… all right.”
An electric scooter was parked outside.
Wu Hongying climbed onto it.
Song Kai looked at the scooter and was speechless. “Well, Sister Ying, leaving the assassins aside for now, what happened to this scooter? How did it become so shabby?”
“Damn you. Isn’t this all because of you? You wrecked two motorcycles in a row, so the bureau refuses to assign me another one. Get on—and you still have the nerve to complain!”
Song Kai climbed on behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist.
“Keep your hands to yourself!” Wu Hongying said as she rode the electric scooter toward Kowloon Bay Residential Compound with Song Kai.
Song Kai muttered, “I’m practically a dead man already. Can’t I put my arms around your waist once?”
“No! You bastard, put your hands on my shoulders!”
Wu Hongying was thoroughly exasperated. This fellow would use any excuse imaginable to take advantage of her.
Song Kai had no choice but to rest his hands on her shoulders.
…
In a garden five hundred meters from the police station, someone stood inside a dark holly hedge, smoking.
The ember at the tip of the cigarette glowed and dimmed, giving the scene an eerie air.
Before long, an ordinary minibus pulled up.
A middle-aged man jumped out.
His name was Wang Fei. He was somewhat well known in Tengyun City and was especially skilled at picking locks and ransacking rooms.
Wang Fei walked over and bowed to the man. “Daoist, why did you summon me?”
Saint Ruins glanced at Wang Fei. He looked down on petty thieves like him, but this particular problem was suited to no one else.
At the very least, Wang Fei knew how to keep his mouth shut.
Saint Ruins said, “You owed me a favor once. Help me this time, and we’ll be even after it’s done. I’ll also give you one million.”
Wang Fei laughed. “Daoist, you’re insulting me. It’s my honor to serve you. How could I possibly ask for money? Just tell me what you need.”
Daoist Saint Ruins did not smile. He pointed toward the police station. “The leader of Sky Roar Hall, Yang Tianxiao, has been arrested.”
“Huh? For what?” Wang Fei asked. “Yang Tianxiao’s hands are clean.”
“Why he was arrested isn’t important.” Saint Ruins waved his hand. “Yang Tianxiao knows some things about me. I suspect the police deliberately set a trap this time. After arresting him, they’ll probably try to force my whereabouts out of him. So, find an opportunity tonight and kill him. I’ll give you one million. And if you want Sky Roar Hall, I’ll help you take it.”
Wang Fei froze. He truly had not expected such a good opportunity to fall into his lap.
As for the one million, though Wang Fei drove a battered minibus, he was not short of money. But the moment he heard that he could become the leader of Sky Roar Hall, he grew intensely excited.
“Yes, Daoist. I will never let your cultivation of me go to waste!” Wang Fei said.
Saint Ruins reached out and patted him on the shoulder. “Have it done before dawn tomorrow. Can you manage that?”
Wang Fei thought it over. “I’ll need to plan carefully. After all, this means making a move inside a police station.”
“Take your time.” Saint Ruins handed him a cigar. “Smoke it. This is the kind of tobacco money can’t buy.”
Wang Fei gave a delighted, flattered chuckle. After taking a few puffs, he fell into thought. Before long, an idea came to him.
…
Song Kai rode the electric scooter home.
The police station was a little over three kilometers from Kowloon Bay Residential Compound, so traveling by scooter was quite convenient.
After entering the house, Song Kai returned to his bedroom and sat on the bed, deep in thought.
Judging from Wu Hongying’s reaction, this Blood Night was no ordinary assassin group.
Moreover, a group that habitually killed people overseas had come after him this time. It seemed Ding Zhe was absolutely determined to eliminate him.
After thinking seriously for half an hour, Song Kai finally made up his mind. He pulled out his knockoff phone and called Danlina.
Danlina seemed to have been asleep and answered groggily.
“Hey, darling Danlina, stop sleeping.” Song Kai had recently begun calling her “darling” too, imitating her.
“What is it? Do it, then go to sleep. That’s your Huaxia tradition.” Danlina’s voice was hazy with drowsiness.
Song Kai nearly choked when he heard that.
Feeling a little embarrassed, he said, “Well, Danlina, we Huaxia people are rather conservative. ‘Do it, then go to sleep’ definitely wasn’t something the ancient Huaxia people said. Maybe it was the Japanese.”
Danlina argued, “Of course it was your ancient people who said it. ‘Do it, then sleep; do it well, then rise.’ Isn’t that right?”
Those words made Song Kai’s heart itch. Whoever had come up with such a saying certainly could not have been single. How could a single man have said something so philosophical?
Wait. No, that wasn’t right.
Song Kai suddenly understood, and he burst into laughter.
“What the hell are you laughing at?” Danlina scolded. “Your ancient people said it.”
Song Kai quickly said, “Yes, yes, they did—but what they actually said was, ‘Work at sunrise and rest at sunset.’ It wasn’t ‘do it, then sleep; do it well, then rise.’”
Danlina fell silent.
Remembering that he had called her for something important, Song Kai hurriedly said, “Oh, Danlina, I won’t make fun of your idioms anymore. I wanted to ask if you know the Blood Night assassins.”
“Of course I do!” Danlina replied at once. “They’re an evil group of Huaxia assassins who specialize in murdering kind old nobles and scientists. They’re on the international police’s red wanted list. Unfortunately, several attempts to capture them have failed. Why?”
Song Kai relaxed when he heard that. “Oh. There’s a chance to catch them now. Are you willing to cooperate with me?”
“Of course! Wow, darling Song, can you really catch them?” Danlina asked.
Song Kai thought for a moment. “It’s possible. In any case, we can give it a try. Come pick me up tomorrow outside Galaxy Supermarket. We’ll work out a plan together. If we catch them, the credit will go to your people. How does that sound?”
“You’re too kind,” Danlina said immediately. “You provided the information on the Vulture Mercenary Group last time, and we received a substantial reward. If we capture Blood Night this time as well, Captain Okamoto and I will both be promoted.”
Song Kai laughed. “All right, then. Come pick me up at nine tomorrow. Goodbye—and go to sleep after you’re done.”
“Fine. Then tomorrow we’ll get up after we’re done,” Danlina replied.
Song Kai laughed heartily and hung up.
After speaking with Danlina, Song Kai finally let out a sigh of relief.
With the cooperation of the international police, dealing with those damned Blood Night assassins should be fairly easy.
From what Wu Hongying had said, Blood Night should consist of three people: one responsible for disguises, with Blood Venom and Night Ghost serving as the main forces.
As for the name Night Ghost, it sounded as though he relied on sinister ghosts to kill people. That was something Song Kai had no reason to fear.
As for Blood Venom, Song Kai simply needed to be cautious.
Besides, his greatest advantage was that his enemies would underestimate him.
The Blood Night assassins probably had no idea of his true strength, much less expected that the international police would be waiting nearby.
Therefore, his chances of winning this time were extremely high.
With that thought, Song Kai felt the weight in his heart lift and walked out of the bedroom.
Tang Ying was not watching television tonight. Instead, she sat on the sofa in her pajamas, her face filled with worry.
When she saw Song Kai emerge, she waved him over. “Song Kai, come here.”
“What’s wrong?” Song Kai asked, puzzled by her expression.
Tang Ying looked at him and said, “Why don’t you leave town and hide for a while? Your grades are terrible anyway, and you probably won’t get into any university. I have a relative who runs a clinic in Yanjing. You could go work there. Your medical skills are so good that you’d have no trouble making a fine living.”
Song Kai scratched his head. “Sister Tang Ying, did you get a fever tonight? What are you babbling about? I’m perfectly fine. Why would I go somewhere else?”
Tang Ying pulled him down onto the sofa. “Song Kai, don’t put on a brave face. Do you understand?”
Song Kai nodded, feeling touched. He smiled and said, “Don’t worry, Sister Tang Ying. It’s only an assassin group. I don’t take them seriously. Right now, my eyes hold only you—and your…”
He swallowed.
Tang Ying had a habit of not wearing a bra. It was a very good habit indeed…
Tang Ying gave him a helpless, bitter smile and poked him in the forehead. “You’re about to die, and you’re still acting like a lecher.”
“Since I’m about to die anyway, Sister Tang Ying, could you just take off your pajamas and let me enjoy the view before I go? Please.”
Song Kai placed a hand on Tang Ying’s pale, shapely thigh and spoke in a low voice.
Tang Ying froze, then abruptly shoved Song Kai away. “Forget it. I’m going to bed. I’d rather let the assassins kill you. At least that would rid the world of one more menace to women…”
