As Song Kai walked, he became certain that something was definitely wrong with this woman.

The yin energy here was dense, making it easy to set up a ghost-repelling formation. Mao Ke'er held Song Kai's hand and walked a few paces.

"Oh, Song Kai, I have to go to the bathroom," Mao Ke'er said, clutching her stomach. "Could you... could you wait for me here for a moment?"

Song Kai nodded. "Sister, do you want me to keep you company?"

"No need. Don't move around, and don't follow me," Mao Ke'er said before disappearing behind a large tree.

Song Kai stood there, waiting. Although he feared Blood Poison, he felt no fear in this situation. As he pondered, a sudden gust of cold wind blew, and several wisps of ghostly energy surged into his body. An icy sensation washed over him.

Song Kai let out a sharp cry, hopped a few times, and then collapsed to the ground with a thud. As for the ghostly spirits that had entered his body, they were instantly shattered by the lightning-infused internal energy circulating through his meridians.

Song Kai lay there for five minutes.

Mao Ke'er emerged slowly. Song Kai squinted, watching her movements. She walked over to him, called his name twice, and then tested his breath. Song Kai held his breath. She then checked his carotid artery, which is connected to the heart. Song Kai hurriedly used his internal energy to suppress his heartbeat.

After a moment, Mao Ke'er tapped her earpiece and whispered, "Mission accomplished."

"Are you sure?" Blood Poison's voice came through. "Check his carotid artery again. Remember, verify if the heart is still beating; do not rely on breath alone."

"Understood, Boss Blood."

Mao Ke'er checked his neck again. "Boss, it's confirmed. No issues."

"Good. Night Ghost, dismantle the formation. I'll meet you at the intersection," Blood Poison ordered.

"Understood."

A thin, frail man emerged from the darkness and dismantled the surrounding formation. He approached Song Kai, holding a tiny clay jar, and waved it over him. Nothing happened.

"Huh?" Night Ghost sounded puzzled.

"What is it?" Blood Poison, who was walking toward them, stopped in his tracks upon hearing Night Ghost.

"The little ghosts I raised are gone," Night Ghost muttered. "This shouldn't be happening; I can't even sense their presence anymore."

Song Kai realized things were about to go south. Even though Blood Poison hadn't arrived yet, he couldn't wait any longer. Song Kai suddenly kicked Night Ghost in the stomach and spoke into his earpiece to Dan Lina: "Move in! Find Blood Poison; he's nearby."

Dan Lina immediately issued the command. Song Kai said quickly, "Leave Night Ghost and this woman to me. You guys go after Blood Poison—he’s the leader."

Several officers from the criminal police team sprinted toward the intersection. Blood Poison turned and fled.

*Tat-tat-tat...*

A few sounds echoed. Suddenly, powerful high beams illuminated the surroundings for a hundred meters. Blood Poison’s figure was clearly caught in the spotlight. Realizing he was trapped, he rolled twice and dove into a nearby dirt pit.

*Bang! Bang! Bang!*

Three sniper shots rang out. Dirt flew as the heavy bullets gouged three large craters in the ground. Mao Ke'er screamed and rushed toward Blood Poison’s location. Song Kai glanced at her; she was just an ordinary person, so he ignored her and lunged at Night Ghost.

Night Ghost ripped off his shirt, revealing pale skin with a mass of black energy churning in his chest.

"Nurturing ghosts with your own body? Impossible. How are you still alive?" Song Kai frowned at him.

Night Ghost glared back. "Who are you? Why were you unaffected when my ghost slaves entered your body?"

Song Kai smiled. "Because I'm a Taoist. Night Ghost, you've been betrayed by Ding Zhe. If you tell me where he is, I might spare you."

A sneer appeared on Night Ghost’s pale face. "Spare me? You won't kill me, but I will kill you! As for Ding Zhe, I will find a way to track him down and kill both him and the Saint Ruins!"

As he spoke, the black ghost in his chest burst forth. The spirit took the form of a shadowy figure, mouth agape, and lunged at Song Kai. Song Kai was speechless. This ghost looked fierce and large, but it was pathetic—it didn't even qualify as a malicious spirit! The more powerful a ghost, the more human-like it appeared. This thing was just a blob of raw soul energy.

Song Kai stepped forward, pulled out a talisman, and slapped it onto the spirit. With a crackle of lightning, the spirit was blasted into nothingness.

Song Kai looked at Night Ghost. Night Ghost backed away slowly, then turned and bolted. Song Kai pulled out his pistol and fired a shot into Night Ghost’s leg. Night Ghost collapsed, but strangely, no blood flowed out.

"Don't bother trying to escape. Honestly, these supernatural parlor tricks of yours are nothing to me," Song Kai said, walking over with his gun.

Night Ghost lay on the ground, gasping for air. Suddenly, he looked up. His once pale eyes had turned blood-red. He grinned, letting out a laughter that sounded eerie in the dark night.

"Damn it!"

Song Kai didn't dare to be careless. He raised his pistol and fired at Night Ghost’s chest.

*Bang!*

*Bang, bang, bang!*

Four consecutive shots hit Night Ghost in the chest and neck.

"Ignorant human!" Night Ghost suddenly spoke in fluent English.

Song Kai was stunned. *What the hell is going on?*

Before he could react, Night Ghost lunged at him with terrifying speed, flapping his arms like a winged hen. Realizing the danger, Song Kai pulled out a ghost-repelling talisman and tossed it at Night Ghost’s hand.

*Poof!* The talisman burst into flames.

Night Ghost’s arm caught fire, but he simply waved it away, extinguishing the flames. He continued to charge. Song Kai retreated, and in a critical moment, fired three more shots at Night Ghost’s forehead.

His magazine was empty. Fortunately, the shots had an effect. Night Ghost froze, his head bleeding, standing perfectly still. Seizing the opportunity, Song Kai swiftly reloaded, his gun aimed directly at Night Ghost’s head.

...

Elsewhere, Dan Lina and her team were closing in on Blood Poison, who remained pinned in the dirt pit by snipers.

"No! Don't!" Mao Ke'er screamed, running toward the pit.

"Stop, or we will open fire!" Dan Lina shouted through a megaphone.

Mao Ke'er ignored her, running frantically toward the pit.

*Bang!*

A shot rang out. Mao Ke'er stumbled, her leg bleeding profusely. Yet, she didn't stop, driven by an inhuman will.

"Blood Poison, Boss Blood... I'll cover you, you... you get ready to escape," she cried out.

Blood Poison pulled out his pistol. Not daring to show his head, he fired blindly into the darkness and shouted to Mao Ke'er, "Faster! Hurry, only ten meters left!"

Mao Ke'er nodded. Another shot rang out. Both of her legs were hit, and she collapsed to the ground, crawling toward the pit.

"One more meter... Now!" Blood Poison cheered excitedly.

Mao Ke'er suddenly untied her dress. It fluttered up, forming a large white curtain. Under the cover of this makeshift screen, Blood Poison leapt from the pit and sprinted into the distance. He didn't even spare a glance for the half-naked Mao Ke'er on the ground or the Night Ghost left behind.

Seeing the heartless Blood Poison flee, a smile appeared on Mao Ke'er’s face, tears streaming from her eyes. "So, he never really loved me after all... that's... that's good..." she whispered before collapsing, her breathing stopping.

Dan Lina and her team pursued Blood Poison while calling for reinforcements. Passing by Mao Ke'er’s body, Dan Lina sighed. "Foolish woman, why bother?"

Dan Lina felt a tightness in her chest, fueled by growing hatred. She spoke into her radio: "Captain, Blood Poison is fleeing. Coordinates 351, 223, heading south. Intercept him."

"Copy that."

Soon, several Land Rovers roared toward the scene. As Blood Poison fled, he frantically called Ding Zhe, but the phone went unanswered. Finally, the number became disconnected. Blood Poison’s heart turned cold; he knew he was doomed.

Meanwhile, in a building in the darkness, a man stood by a window, watching the approaching Interpol vehicles with a mocking smile on his face.
