Chapter 130: The Agent Who Suddenly Vanished

Danilina picked up the flashlight and walked over to Song Kai.

"Why are there candles here?" Danilina asked. She then stared at the candy in Song Kai's hand, took it, and gave it a sniff.

Danilina was somewhat familiar with this scent. She frowned and said, "It’s narcotics, though unrefined. The effects are similar to ecstasy. These people are really something; they’re actually using such large shipping containers to transport drugs. Well, let’s go. We can leave the rest to poor Desna. It looks like she won’t be getting any sleep tonight."

Song Kai shrugged and pointed at the candles, saying speechlessly, "Bright red candles—in China, we use these for weddings. It’s bad enough these people are smuggling human beings and narcotics, but they’re also smuggling candles on the side. Does that count as tax evasion?"

Danilina yawned and replied, "Don’t waste your time guessing. Leave it to the FBI agents; they’ll be more than happy to take over."

Song Kai nodded at Danilina, and the two climbed down from the shipping container one after the other.

Below, Geda was busy trying to charm Desna, looking restless.

Danilina jumped down, pushed Geda aside, and said, "Do you want to go up and take a look? It seems you won’t be sleeping tonight. The container is full of smuggled girls and quite a lot of drugs."

Upon hearing this, Desna immediately made a call to report the situation.

Song Kai felt a bit embarrassed and said with a smile, "Oh, Desna, I’m truly sorry for keeping you up all night."

Desna stepped forward and suddenly hugged Song Kai, pressing her ample chest against his. "I should be thanking you! It’s usually quite difficult for someone like me to earn a promotion, but you’ve just handed me an opportunity to distinguish myself."

"Really? Then I’m relieved."

The group laughed.

Before long, a police car marked "FBI" arrived.

Desna stepped forward to report, and the officer nodded, stating that unauthorized personnel needed to leave as the FBI was taking over the scene.

Song Kai felt no further interest, so he, Danilina, and Xu Ling got into their car and left.

Geda, as the manager of the pier, remained by Desna’s side to help coordinate the containers, taking the opportunity to continue buttering her up.

In the car, Danilina yawned and said, "Song Kai, Xu Ling, I’ll take you to stay in a sea-view room today—a presidential suite. We might as well take the chance to get a good night’s sleep."

Song Kai laughed. "Really? Danilina, you’re very generous."

"Of course. Who knows, I might need your help in the future," Danilina giggled. She drove off quickly, heading toward a super-luxury hotel in the distance.

Upon entering the hotel, Danilina bypassed the front desk and led Song Kai and Xu Ling straight to the top floor.

"Wait, did you book this in advance?" Song Kai asked, looking at Danilina curiously in the elevator.

Danilina smiled and said, "Well, I’ll be honest with you. This room is actually one that our Interpol team rents permanently. You could say that every major city has rooms like this specifically for our business trips. Oh, of course, you have to be at a certain rank to use them."

Song Kai understood. "It seems your profession isn't bad at all. While your authority might be limited, at least the perks are good."

"That’s true," Danilina nodded. "Overall, our organization is just flush with cash and nowhere to spend it! Plus, black money is incredibly easy to come by. Whenever we’re short on funds, we just have a little chat with some international money-laundering tycoons, and to avoid trouble, they immediately wire us a sum."

Song Kai gave her a thumbs-up.

Danilina pushed open the door to a presidential suite and said, "Also, I used to be a squad leader in the mercenary crime division of Interpol and didn't have the authority to use this room. But previously, in your Tengyun City, because I helped capture the Vulture Mercenary Group and wiped out the Blood Night Killer Squad, I earned some merit. Plus, after the last incident where my entire team died—including Captain Okamoto Jiro—my promotion was only natural."

Song Kai collapsed onto the soft sofa and said, "So, you were promoted when you returned to headquarters?"

"Yes," Danilina said. "I’ve replaced Okamoto Jiro’s position and even moved up a bit. I am now a supervisor in the mercenary investigation department under Interpol. My authority has increased significantly."

Song Kai chuckled. "It seems I’m your lucky charm."

Danilina smiled, but then a hint of pain crossed her face. "My promotion was built on the premise that all my comrades died, so honestly, I feel I don't deserve it. Once I finish handing over my current work, I’m going to take a team back to your Tengyun City. I won’t rest until I catch Ding Zhe and his gang."

"Good, we’ll fight side by side when the time comes," Song Kai said.

Xu Ling was walking around the room, her eyes scanning every corner.

"What are you doing, Sister Xu Ling?" Danilina asked.

"I’m just checking for hidden cameras or listening devices," Xu Ling said. "My eyes are very sharp, so I’m just checking for safety."

Song Kai immediately added, "I agree. My wife's sister's eyesight is much sharper than I ever imagined."

Danilina shrugged and said, "You can keep checking, but I can responsibly say that this room is perfectly fine. It’s an Interpol safe house, and it’s absolutely secure. You two don’t need to worry about that gang coming after you anymore. Alright, I’m going to sleep."

Danilina yawned, went into a side room, and was asleep in no time.

After checking the room and finding nothing, Xu Ling said to Song Kai, "I’m going to sleep too; I’m exhausted. You just sleep on the sofa."

Song Kai had no choice but to agree.

The suite had two beds and a sofa, but whether it was the beds or the sofa, they were all oversized and incredibly comfortable.

Soon, even Song Kai drifted into a deep sleep...

The next day, Song Kai opened his eyes.

Sunlight was streaming in.

Song Kai got up, stretched his neck, and stood by the window to look out.

It was indeed a sea-view room; from here, he could see the pier in the distance and the boundless ocean beyond that.

"So comfortable!" Song Kai muttered.

Xu Ling also woke up, rubbing her eyes. "Morning."

"Morning!" Song Kai greeted her.

Xu Ling nodded, but suddenly, her eyes dropped, catching sight of the bulge in Song Kai’s trousers.

She immediately turned away, muttering, "Song Kai, do you have a hormonal imbalance? Why are you always so... fired up?"

"Huh? No, Sister-in-law, listen to me, this is a normal physiological phenomenon! Really, all young men have it—it’s called morning wood! You have to believe me!" Song Kai explained.

Xu Ling slammed the bathroom door shut and went inside to wash up.

Song Kai was left speechless, feeling like he couldn't clear his name even if he jumped into the Yellow River.

The three of them showered, had breakfast, and got ready. Danilina then called Desna.

Desna’s phone went straight to voicemail.

Danilina shrugged and said, "She must be sleeping at home. Let’s go to Desna’s place, and then she and I can take you around and finish up your business. We’ll see you off at the airport today with a full escort—it’ll be absolutely safe."

Song Kai smiled, not bothering with words of thanks.

Suddenly, Song Kai realized that his friendship with Danilina had become quite profound.

The three of them drove to Desna’s home.

There was no one inside, and it appeared Desna hadn't even come home the night before.

Danilina felt a bit strange and kept calling, but Desna’s phone remained off.

"What the hell is going on? Is the container situation still not sorted out?" Danilina thought, driving straight to the pier.

The pier was calm, with no sign of police activity.

Danilina grew suspicious and went to the dispatch office to find Geda.

However, the staff in the office said Geda hadn't shown up for work since leaving the night before, and they couldn't reach him either; his phone was also off.

At first, Song Kai hadn't paid much attention, but once he realized Geda was also missing, he immediately sensed a problem.

"Go to Desna’s workplace," Song Kai said. "Let’s go, fast."

Danilina became anxious, too, and immediately drove Song Kai and Xu Ling straight to the Cambridge FBI office.

The people in the office were just arriving for work, greeting one another.

Danilina showed her credentials and found the head of the office.
