Song Kai saw that Wu Hongying was no longer angry and breathed a slight sigh of relief. Yet, the moment he closed his eyes, the image from just moments ago flooded back to him.

Damn, she was breathtakingly beautiful!

Is this what women truly look like?

Tang Ying held the lingerie and perfume, gently touched Song Kai’s hair, and said, “It was worth taking you in. Not bad, not bad at all. I really like the gifts you gave me.”

Song Kai chuckled softly.

Tang Ying then retreated back into the bedroom.

Song Kai took a shower and lay down on the bed, but damned if every time he closed his eyes, he couldn’t shake the image of Wu Hongying from earlier.

The visual impact was just too strong.

He couldn’t help but feel tempted to relieve himself.

But he held back.

He picked up his phone and sent a WeChat message to Xu Ling, telling her he had arrived.

Xu Ling immediately replied with a smiling emoji and said, “Dinner’s on me tonight.”

Song Kai grinned. Thinking back to their time together and all that had transpired in America, he found himself liking Xu Ling even more. Yet, she only seemed to hold a fondness for him—not love. Love was still out of the question.

Chasing after a woman was truly a difficult endeavor!

He closed WeChat and subconsciously glanced at the weather forecast.

Suddenly, Song Kai’s spirits lifted.

There would be thunderstorms in a few days.

Thunderstorms! Thunder!

He chuckled to himself. Well, it was almost summer, after all—the season when thunder ruled the skies.

Unfortunately, his current strength was too low to endure the full force of a great thunderstorm. He could only use smaller bolts of lightning to temper his body and cultivate the Nine Thunder Inner Qi.

After some thought, he realized he had to start preparing immediately. With his current level, he couldn’t just fly up into the sky to chase lightning. He needed something to draw the lightning down.

Hmm... a kite!

Right—the guy who discovered electricity, Franklin, used a kite to attract lightning!

Closing his eyes, Song Kai pondered these thoughts until the image of Wu Hongying finally faded, and soon he drifted off to sleep.

At noon, Song Kai woke up.

The house was empty.

He went downstairs and ate a bowl of beef noodles, then set out to gather materials. He planned to make a massive kite from cowhide paper, and the string had to be copper wire.

After a busy afternoon, Xu Ling called in the evening, asking if he was free.

Of course, he was.

She invited him out to dinner.

Song Kai laughed softly and said, “Alright, tonight I’ll take you out for lobster and draft beer.”

Xu Ling laughed in agreement.

He quickly changed into his most handsome clothes, got in his car, and drove straight to Xu Ling’s home.

Xu Ling seldom went to the office these days.

Arriving at the neighborhood, Song Kai felt a bit guilty, like a thief—after all, Xu Haitan, that old bastard, lived nearby.

He stopped the car just as Xu Ling, dressed in a pink tracksuit, came running over and hopped in.

The soft fabric of the tracksuit perfectly outlined Xu Ling’s figure, almost excessively alluring.

She had simply tied her hair into a ponytail. Buckling her seatbelt, she turned to find Song Kai staring at her like a lecherous wolf, drooling.

Xu Ling rolled her eyes and pushed his head gently. “Drive already, idiot.”

“Ah? Oh.” Song Kai chuckled and started driving. “Xu Ling, you’re really beautiful.”

She sighed. “Song Kai, your shamelessness just keeps growing.”

He laughed and said, “Well, my dear wife, after dinner tonight, how about we watch a movie? ‘Wolf Warrior’—I heard it’s really good.”

Xu Ling considered for a moment, then nodded, “Alright then.”

Song Kai clenched his fist excitedly. This was a rare chance! Damn, he had to seize it!

Trips to America really paid off—now she even agreed to watch a movie with him.

At the cinema, holding hands, wrapping an arm around her waist—it would be effortless.

The corners of his mouth stretched into a wide grin.

Near Crown Cinema was a famous street lined with food stalls.

In winter, it was filled with vendors selling dog meat and mutton hotpot.

In summer, when the weather heated up, it transformed into a barbecue street.

Both inside and outside the shops, crowds gathered. This street was undoubtedly well-known.

Song Kai parked at the street entrance and led Xu Ling inside.

Tables lined the sidewalk, many patrons shirtless, drinking draft beer and chatting boisterously.

Xu Ling leaned close and said, “I’ve never been here before. I heard it can get a bit rough—there are often fights.”

Song Kai nodded. “True, but the food is really good. Much better than those fancy restaurants.”

Xu Ling smiled. “Okay, but I’d only dare come here with you.”

Hearing that, Song Kai’s heart melted. He gently took her hand. “Of course. I must protect you, my dear wife.”

Xu Ling tapped his shoulder and withdrew her hand. “Let’s just go to that one—it looks the cleanest.”

“Alright.”

They entered a stall called Brother Li’s Big Food Stand.

It had tables inside and outside.

Barbecue racks outside continuously emitted enticing aromas.

Xu Ling smiled. “It really smells good. Where shall we sit?”

“Outside here,” Song Kai pointed to a table.

At that moment, a man with a towel draped over his shoulder approached. “Two people?”

“Yes, just the two of us,” Song Kai replied as he moved to sit.

The man smiled. “Please come with me. Inside, we have private rooms.”

“We’re just here for a casual meal. No need for a private room—it’s hot,” Song Kai said.

“There’s air conditioning and fans. I’m Brother Li, attentive to my guests’ needs. Please, follow me,” the man said with a grin, ushering them inside.

Song Kai felt a little irritated.

Xu Ling nodded. “Alright, we can go inside.”

Brother Li led them to a private room.

Song Kai sat down and teased, “Boss, your service seems a bit too attentive—can’t we just eat outside?”

Brother Li closed the door and whispered apologetically, “Sorry, folks. I didn’t mean to force you, but I had no choice. Please understand.”

“Why? Others eat outside just fine,” Song Kai asked, looking at him.

Brother Li chuckled and pointed to Xu Ling. “It’s because your sister-in-law here is too beautiful. Brother, please forgive me. She’s so stunning, sitting outside would attract unwanted attention. Things have been a bit rough lately—there are quite a few ruffians. I’m sure you don’t want trouble, right?”

“Ah?” Song Kai was surprised. Brother Li had taken them inside because Xu Ling was too beautiful? The term “sister-in-law” actually suited Song Kai’s feelings quite well.

He laughed heartily. “Alright, since you’re so perceptive, we’ll sit inside. Bring us a hundred lamb skewers, two plates of small lobsters, two big mugs of draft beer, and some cold dishes—make those plentiful.”

Brother Li grinned. “Got it. I’ll turn on the fan for you.”

After the boss left, Song Kai smiled at Xu Ling. “Looks like you’re dangerously beautiful—so much that even the owner doesn’t dare let you eat outside.”

Xu Ling glared. “Shut up. I think the boss is just worried his place might get wrecked.”

Soon, the beer and dishes arrived.

They began to eat.

Xu Ling nodded approvingly. “It really is good. We should come here more often.”

“Absolutely,” Song Kai said excitedly.

Midway through their meal, just as the lamb skewers and lobsters arrived, Xu Ling’s phone rang.

She answered, spoke briefly, then frowned. “Grandpa, do I have to come back now?… Alright then.”

Hanging up, she sighed. “Song Kai, I’m sorry. My grandfather sent the driver to pick me up. I can’t stay to watch the movie or eat with you.”

“Why?” Song Kai was frustrated.

Xu Ling shrugged. “Grandpa says it’s too late and this place isn’t safe. He just won’t let me go out… Never mind. I’ll toast to you. My documents and my life were saved because of you. Also, I’ve resubmitted my application materials to Yanjing University. I expect to hear back in a few days. If I go back to school, well, Song Kai, we’ll have to part ways.”

She downed half her beer.

Song Kai smiled gently. “It’s okay. We won’t be apart. There will be a next time. I’ll see you home.”

“No need. The driver will be here soon. You enjoy your meal,” Xu Ling smiled softly, breathtakingly beautiful. She touched Song Kai’s hair. “Next time, let’s come in the afternoon; then the old man can’t stop me.”

With that, she gathered her things and left.
