Chapter 051: A Night Among Close Friends—There’s Definitely Something Off About This Guy!
Song Kai didn’t dwell on it any further, and walked toward the entrance of the pharmaceutical factory.
Jia Dongming, accompanied by a few villagers, was guarding the gate tightly. When he saw Song Kai return, Jia Dongming immediately opened the gate, tears bursting from his eyes.
“Mr. Song! Thank heavens you’re back. I was scared out of my wits just now!” Jia Dongming cried, wiping his eyes.
Song Kai was at a loss. “Director Jia, honestly, of all the things you could have learned in Shanghai, you picked up being a timid, tearful little man! If you hadn’t always been so soft, you wouldn’t have let those people extort you time and again.”
“Yes, yes, you’re right.” Jia Dongming nodded repeatedly, still shaken.
Song Kai said, “I’m a bit tired today. Tomorrow I’ll go collect the money, then you can distribute the villagers’ capital. Don’t worry. I’ll be off now.”
Song Kai left Dongming Pharmaceutical and returned home.
He slept, and when he awoke, it was already evening.
Stretching lazily, Song Kai thought for a moment and then called Xu Ling.
“Xu Ling, tomorrow I’m treating you to dinner.”
“Is this about money? Fine.”
“Hehe, not about money—how about an investment?”
“Alright, tomorrow at noon. Blue Mood Restaurant. I’ll treat you.”
Song Kai quickly replied, “I have to be the one to treat you! Let’s meet at ten-thirty tomorrow morning!”
After hanging up, Song Kai chuckled to himself. This wasn’t just about asking for money; it was a chance for a date. After dinner, perhaps a movie, holding hands in the dark cinema!
Except… he seemed to have no money.
Scratching his head, Song Kai left his bedroom.
In the living room, Tang Ying and Wu Hongying were sitting across from each other on the sofa in pajamas, eating popcorn and watching “The Eternal Love.”
“This male lead isn’t handsome at all, doesn’t stir my desires,” Wu Hongying said, munching popcorn.
“The supporting cast is decent. By the way, you still have desires? Why not find a man, then?” Tang Ying, her hair loose, replied.
“I’d love to, but no man can withstand my punch. What if I start liking someone and accidentally kill him with a blow?”
Both women laughed.
Song Kai felt overwhelmed.
So this was the daily life of aging goddesses!
“Ahem!” Song Kai approached. “Sorry to disturb your show.”
Tang Ying glanced at him, tucking her legs under her nightdress.
Wu Hongying was still unconcerned, her cartoon panties peeking out beneath her nightdress.
“Well, little man, what was that with my motorcycle last time?” Wu Hongying said, already balling her fist, ready to strike.
Song Kai hurriedly explained, “Hongying, it’s really not my fault. There was an assassin after me, I had to escape. The motorcycle wasn’t sturdy enough—went down the steps and broke.”
“Hah! I’ve been holding back my anger for days. Now you’re finally back!” With that, Wu Hongying leapt from the sofa and kicked at Song Kai.
Tang Ying was stunned, quickly hugging her laptop, bracing for chaos.
But nothing happened.
Wu Hongying’s foot struck Song Kai’s chest, but he casually caught her ankle with one hand and wrapped his other arm around her waist, subduing her in a single move.
Now Wu Hongying stood on one leg, the other raised high in a perfect split, pinned by Song Kai in front of him. Her short skirt had ridden up, but her cartoon panties protected her modesty.
Wu Hongying was stunned. Though her legs couldn’t move, her fists could; she swung at Song Kai’s face.
Song Kai dodged, circling behind her, then wrapped his arms around her front and gently tossed her onto the sofa.
“Hongying, don’t be hasty. I’ll repay your motorcycle in a few days, but I need to borrow some money from you both. I have a date tomorrow,” Song Kai said.
Wu Hongying lay on the sofa, dazed.
It might have looked like play, but Wu Hongying knew she was no match for Song Kai now.
They used to be evenly matched.
How had he become so effortlessly dominant in just two days?
Damn!
Tang Ying sighed in relief. “Thank goodness you didn’t wreck the place. Anyway, I have no money. You still owe me a thousand from last time. I’m a doctor, only earn a few thousand a month, and I just paid three years’ rent in one go. I’m broke.”
Song Kai looked at Wu Hongying.
Wu Hongying glared at him. “Don’t look at me! I’m even worse off. I was supposed to get a ten-thousand bonus this month, but you destroyed my motorcycle—the best in the department. Now the bonus is gone!”
“What?” Song Kai was frustrated. “No money. How will I take my girlfriend to the movies tomorrow?”
Tang Ying laughed. “Song Kai, you’re a senior in high school. Why aren’t you studying instead of fooling around—being a Taoist, chasing girls? If you’re so desperate, let Hongying be your girlfriend. I’m telling you, if you don’t study now, you’ll regret it!”
Wu Hongying lifted Tang Ying’s nightdress. “Why don’t you be his girlfriend? Your chest is so big—the boys all like that size these days.”
“Ah! You pervert!” Tang Ying quickly covered herself.
Wu Hongying laughed heartily.
Song Kai blushed. Why did Tang Ying not wear a bra at home?
Tang Ying, a doctor, knew bras weren’t healthy, but had to wear them in the hospital. At home, she didn’t bother.
Song Kai swallowed and went over. “So… how about we watch TV together?”
“Go back to your room,” Wu Hongying and Tang Ying said in unison.
“Enjoy the view, but don’t expect to touch. Our girls’ night doesn’t involve you!” Wu Hongying chased him away.
Song Kai scratched his head and returned to his bedroom, sighing.
Damn, being broke is miserable! Even the chance to take Xu Ling to the movies tomorrow is gone!
…
On the sofa, Wu Hongying’s smile faded; she frowned.
Tang Ying nudged her. “What’s wrong? Are we watching the show or not?”
Wu Hongying whispered, “Tang Ying, there’s something off about that boy!”
“What? Just a teenager, obsessed with girls—nothing strange.”
“Not that,” Wu Hongying said seriously. “He was gone for two days, and suddenly his martial arts have soared. He’s probably already a master of the Nimble Realm! In just two days, I can’t withstand even one of his moves.”
Tang Ying was speechless. “Can we watch the show now? Stop talking about the martial arts world. We’re living in different universes…”
…
Song Kai lay on his bed, troubled. No choice now—Xu Ling would have to treat him.
Oh well!
The next day, as the appointed hour approached, Song Kai took the pharmaceutical factory documents and headed to Blue Mood Restaurant.
Blue Mood was an upscale venue, elegant and known for good food. Patrons were usually wealthy and cultured. Coal barons had money, but preferred hotel deals with escorts.
Xu Ling sat alone at table twenty-eight, sipping coffee and enjoying a rare moment of leisure.
“Oh, Xu Ling!”
A flamboyant voice called out.
Xu Ling looked up to see a tall woman, heavily made up, her outfit revealing most of her chest, beaming at her.
Xu Ling was puzzled.
The woman took off her sunglasses and said, “It’s me—Zhao Xiaozhi. Don’t you remember? We were desk-mates in high school! Xu Ling, I heard you went abroad. You didn’t tell anyone from school when you returned—so inconsiderate.”
Pulling the man beside her, Zhao Xiaozhi sat down.
Xu Ling merely nodded, not particularly excited, and said quietly, “Hello.”
Zhao Xiaozhi smiled. “Xu Ling, I heard things haven’t been going well for you. Your grandfather’s company is having problems. Oh, and didn’t he arrange a marriage for you with the Song family’s kid? I was so jealous—Song family was loaded, you’d have made it big. But then, they collapsed overnight. Xu Ling, don’t be upset—everyone faces setbacks.”
Xu Ling sipped her coffee, silent.
Zhao Xiaozhi clung to the man’s arm. “Xu Ling, you should just find a good boyfriend. You’re beautiful, you can have any man. This is my boyfriend, Zhao Bin, CEO of Triple Group. Hey, Zhao Bin, this is my old classmate, Xu Ling—our class’s famous beauty and prodigy. But being good at school doesn’t matter in the end, right? We all end up taking over the family business.”
Zhao Bin looked at Xu Ling, nearly drooling, but restrained himself in front of Zhao Xiaozhi.
He extended his hand. “Hello, Miss Xu Ling, I’ve heard a lot from Zhao Xiaozhi—her high school desk-mate is a great beauty. Seeing you today, you’re indeed like a fairy.”
Xu Ling did not take his hand. “Hello. Perhaps we can catch up another time. I’m meeting someone today, so I’ll let you two enjoy your meal elsewhere.”
Zhao Xiaozhi quickly said, “Oh, Xu Ling, don’t be so formal. Your friends are my friends! I know your family’s situation isn’t great, so let Liu Bin treat us—he’s got money…”
