Chapter 090: Supporting You in Dating Two People at Once
Song Kai froze for a moment.
What was going on here?
He had only gone out on a date, and when he came back there was already a woman throwing herself into his arms?
He walked over and saw that the woman on the bed was Liu Ying.
She was wearing a white nightgown, lying on her side, and her phone was still playing the recent hit drama The First Half of My Life. Under the lamplight, the calf she had left bare looked clear and delicate.
Beautiful. Soft, fragile, and so easy to pity.
But right now, Song Kai could not afford to be tempted, much less to act on it. If Liu Qian found out, she might throw him out, and then he would be finished.
Song Kai patted Liu Ying on the shoulder.
Liu Ying slowly opened her eyes. Seeing that Song Kai had returned, she sat up at once and straightened the nightgown on her body.
"Song Kai, did you just go out?" Liu Ying asked.
"Yeah. I went out to sober up a little and look at the stars. Hurry back to your room and sleep. Don't catch a chill," Song Kai said.
Liu Ying laughed. With her hands clasped behind her back, she said, "All right. I actually came over to talk to you and thank you, but then I fell asleep. Song Kai, let me tell you, whether it's Tang Fu or Li Gang, they both have a lot of underlings. You really need to be careful."
"Okay, go back to sleep," Song Kai said.
Liu Ying skipped away and returned to her own room.
After closing the door, she lay down on the bed with a smile all over her face.
Song Kai really was wonderful. She had fallen asleep on his bed in a nightgown, and he still hadn't done anything improper.
Yes. He really was wonderful.
Liu Ying stretched lazily and soon fell asleep.
...
Seeing that no one else was in the room, Song Kai took a bath, padded around the room barefoot for a bit, and then quietly slipped into Liu Qian's room.
Liu Qian's room was very tidy. Beside it stood a large bookcase filled with weighty volumes on law.
Song Kai searched all around, but found no clues.
In the end, he had no choice but to go back to bed.
It was around two in the morning before he heard a car outside, followed by the sound of Liu Qian coming in.
Song Kai cultivated his Nine Thunder Inner Energy for a while, and then drifted off to sleep.
The next day, Liu Ying made breakfast. After Liu Qian finished eating, she hurried out again.
Liu Ying grabbed Liu Qian and said, "Sis, can't you stop working so hard?"
Liu Qian flicked Liu Ying's hair and said, "If you can't bear to see your sister working so hard, then why don't you take the judicial police exam? That would put my mind at ease."
Liu Ying pouted. "Fine, then I'll apply to be a judicial police officer. Sis, I'll help you from now on. I've already graduated anyway, and I can't be a yoga instructor anymore. I might as well settle down and prepare for the civil service exams."
Liu Qian smiled and then left.
After eating, Song Kai felt a little bored. Hanging around like this was not a solution.
He had to settle this case as soon as possible. Otherwise, it would delay his college entrance exam. And after that, he would have to accompany Xu Ling to America. Both were important matters.
Just then, his phone rang. It was Wu Hongying.
Song Kai took the call in his room. "What is it?"
"Found anything?" Wu Hongying asked.
"Not a damn thing," Song Kai sighed.
"I've found some very valuable material on my side. Let's meet up and I'll show you," Wu Hongying said.
"Perfect. I'm bored stiff anyway."
"At Allure Bar. There are lots of people there, so we won't be followed," Wu Hongying said, and then hung up.
Song Kai changed his clothes and prepared to head out.
Liu Ying was mopping the floor in her room. Seeing Song Kai, she asked, "Song Kai, The Legend of Wukong is out. Want to go see it?"
"Huh? No. The movie has already been torn apart online. I heard it's awful," Song Kai said. "Go by yourself."
Liu Ying nodded at once. "You make a good point. I won't watch it either. Where are you going now?"
"To a bar. Meeting a friend," Song Kai said.
"A bar? I'm going too." Liu Ying threw down the mop. "Song Kai, take me with you. I've never been to one before. I heard that place is really chaotic, with people always coming up to flirt. Just take me with you."
"Uh... all right."
Song Kai smiled helplessly.
What was this? Now he had picked up a little tail to drag along behind him.
Still, Liu Ying was just a novice, and taking her into a bar probably wouldn't interfere with his handoff with Wu Hongying.
With that in mind, the two of them went to Allure Bar.
The bar was quite well known. Not only did it have a crowd at night, but during the day there were still plenty of idle people here drinking and dancing. Just from the name alone, you could tell it was the kind of place arty young people and wandering souls loved most.
Song Kai looked around and spotted Wu Hongying, but with Liu Ying tagging along, it wouldn't be appropriate to go over directly. So he took another seat and looked for a chance to speak with Wu Hongying.
Liu Ying was still quite excited. Sitting across from Song Kai, she took a couple of selfies and posted them to her social feed.
Not long after, Wu Hongying, who was sitting nearby, got up and walked toward the restroom.
Song Kai understood at once. He said to Liu Ying, "Liu Ying, I'm going to the restroom. You stay here and play by yourself."
"Mm, okay."
Liu Ying sat there and started chatting with Huang Yun.
Song Kai walked over, following Wu Hongying's figure to a long-unused stairwell in the back.
"Not bad, huh!" Wu Hongying took off her cap, shook out her hair, and said, "You're an undercover agent, all right. Wherever you go, you always have a pretty little girl trailing after you. How come it feels like you're the one profiting big-time?"
Song Kai rolled his eyes at her in exasperation. "I can look, but not touch. What good is that? Still, I think once this mission is over, maybe I can try flirting with that pretty little girl."
"You beast..." Wu Hongying shot him a contemptuous look, then her expression changed. "But of course you can. I support you. Go ahead and juggle two boats!"
Wu Hongying looked thrilled, as if her own son were about to plow a little cabbage patch, and she could not have been happier.
Song Kai rubbed his forehead. "Can we get to the point? I need to find a clue in the next couple of days. Otherwise I can't keep living in someone else's house forever. It would look bad."
Wu Hongying nodded. "That's true. If you still can't find any evidence in the next couple of days... Hmm, Song Kai, if all else fails, maybe you should just win over that little girl and become a son-in-law of the Liu family. That way, you would definitely be able to uncover clues about Cross-River Dragon."
"I swear..." Song Kai folded his arms across his chest. "Don't even think about making me sacrifice my looks. Not a chance."
"Look at you."
Wu Hongying took a pouch from inside her clothes. "Come over and take a look. It's a very old photo."
Song Kai glanced at it. It was a yellowed old photograph, the kind with only three simple tones: black, white, and sepia. Two men, one woman, and three children stood in the picture. The eldest child, around twelve years old, had delicate features and was very pretty. She even looked rather like Liu Qian.
"This is... a family photo of Liu Qian?" Song Kai asked.
"Yes. We only found it after a great deal of effort investigating Liu Qian. It seems that Cross-River Dragon and Liu Qian really do have a connection. This photo was taken in the border region. Liu Qian's parents were probably once very famous drug lords. This slightly younger-looking man beside them is Cross-River Dragon. Take a careful look. This is a top-secret file, and I still have to take it back with me," Wu Hongying said.
Song Kai scratched his head and stared at the photo for a few moments before saying, "All right. Though I wish I had Xu Ling's kind of ability to tell people apart."
"What did you say? Who is Xu Ling? Can she solve cases?" Wu Hongying asked immediately.
Song Kai quickly said, "No, of course she can't solve cases. Fine, I've memorized him. Don't worry. If I ever run into him, I'll definitely recognize him."
Song Kai was not about to drag Xu Ling into this.
Wu Hongying put the photo away.
Just then, a man and a woman came walking over, locked in each other's arms. Before they had even reached the stairs, the woman let out a rather peculiar cry.
"Why are you in such a hurry? It hurts me to death, and I'm not even wet yet."
"Nonsense. When we were dancing just now, I could feel it with my fingers long ago, and you're still denying it."
Then came a few more sounds from the woman.
Song Kai and Wu Hongying were hidden inside. Hearing this, Wu Hongying's face rarely flushed red. She put on her cap, and now she was in an awkward position—leaving was not quite right, and staying was not quite right either.
Seeing her expression, Song Kai felt like laughing. It really was not easy to make this woman blush.
"Stop laughing and get moving," Wu Hongying said, jamming her cap into place as she headed outside.
Outside, a man and a woman in a miniskirt were supporting themselves against the wall.
When the man saw Wu Hongying, he was stunned for a moment, then gave a whistle and said, "Hey, beauty, look, I'm eighteen centimeters."
"Go to hell!"
Wu Hongying turned and kicked him.
The poor man was sent flying straight away, landing in the corridor some distance off. In an instant, he was dead to the world below the belt.
The woman clung to the wall, terrified, keeping her backside lifted in place and not daring to move.
Wu Hongying left elegantly.
Song Kai really felt sorry for that guy. He had only wanted to act like a lecher, and now he was probably about to lose his ability to do anything at all.
Song Kai walked toward Liu Ying's table. Before he even got there, he heard Liu Ying shouting, "Get lost! I won't drink with you. I don't even know you..."
