Chapter 114: I Am Already Hers
“Senior Sister, please don’t be angry.”
To prevent this fire at the city gate from spreading and harming innocent bystanders like myself, I mustered all my courage and stepped forward. Grasping tightly the long silk ribbon Lan Duoer was about to lash out with, I smiled and tried to soothe her, saying, “Senior Brother Sanshi didn’t mean to say anything bad about you, Senior Sister. Please don’t be upset. He was only saying that Dudu is young and immature, arriving late to the sect, much like me, Yu Ge. We’re both unfamiliar with the rules here, which is why he inadvertently caused your displeasure. Brother Sanshi only spoke with the intention of finding a way to apologize to you, hoping to ease your heart.”
“Is that so?” Lan Duoer’s face was full of suspicion as she looked at me. “Why does it seem to me that Brother Sanshi is utterly unwilling to admit fault? His disciple offends me, yet he neither apologizes nor accepts punishment. Instead, he comes here to speak on his behalf, trying to claim justice from me.”
“Junior Sister Duoer, please don’t be angry.”
The effeminate man still wore a smile on his face as he bowed deeply in apology. “All the fault lies with your Senior Brother’s master, who has failed in his duties, resulting in such a wayward disciple and your justifiable anger. Today, I apologize to you on his behalf, and I beg you not to take this matter to heart.”
“An apology? Who cares about your apologies?”
Lan Duoer refused to relent, her voice sharp. “My father is the Azure Scale Dragon Lord, a high immortal of the Heavenly Realm, and my mother is the Jade Emperor’s niece, the Moonlight Immortal. I am their only daughter.”
With that, she glared fiercely at me, her eyes burning. “In the celestial realm, my status is unmatched. Yet today, I have to associate myself with a mere mortal who is also a fellow disciple. It’s utterly humiliating.”
She then grabbed my sleeve and began pulling me aside, clearly unwilling to let me go.
“Junior Sister Duoer, please wait.”
That delicate voice rang out calmly from behind.
I was surprised—why did he call Lan Duoer to halt? Could it be that he understood I did not want to leave with her? This gentle summons felt like a lifeline, and in my mind, the effeminate man suddenly grew taller and more imposing.
But Lan Duoer acted as if she heard nothing, conjuring her auspicious cloud to prepare to take me away, soaring arrogantly above the Wuji Palace.
My heart sank. It seemed this effeminate man only wished to call back his junior sister. Even as I stood firmly on the cloud, he made no move to snatch me away.
“Junior Sister Duoer, wait a moment.”
His voice sounded again.
As the cloud rose higher and farther from the ground, the faint flicker of hope in my heart was extinguished by his words. Turning away with a look of sorrow, I saw the effeminate man now standing on the cloud.
When did he get here? How did I not notice? I stared in surprise at his small, triumphant smile. Just as I was about to speak, he suddenly grabbed my arm tightly. Before I could react, he spun me into his embrace.
I never expected someone so slender and fragile in appearance to possess such strength.
“Brother Sanshi, what do you mean by this?”
Lan Duoer turned around to find me nestled in his arms, her face immediately turning dark with anger. She reached out to grab me, startling me.
“Quick, quick, run!” I urged in a whisper.
Hearing the effeminate man’s laughter, I dodged Lan Duoer’s grasp as he retreated with me in his arms. He moved swiftly, the scenery flashing past in a blur. He spun me once, and when we looked back, we were already about ten steps away from Lan Duoer.
Frustrated at missing her target, Lan Duoer’s eyes blazed with fury as she glared at us. “Yu Ge was brought here by me. Brother Sanshi, what is the meaning of you intercepting her halfway here?”
Well then! After traveling with her all this way, it seems I belong to her now.
