Chapter 104: Company Reformation

Yang Changfeng’s show of force had worked. The moment some of the company’s fence-sitters saw him return, they understood that things were different now—the boss’s guardian had come back.

The Security Department was finished. After all this turmoil, it would no longer be Wang Hu’s department. The man surnamed Yang could fight, dared to fight, and would fight anyone. With the boss’s support, no one could oppose him.

Since opposing him was impossible, they might as well submit.

But Wang Hu was not someone they could afford to offend either. In that case, they would support neither side. It was only a job, after all; as long as they were paid, that was enough. Let the two of them fight it out. So long as no one dragged them into it, everything would be fine. The company could not possibly stop paying everyone’s wages.

Yet they failed to consider one thing: if they did not even possess the most basic sense of right and wrong, what use did the company have for them?

Chen Aijia had made up her mind to reform the company. People like these were its actual opponents. Reform would inevitably affect certain people’s interests, and that meant struggle. If the company’s own employees did not support the boss, believing instead that it made no difference who won or lost, then what purpose did they serve? Simply showing up for work?

It went both ways. They created value for the company, but the company also provided them with a platform—or at the very least, a job.

Throughout the morning, hardly anyone noticed that the company’s Security Department had disappeared completely.

Sitting in their offices, everyone was uneasy. It seemed the struggle within the company had reached a point where no one could tell what would happen next. Which path to take? They would have to choose carefully.

Eight-thirty—the official start of the workday.

Two girls entered through the main doors, walking so timidly that they scarcely dared take a full step. Those watching Yang Changfeng from behind the windows, where he sat by the entrance looking as though he had fallen asleep, could not help sneering at them. They clearly had no idea what kind of place this was. Did they think just anyone could walk in?

Then they saw Zhang Baode dash down from upstairs.

So there really was someone left in the Security Department.

It seemed Director Wang still had some influence.

“Do you think Zhang Baode has become the darling of the Security Department?”

“Haha, stop joking. Seriously, stop joking.”

“Him?”

“Become a leader?”

“Hahaha! The weather’s really nice today.”

Zhang Baode ran over at full speed and stopped the two girls. “May I ask whom you’re here to see?”

One of the prettier girls pointed at Xiao Heng. “I—I’m here to see my brother. Sister Chen told us to come this morning.”

Ah, so they were the leader’s younger sisters.

Zhang Baode immediately sprinted off to call Yang Changfeng. “Boss, there are two girls looking for you. They say they’re your sisters.”

Yang Changfeng had genuinely fallen asleep. Otherwise, Zhang Baode would never have had to run so far to stop people entering the building.

When he opened his eyes, Xu Jie’er and Xiuer were standing nearby. The two girls had clearly made an effort with their appearance, but neither wore makeup. Their bare faces were clean and fresh.

“I fell asleep.”

Xu Jie’er’s eyes held a trace of sympathy. She thought this brother’s comrade was rather strange—how could anyone sleep right by the main entrance? But where had all the blood on the ground come from?

Yang Changfeng spoke sheepishly as he sprang to his feet and hurriedly prepared to take the girls to An Ya so she could arrange work for them.

Zhang Baode smiled. “Boss, why don’t I take them? Just tell me whom they need to see. You can go rest in the study room for a while. You haven’t slept all night. Even a man made of iron couldn’t take that.”

Yang Changfeng thought that made sense and instructed him, “These two girls are my sisters—my family. Old Zhang, look after them from now on.”

He turned back and introduced him. “Call him Brother Zhang. He’s a good friend of mine. If I’m away handling business and anyone gives you trouble, go to him. He’s the deputy head of our Security Department, and he’ll be your supervisor.”

Zhang Baode was delighted. It seemed the boss was not the arrogant sort. That was good. Who would not want to work for a reasonable leader with a pleasant temper? Better days were surely ahead.

Xu Jie’er and Xiuer hurriedly bowed.

Zhang Baode smiled. “No need for that, no need.”

“Old Zhang, take them to see An Ya. You met her last night. Let her arrange suitable work for them, but don’t put them in anything too demanding. They’re both beginners and don’t understand anything yet, so they’ll need to learn. Also, don’t let too many unrelated people know about this. If anyone asks, tell them they were interviewed and approved in advance.”

Yang Changfeng’s eyes narrowed. A murderous edge entered his voice.

“There are some people who wouldn’t dare cause trouble for me, but that doesn’t mean they wouldn’t dare cause trouble for my sisters.”

Xu Jie’er quickly said, “Brother, go take care of your work. Don’t let us interfere with it.”

Yang Changfeng pointed dramatically toward the sky, swaggering shamelessly. “Ha! In this place, who would dare dock your brother’s pay? Relax. With me protecting you, if anyone bullies you, don’t say a word—just go up and hit them. Even if you beat them half to death, it’ll be fine.”

“Show-off!”

Xu Jie’er made a face, then laughingly took the shy Xiuer by the hand. The two girls followed Zhang Baode upstairs.

Yang Changfeng scratched his head. Having a sister like that really did feel wonderful.

He glanced at the bloodstains on the ground and frowned in surprise. “That fellow ran off? He didn’t even ask for medical expenses?”

He had expected the man to wake the police after Yang Changfeng fell asleep and try to extort medical compensation from him. At the very least, it would have given him an excuse to put the man behind bars. He had never expected the coward to let the matter go.

What a pity. He had lost a chance to teach the man a lesson.

Seeing that nothing else was happening, Yang Changfeng crossed his legs again, yawned, and fell asleep almost at once.

Chen Aijia called him, exasperated. “It’s working hours, and you still dare to sleep? Believe me, I’ll dock your pay!”

Yang Changfeng snapped angrily, “You little tyrant, do you know how annoying it is to wake someone up? What is it now? What does the capitalist want me to do? Who am I supposed to beat?”

“Beat your own head. Go wash your face. We’re about to hold a full senior-management meeting. Have Captain Zhang stand in for the security guard at the entrance for now. After the meeting, have him take the money to the Department of Military Affairs. We need a lot of people, and we need them urgently. Pay their travel expenses first. Otherwise, if no one comes for two or three days, you and Captain Zhang will be so busy you’ll be falling asleep before work even begins.”

Chen Aijia’s voice was playfully scolding, and she was clearly in a good mood.

Yang Changfeng muttered, “All right, all right, capitalist. I’m going to sleep for a few more minutes. You get on with your work. I’ll make it to the conference room on time.”

Next door, An Ya saw Zhang Baode arrive with Xu Jie’er and Xiuer and immediately rose to her feet. “I told you they might not arrive until this afternoon. Come on, I’ll take you to your office. We’re about to have a meeting. I’ll explain everything in detail afterward.”

This left everyone in the company stunned. An Ya had personally brought two poorly dressed girls to the Human Resources Department to report for work, saying they had already been interviewed and approved and that the boss himself had arranged for them to join a team and learn the ropes.

“They don’t have much time available, so any leave requests must be submitted precisely. Of course, I’ll make arrangements as well. Also, do your best to guide them. I hope your team can provide them with a positive working environment.”

After saying this, An Ya ignored everyone else’s reactions and turned gently to Xu Jie’er and Xiuer.

“If anything happens, call me directly or find Captain Zhang. Don’t keep it bottled up inside, all right?”
