How could anyone say a luxury auto show was anything but a feast for the eyes? Everywhere he looked there were long, shapely legs and snowy-white bosoms. After scanning the whole exhibition hall, Yang Changfeng had yet to find a single car model who fell below a certain standard.

With both hands tucked into his trouser pockets, Yang Changfeng wandered from one display to another, carrying only one thought in his heart.

There were truly far too many rich people in this country these days!

A Bugatti Veyron worth thirty million yuan had just been driven away by a rich young heir who had not even bothered to look at it properly. From beginning to end, he had said only one thing: “If you get anything better in the future, remember to let me know. This one isn’t good enough, but it’s a pity you can’t get anything better. I’ll make do with it for now.”

Thirty million yuan! Real Chinese currency, not game money!

Yang Changfeng shuddered at the thought, his heart aching.

His own clothes were quite ordinary, but he drove a modified Raptor.

Someone who knew nothing about cars might glance at that blazing-red Raptor and curl his lip, muttering, “Just some beat-up pickup.” But did they know how much that “beat-up pickup” was actually worth?

There was no need even to mention the original price. After modifications, it could not be done for less than seven or eight million yuan. Besides, people who drove Raptors generally had rather distinctive tastes.

Did wearing bargain clothes give anyone the right to look down on them?

Even the young women modeling the cars here knew that anyone who could afford a modified Raptor was worth at least thirty million yuan. In a place like this, arriving in a Cadillac or something of the sort was what truly invited contempt.

Yang Changfeng was examining a high-end Land Cruiser, the cheapest vehicle in the entire exhibition.

The model beside it was not striking any coquettish poses either. This was a high-class auto show; she had no need to flaunt her charms. Maintaining a smile and standing gracefully was enough. If some wealthy patron took a fancy to her because of her elegant bearing, she might easily become his legitimate wife. The sort of suggestive posing that would work here would probably only appeal to men who had come with nothing but sex on their minds.

“Sir, this vehicle...” The model began to introduce the Land Cruiser.

Yang Changfeng waved her off with a genial smile. “No need. I’m only looking. I’m completely broke. How could I possibly afford a luxury car?”

“You certainly know how to joke, sir. Your Raptor didn’t cost much less than this one.” The model smiled without the slightest awkwardness. What did a refusal matter?

She had seen who had accompanied him. A woman who had made even the owner of the company organizing the auto show hurry along behind her, as though he were attending a meeting with a foreign head of state. She clearly was not his driver. Anyone who could remain so indifferent toward a tycoon worth billions was certainly no ordinary person.

Yang Changfeng glanced back at the Raptor parked outside the floor-to-ceiling glass windows and shrugged. “That wasn’t bought by me. A friend gave it to me.”

The young model smiled. “Then you must move in very elevated circles.”

Suddenly, someone behind Yang Changfeng laughed and called out teasingly, “Well, Brother Yang, what a coincidence. We meet again. But I can’t very well pretend not to see you chatting up a car model, can I?”

Yang Changfeng turned around and saw two young men who looked vaguely familiar.

“Well, if it isn’t Young Master Liu and Young Master Zhang. Shouldn’t the two of you be hovering around the parking spot where they’re displaying the Bugatti Veyron? What brings you over here?” Yang Changfeng remembered them. They were the two rich heirs he had met at the racing event: one the only son of a major Jiangzhou real-estate magnate, the other the son of the chairman of the Jiangzhou Technology Park Group. They were the kind of fellows who spent their days wandering around in search of beautiful women, watching races, or taking yachts out for a spin.

Their character was not bad, though. They were somewhat idle and frivolous, but they were not overly arrogant in speech or conduct. Even when shaking hands with Ma Siwei, they had merely brushed her hand before releasing it. They were, in their own way, quite well-mannered.

Young Master Liu laughed. “Damn it, how could we afford a place like that? We finally saved up a bit of pocket money and poured the whole lot into online games. Old Zhang does have a little cash in hand, though. You didn’t see it, did you? That kid surnamed Bai drove the car away just now. Old Zhang nearly exploded.”

So the fellow’s surname was Bai.

Yang Changfeng looked at Young Master Zhang, whose expression still had not improved, and said with a smile, “If you want to race, that car isn’t exactly ideal for racing in this country. In my opinion, you two aren’t short of money. It shouldn’t be difficult to get a good car and modify it, should it?”

“It’s about face,” Young Master Zhang said indignantly. “That bastard humiliated me. We know his family has money, and he can squander it however he likes, but he shouldn’t embarrass people in public.” He cursed angrily. “All I did was tell his ex-girlfriend that he was a womanizer and couldn’t be trusted. Did he really have to go this far?”

All right. The world of rich heirs was beyond the understanding of ordinary people like him.

Young Master Liu gave a cold laugh. “Yes, it wasn’t anything remarkable. But that woman is the youngest daughter of a major figure in Jiangzhou’s political circles. By exposing him like that, you robbed the Bai family of its chance to become the richest family in Jiangzhou. Do you really think they wouldn’t hate you?”

Damn. So it was a struggle for power after all. He had known there had to be more to it. Without that kind of deep enmity, no one would snatch someone else’s property in front of an entire auto show.

Young Master Zhang looked at Yang Changfeng, then suddenly brightened. He clapped his hands and said, “Brother Yang, Chen, the most beautiful flower in all of Jiangzhou, is already yours. If you manage to win this one over too, you’ll become the man we brothers admire most.”

Go to hell. Who was your brother?

Since he had nothing else to do, Yang Changfeng decided to treat the whole thing as idle chatter and asked casually, “What’s that woman’s name?”

“Jiang Muyang.” Young Master Zhang’s expression turned solemn as he pronounced the three words.

Yang Changfeng nearly fell over.

He had been feeling rather pleased with himself. His wife was the most beautiful woman in all of Jiangzhou, and the thought had inflated his vanity to unprecedented heights. He had not expected these two ruthless young men to utter an even more formidable name.

Jiang Muyang was thirty-one years old, the youngest daughter of Jiang Hai, a towering figure in Jiangzhou’s political world.

Who was Jiang Hai?

Put it this way: Sun Zhaoxing’s father belonged to one of the most powerful factions in the political sphere, while Jiang Hai belonged to one of the most powerful factions in the military. More importantly, Sun Zhaoxing’s family came from humble origins, whereas Jiang Hai was a genuine third-generation member of the revolutionary elite.

His grandfather had been a fierce commander who had already risen to regimental commander during the Long March. His father had fought in Seoul during the Korean War. Both of his elder brothers had taken part in the war against the Americans in Vietnam. Jiang Hai himself had served on the southern frontier as the commander of an assault battalion attached to a regiment.

Jiang Muyang was no less impressive in her own right. At thirty-one, she was the head of a state-owned enterprise, with the entire power-supply system of Jiangzhou under her control. The media had reported on her before. She was, indeed, breathtakingly beautiful.

Yang Changfeng hurriedly waved his hands. “Gentlemen, don’t drag me into this. What sort of person is she, and what sort of person am I? You two, on the other hand, are handsome and accomplished. I think you’re the ones qualified to pursue her.”

The two men shuddered in unison and hastily waved him off.

“Brother, we’ll call you brother—don’t get us killed! We—”

All at once, an enraged shout came from nearby.

“Young Master Liu! Young Master Zhang! And whoever the hell you are! Are you looking to die? How dare you talk about my sister behind her back? Take this!”

A leg came flying toward them. As its blurred shadow flashed past, Yang Changfeng hurriedly dodged. When he focused his eyes, he saw a young man of twenty-four or twenty-five wearing military camouflage trousers tucked into combat boots and a training jacket. His face was twisted with fury as he swung his fist at the other two men.

Judging by the way he spoke, he was from the Jiang family.

Yang Changfeng stamped his feet in frustration.

This time, he had truly landed himself in trouble.
