Chapter 91: Rival
Madman!
At the very first moment many people saw Yang Changfeng actually daring to race Andrei blindfolded, the first impression that rose in their hearts was sheer madness.
This was underground racing, not bumper cars. Who in the world could race with his eyes covered?
Even in official competitions, no veteran who knew the course like the back of his hand would dare rely on memory alone. Who did this kid think he was? Did he really believe he could be this arrogant?
Skill? No, even the strongest skill would not permit such a race. This was not basketball or soccer. One slip, and someone could die.
“This kid is definitely finished today. He’s making a joke with his life,” said the celebrity racer on the far bank, crossing one leg over the other. He would never admit that, for that instant, his blood had begun to burn.
Such a life-and-death race sent adrenaline surging through the body.
Mary Sue sneered, “What’s he pretending for?”
Masiwei, however, clutched her sleeve at once. Her idol could of course not be defeated, but Yang’s outrageous provocation still made her heart tighten, and then blood rushed hot through her veins.
Although she had known him only a short while, Masiwei had come to understand Yang Changfeng well enough: he was absolutely not the kind of man who joked with his own life. Since he was doing this, he must have the confidence to do it.
Could there really be strength this arrogant?
If Yang could truly race Andrei on an unfamiliar track even with his eyes closed, then even if he lost, it would still be enough to shock the world.
Win?
No. Andrei could not lose. He was the hope of underground racing, the hero best at mastering a racing car in the world. How could he possibly lose?
Sun Zhaoxing quietly asked Chen Aijia, “Is there going to be a problem with this?”
Chen Aijia’s tense face had reached the point where she could hardly speak. A single line squeezed out of her throat: “How would I know?”
Inside, she had come to hate Sun Zhaoxing for it. Wasn’t it only because of Sun’s invitation that Yang had been pushed to this point? If Sun had not invited him, how could Yang have thought of using such a reckless method to raise his score?
Yang Changfeng knew that no one believed in him, just as no one knew that he possessed x-ray vision.
Indeed, blindfolded or not, to Yang Changfeng there was no difference whatsoever. But no one else knew that.
He knew this did not count as his true strength, yet he still wanted to use this method to utterly crush all of Andrei Ivanov’s confidence.
Approaching Sun Zhaoxing must have hidden motives. Whether Sun had discovered them or not, as a former guardian of the republic, Yang Changfeng felt he had the right, the ability, and the duty to snuff out these foreigners’ ambitions right now.
Listening carefully, he heard Andrei Ivanov’s car draw alongside.
Yang Changfeng slowly raised one middle finger, the corner of his mouth curling in contempt, showing complete disdain for his opponent.
Only then did Andrei Ivanov see Yang Changfeng’s condition. After his shock came a surge of rage.
Too arrogant. Arrogant to the point of losing all reason.
Was racing something you could do with your eyes closed?
Especially when this guy was still unfamiliar with the track.
“I suspect he is cheating. I request an inspection,” Ivanov said through the microphone beside his helmet to the judging panel.
Impossible. There could not possibly be anyone daring enough to race like this. Some might think Yang was merely trying to attract attention, but Andrei knew the name Heavenly King well. This was a top-tier racer. He would not use such a method merely to show arrogance, as if losing by a few minutes did not count as losing dignity. Judging by real ability, Yang had a very good chance of winning.
Then, racing in such a life-defying way must mean this guy was cheating.
Ivanov did not know what method he might use, but only one thought came to him: this man was cheating.
The judges were also at a loss. Today these two were each stupider than the last: one raced blindfolded, and the other actually claimed the opponent was cheating.
If someone were cheating, why would he be blindfolded?
Did that towel have some place where he could still see the course?
Yang Changfeng did not mind in the least. Calmly, he said, “Since this kid refuses to accept it, fine. Bring over your towels.”
At the signal of the middle-aged woman, the chief judge went over personally to ask whether they truly intended to race in this manner.
“Tell your boss to go ask around about the name Heavenly King first, you frog at the bottom of a well,” Yang Changfeng said.
Then, with a casual motion, he took the strap from the chief judge’s neck. It was three inches wide, absolutely leaving no possibility of cheating.
“Ivanov, a few years ago you could actually have stepped away. Pity you chose to court death. After this, if you still have the face to appear in the underground racing world, then you will truly have become an underground racer.” Fastening the strap onto the towel, Yang Changfeng pressed the accelerator while keeping the brake feathered, beginning his warm-up. The Raptor was excellent, but its speed still could not be brought up abruptly.
Ivanov’s face turned gloomy. He had a most ominous feeling: Yang was probably serious.
He could not be defeated by him. Absolutely not.
This concerned not only his own interests, but also the promise he had accepted. Once he lost, the reduction in income would make life unbearable. He had to find a way to win this race.
Yet looking at the modified body of the Raptor, Ivanov began shaking his head. This car could not be collided with by his own professional machine. One touch, and the racing car would fall apart.
“The bodies are unequal. I request an added rule: no contact between the two cars,” Andrei Ivanov said through his earpiece to the chief judge, the middle-aged woman, stating his demand with self-righteous conviction. “I cannot risk my racing career in a competition like this. Please respect my request. Otherwise, I demand a car change, or even withdrawal from the race.”
The woman disliked this foreigner, but since the racer had been hired by a sponsor, she could not possibly drive him away no matter how much she disliked him. For this race, many sponsors had spared no expense.
Still, from today onward, this racetrack might well end up under Sun’s name, if only this madman who called himself Heavenly King could win.
But could he really win?
Over the earpiece, Yang Changfeng’s faint voice came through: “Agree to it. For a loser, any excuse he can find can become evidence of his complete destruction. I welcome Andrei to humiliate himself.”
This was reducing his own advantage to the lowest possible level. This madman was getting more and more insane.
Anya clenched her small fists, her palms already slick with sweat.
The race had not even begun, and many people’s heartbeats were already above normal.
As the chief judge raised the race flag high, the entire venue fell utterly silent.
Then someone suddenly shouted, “Andrei, you’re the best. You will definitely win!”
Every eye turned. It was Lan Yiheng.
