Chapter 97: Young Master Xiao
They had arrived by taxi, but there were no cars waiting for them for the return trip, and walking to the highway entrance was out of the question. Chen Aijia and Anya discussed the possibility of staying the night, figuring they could just have someone from the company drive out to pick them up in the morning.
Yang Changfeng handed the keys over to Ma Siwei, a gesture that greatly pleased Sun Zhaoxing. Everyone appreciates a man who isn't greedy. The man who had received the keys wasn't offended either; instead, he laughed and said, "Brother Yang is a man of honor. May I ask where you work? You should leave me a business card. We novices could certainly use a mentor like you when it comes to racing."
Sun Zhaoxing burst into laughter. "Mentor? Don't make me laugh! This guy's brain works differently than most. He’s currently chasing Chen Aijia, even going so far as to work as a security guard at her company. Hahaha, this guy—he prefers beauty over the empire. A true '昏君' (foolish monarch) if I’ve ever seen one."
The man’s eyes lit up. "Then I must ask for your guidance, Brother Yang."
As it turned out, this fellow was also prone to such absurd behavior. He had set his sights on a girl at his own company and was trying to pursue her, but she wouldn't give him the time of day. Not everyone from an ordinary background wants to marry into wealth; the girl was quite plain, but he was smitten. To win her over, he had actually abandoned his duties at a branch office to work as a security guard at the service hall where she worked. Many in their circle mocked him, but he didn't think it was a big deal—in fact, he doubled down, now pestering the service hall to give him benefits, having become truly addicted to being a security guard.
Hearing this, Yang Changfeng couldn't help but chuckle. "Let's trade notes sometime. If you’re free, brother, come visit our company. But keep it clean—if that girl suddenly drops by for a visit and sees you, it might be a disaster. You need to be careful."
The man’s surname was Xiao. He hated being called "Young Master Xiao." Want to know what he preferred? He actually liked being called "Squad Leader Xiao." He was the security squad leader at the service hall. He was a likable guy.
"Squad Leader Xiao" looked miserable, his face crinkling as he patted his cheeks. "You won't believe this, but no one has ever slapped me since I grew up. And yet, I wanted to take my wife-to-be out for a meal, and I ended up getting slapped twice—left and right, both sides! Sigh, what can I say? When you have someone like that in your heart, anything they do to you feels fine."
Yang Changfeng suggested he visit the girl's home when he had the chance.
"That's exactly what I'm planning! There’s a holiday coming up, ha! I'll buy a ticket, and even if she doesn't give me her address, I can follow her, right? I refuse to believe that once I’m at her front door, she’ll dare to throw me out!" He looked triumphant, clearly proud of his own cleverness.
Good grief, for someone running such a massive business, he couldn't even dig up an ordinary girl's home address? It seemed he was truly, deeply in love.
Sun Zhaoxing leaned over to Yang Changfeng. "Guess how many years this kid has been chasing her?" He held up a hand. "Five years. Five whole years, and he still hasn't managed to find out where she lives. He’s a real talent, that one."
Yang Changfeng reached out his hand immediately. "I'll call you 'Old Xiao' from now on, all right? Let's stay in touch. I have some unruly subordinates to deal with tonight, but remember: if you ever make it to her house, act natural. If you want to get close to them, don't put on airs."
The guy was full of confidence, thumping his chest. "Just wait for me to pass out the wedding candy!"
Heaven knows where he got that confidence. Calling her "my wife" every other sentence—if that girl heard him, she’d probably slap him again. That would certainly be a sight to see.
Looking at him closely, Yang Changfeng realized something: this man was incredibly disciplined. He had no dark circles under his eyes, wore no makeup, and was dressed in high-end clothes. Yet, he wasn't cut out to be a "prince"—even in bespoke tailoring, he somehow managed to look like a rustic village uncle. Perhaps that was the miracle of love. He hoped he would succeed.
Chen Aijia and Anya came over to ask how they would get home.
Yang Changfeng looked surprised. "The Raptor is mine now. You two don't intend to walk back, do you?"
Sun Zhaoxing laughed. "A deal is a deal; no backing out. Alright, I won’t keep you from your business. If you need anything, call me anytime—and don't you dare wait for me to call you like I'm some high-and-mighty lord. Damn it, I’m a '衙内' (scion of a powerful family), you understand?"
He couldn't help but feel a bit frustrated; in front of Yang Changfeng, he was just Sun Zhaoxing, not "Young Master Sun." Originally, he had wanted to observe Yang a bit longer, but tonight’s performance had completely put his mind at ease. Yang was a man who understood boundaries, treated others as friends without looking to gain something, and only befriended those whose character matched his own.
Squad Leader Xiao hurriedly called out to Yang Changfeng, "Old Yang, come to our service hall to sign up for a phone plan next time!"
As soon as he said this, everyone else scattered. Apparently, to help the girl boost her sales numbers, this guy would pitch phone plans to anyone he met. His father, a legendary self-made man, didn't blame him—he actually supported him. But even the most supportive father couldn't handle signing up for ten phone plans at once. It was said the old man would take a detour whenever he saw his son, terrified of being forced to sign up for more. Who on earth needs a dozen phone plans?
Yang Changfeng, unaware of the situation, agreed, "No problem. Whenever you're off-duty, I'll come by to see you."
Squad Leader Xiao was overjoyed, looking happier than if his father had just handed him five billion.
However, Chen Aijia clearly knew the story. She grabbed Yang Changfeng and ran, as if being chased by a dog. Only after they climbed into the Raptor did she complain, "Why did you provoke him? That guy is nicknamed the 'Phone Plan Maniac.' You’ll find out soon enough how annoying he is."
I've heard of the "Infrastructure Maniac," that's our Great China! I've also heard of the "School-Building Maniac," that's Brother Louis Koo. But a "Phone Plan Maniac"? What was that?
When Chen Aijia told him, laughing, Yang Changfeng nearly hit the gas instead of the brake. What a talent!
Chen Aijia continued, laughing, "The 'Phone Plan Maniac' is the polite version. Do you know his new way of tormenting his poor father? This Young Master Xiao goes home and pesters everyone in the family to sign up for plans at his service hall. It's said the legendary boss himself had to use his own connections to sign up for twelve plans. My god, how long would it take to use those up?"
So, his way of tormenting his dad was making him sign up for phone plans at the hall? This kid was hilarious. But surely, there's no commission for that, right? It must be about sales targets; otherwise, he wouldn't be that brain-dead.
Wait, that girl had been a clerk at the service hall for years—there must be something fishy there.
Chen Aijia didn't say, only telling Yang Changfeng, "She knows exactly what she's doing. Others don't need to worry about it. Don't let his behavior fool you—that kid might seem unreliable, but he knows exactly what he's doing."
Yang Changfeng shook his head and let it go. He stepped on the gas, and the Raptor roared, charging into the curtain of rain toward the ring road. It was time to settle his own business.
