Chapter Ninety-Three: The Ninth Prince
Miao Miao was sitting in her place eating breakfast, and after the meal Yanhe handed her the shops and some plots of land belonging to the prince’s residence.
Seeing him present these things to her, Miao Miao rolled her eyes and said, “Why are you showing me all this?”
Yanhe glanced at her and said, “Other mistresses are in charge of these things.”
Hearing this, Miao Miao immediately cast another eye roll at him. “I’m not even anyone to you. Why should I be in charge of all this?”
Yanhe froze at her words. “Didn’t you say last night, ‘For the rest of my life, please take good care of me’?”
Miao Miao rolled her eyes again. “What, I changed my mind. Isn’t that allowed?”
“I thought about it last night and suddenly realized I shouldn’t have been so hasty.”
Yanhe looked at her expressionlessly. Seeing no response from him, Miao Miao went on, “After all, the gap between us is too big.”
“If I’m with you, you’ll be a middle-aged uncle, and with such an age difference, there’ll be a generation gap.”
Yanhe paused, then raised a brow at her. “Hm. If you put it that way, you really should think it through.”
Miao Miao was instantly infuriated. Her little mouth pouted, and she looked displeased at once. Seeing that, Yanhe crouched slightly to meet her eyes and said, “Even if you won’t consider me, you still have to wait three years. But the one who has always been by your side is me.”
At his words, Miao Miao’s heart suddenly began to pound for no reason, and in that instant she felt as if she had been flirted with.
She sat there silently. Seeing that the girl would not answer him, Yanhe could not help but smile and shake his head.
Then, as if he had suddenly remembered something, Yanhe took a letter from under the desk and handed it to her. “Here. A letter from River Frost.”
Miao Miao took the letter and opened it. After seeing the note inside, she looked up at Yanhe and said, “Ah, as long as nothing has happened to River Frost, that’s fine.”
Seeing her toss the letter aside, Yanhe sat down nearby and said, “Look over the shops and the land in the residence.”
“See what kind of use suits them.”
Miao Miao heard this and asked, “Then what about the money?”
“You handle it.”
At his reply, Miao Miao could not help but smile in delight.
When Yanhe saw her pick up the account books, a servant from the prince’s residence came to the study and said, “Your Highness, the Seventh Prince and the Ninth Prince seek an audience.”
Yanhe said to the servant, “Let them come to the study.”
Hearing this, Miao Miao said, “Then I’ll take these things back to my room and look them over there.”
Yanhe waved a hand. “No need for so much trouble.”
Miao Miao then saw him move to the side table and sit down there, while she took his place and continued studying the shops under his management.
She was flipping through the books when the Seventh Prince and the Ninth Prince entered and saw Miao Miao seated in the main seat.
The two princes were momentarily startled. Miao Miao did not even lift her head, merely keeping her eyes on her ledger.
So the two of them each did their own things. Yanhe discussed matters of the court with the Seventh Prince and the Ninth Prince.
Meanwhile, Miao Miao kept reading the account books. Seeing that she was not distracted in the slightest, the Ninth Prince could not help but admire her.
If Miao Miao knew what the Ninth Prince was thinking, she would surely tell him, “If you had gone through the national entrance exam, you’d have this kind of stamina too.”
By the time Miao Miao saw that it was nearly noon and Yanhe had still not finished, she simply stood up.
When the Ninth Prince saw her rise, his gaze followed her movement.
Miao Miao walked to the door and said to Yanhe, “Yanhe, what do you want for lunch?”
Yanhe looked up at her and said, “Rice will do. Make whatever you like.”
Miao Miao nodded. After she left the room, the Ninth Prince no longer felt any desire to continue speaking with Yanhe.
Miao Miao ordered the kitchen to begin preparing lunch and, along the way, called for the steward. She then briefly told him about the shops she had examined that morning.
She planned to go around and inspect the various shops in the afternoon, intending to alter only a few of them, since the rest were already profitable.
She did not know whether Yanhe would be finished by then, and after giving the steward his instructions, she motioned for him to withdraw.
Nanny Zhao looked at Miao Miao and nodded in satisfaction. “Would the county princess like to go and see the prince residence’s cloth shop?”
Miao Miao’s lips curved prettily. She said to Nanny Zhao, “Nanny, if you come with me to my garment workshop, the cloth shop in our residence all comes from my factory.”
Speaking of her factory, for some reason she suddenly missed Anda Pass.
As she was talking with Nanny Zhao, she suddenly saw the Ninth Prince standing before her, she did not know when.
She was startled to see him outside and then gave him a respectful salute.
The Ninth Prince said, “County Princess Anping, I am the Ninth—”
Before he could finish, Miao Miao smiled and said, “Ninth Highness, I know.” As she spoke, she narrowed her eyes with a smile.
The Ninth Prince nodded at her words and said, “Aren’t you all discussing matters? Finished already?”
Miao Miao replied with a smile, “No, not finished.”
He nodded. Smiling, she said to him, “Then hurry back and continue. It’ll still be half an hour before lunch is ready.”
At that, for some reason, the Ninth Prince suddenly laughed aloud and said to her, “It’s nothing major anyway, so even if I go out for a bit, it won’t matter.”
