Jiang Lin looked at Luo Feng, his face full of curiosity. “Lord Luo, what is the reason?”

Chu Yun also turned his gaze, waiting for him to reveal the answer.

Luo Feng spoke, “Yesterday, I listened to Physician Chu’s method of treating injuries, and it’s not much different from how we currently handle wounds. So I believe that he can ensure my injury heals quickly because the wound medicine he has made must be superior to what we use now.”

“If this is true, and we apply this wound medicine in our nation’s army, soldiers could recover much faster after being injured.”

“This would undoubtedly greatly enhance the combat strength of our military.”

At this point, he looked at Jiang Lin, then at Chu Yun. “Every war claims many lives on the battlefield, but many are not mortally wounded—they need not die. It’s simply because the wound medicine isn’t good enough; the wounds don’t heal quickly, and so they die. Chu Yun’s father also died for this reason.”

“I agreed to try Physician Chu’s wound medicine as an experiment—not to show off.”

Jiang Lin nodded repeatedly as Luo Feng spoke, sighing, “Indeed, if the wound medicine were better and more plentiful, many soldiers wouldn’t have to die. Lord Luo, I never expected your choice to be so remarkable. I apologize—I misunderstood you before.”

They both turned to Chu Yun, and in unison said, “If your wound medicine is truly as effective as you claim, and we recommend it to the Prince of Qi for use in the army, it would be a tremendous achievement! You may even receive a noble title, land, and become a lord.”

Chu Yun replied, “I don’t know how effective the wound medicine you use now is, but I am very confident in mine. Still, the speed of recovery depends not only on good medicine but also on proper wound care. If the wound is not handled correctly, even the best medicine is useless—there will still be infection and death.”

At the same time, he was surprised to discover this noble side of Luo Feng, and his opinion of him began to change.

Luo Feng and Jiang Lin nodded in agreement after Chu Yun finished speaking.

After all, they had witnessed Chu Yun’s way of treating wounds firsthand—it was indeed more meticulous and skillful.

Luo Feng then said, “Physician Chu, remember I said that if you could help my injury heal quickly, I’d reward you handsomely, right?”

Chu Yun waved his hand, “Lord Luo, there’s no need to be so formal.”

But Luo Feng took out all five taels of silver from his person and handed them to Chu Yun. “Physician Chu, your treatment, your wound medicine, and your talent—if I recommend them to the Prince of Qi, it will be a great merit, and you will surely be rewarded. Please accept this silver for now. When my injury heals, I will give you another ten taels as thanks.”

Jiang Lin asked, “By the way, Physician Chu, do you mind if Lord Luo recommends you to the Prince of Qi?”

Chu Yun didn’t answer immediately, but asked, “You just mentioned I could receive a noble title and land. Is that true? Is it really so easy to obtain a title and land?”

Jiang Lin answered with a smile, “In recent years, for reasons unknown, the Emperor has been particularly generous in granting titles and land. I myself was made a baron and given a village. If your methods and wound medicine really work quickly, you could very likely be granted a title—perhaps even higher than mine, maybe a viscount or even a marquis.”

Luo Feng agreed, “That’s right. It’s really become easier to obtain titles and land.”

Chu Yun chuckled, “Heh, if there’s a chance to gain a title and land, I certainly don’t mind you recommending me to the Prince of Qi. I’ve dreamed of having my own plot of land.”

Luo Feng laughed heartily, “So that’s what you want, Physician Chu! Actually, there’s an opportunity right now that could help you realize that wish quickly.”

Chu Yun asked, “What opportunity?”

Luo Feng was about to answer, but then held back. “Physician Chu, I can’t tell you just yet. I need to see if my injury heals fast enough. And I need to see if you can help Jiang Lin recover quickly, too. Then I’ll tell you.”

Chu Yun didn’t press further, simply smiling, “Then I’ll wait and see.”

Soon after, Luo Feng and Jiang Lin rose to take their leave.

Before departing, Chu Yun reminded Luo Feng, “Lord Luo, in the coming days, eat lightly. Most meat is stimulating and will affect your recovery. Once your wound is scabbed over, you can eat whatever you like.”

Luo Feng replied, “Understood, Physician Chu. I’ll remember.”

Chu Yun then turned to Jiang Lin, “Lord Jiang, I’ll go up the mountain this afternoon to gather herbs. I’ll make the tonic to replenish your energy and invigorate your blood as soon as possible, so you can recover quickly.”

“Thank you, Physician Chu,” Jiang Lin replied, then added, “There are wild beasts on the mountain, so please be careful. But I believe, given your skills, it shouldn’t be a problem.”

The two then saluted Chu Yun and turned to leave.

Nearby neighbors watched as the two dignitaries left smiling in their carriage, and their belief that Chu Yun had dreamed of immortals and inherited medical skills grew even stronger.

They became even more envious—and jealous—of Chu Yun.

Not long after Jiang Lin and Luo Feng departed, Chu Yun busied himself in the kitchen, making three pancakes to take with him for lunch, and then headed up the mountain to gather herbs.

This place was backward in civilization; outside the town, wild lands stretched everywhere, and the mountains were rich in medicinal plants.

Chu Yun had only been on the mountain a short while when he found several herbs—a good harvest.

But the rare herbs, and the particular ingredient needed for the tonic, were still nowhere to be found.

“Ah…”

Suddenly, a woman’s scream rang out ahead.

Chu Yun instinctively ran over to investigate, only to find that the screaming woman was none other than the herb-gathering girl he had previously met behind Master Wu’s pharmacy.
