After Summer Wuyou helped the ghostly woman in the old house find justice, peace returned to the residence as it once was. The house itself was in a prime location, making it a highly sought-after property. Thanks to Summer Wuyou’s persuasive tongue, she managed to sell it at lightning speed and at an excellent price!

With the sale of this property included, Summer Wuyou was able to maintain her sales record for the month.

"Big Sister Fatty" glanced over everyone’s performance sheets. She then looked up and rolled her eyes at Summer Wuyou, her double chin wobbling with pride as she announced, “Our team’s results are still among the best in the company this month! Even though some people have held us back, it doesn’t change our outstanding potential!”

Then, with a tone of distaste, she raised her voice, “I hope certain people will be more self-aware in the future, and stop tripping the team up on our path forward! If you cause the company any more trouble, don’t expect me to be merciful! Meeting adjourned.”

As everyone filed out of the conference room, they began whispering without any attempt to hide it. Of course, Summer Wuyou knew that “certain people” was just another name for herself, but she didn’t take it to heart at all. If she wasn’t worried that her deceased parents might leap from their graves in anger, she’d really consider going to the police station and changing her name to “Summer Certain-Person”!

Her spirits undiminished, Summer Wuyou returned to her desk. Though her performance hadn’t been stellar, successfully selling Uncle Tian’s old house and helping a pitiful woman in the process left her with a strong sense of accomplishment!

After work, I must treat myself and Tangdou to a grand meal! I’ll buy the tastiest food I can afford and reward myself properly!

As she cheerfully tidied her desk, she made plans in her mind.

“Ding!”

A news notification popped up on her phone.

“A major bus explosion has occurred in the city! Multiple casualties reported!”

The line of text was hard to ignore. Her high spirits were dampened a little. She wasn’t a saint destined to save all beings, but seeing so many people hurt, she felt it was somehow inappropriate to be too happy at such a time.

Alright, I’ll celebrate just a little, she thought.

Summer Wuyou picked up her phone, but without delving into the details of the news, she headed for home…

Since the supermarket she needed was quite far, she broke with habit and didn’t ride a shared bike. Instead, she took the bus.

On the bus, everyone was glued to their phones, occasionally discussing the day’s explosion. Seeing all the chatter, Summer Wuyou’s curiosity got the better of her and she clicked on the news video.

The busy figures of police and medical staff rushing about at the scene tugged unexpectedly at her heart.

“Heh, is there any place he isn’t?” she murmured.

Suddenly, she spotted Su Tianmu in the crowd, carrying a severely burned boy of sixteen or seventeen in his arms, racing anxiously toward an ambulance…

His face was smeared with soot like a painted cat, yet his tall, imposing figure was unshaken. Seeing him in uniform, safeguarding the people, Summer Wuyou felt a surge of respect for him.

“Nurse, check this boy quickly! He’s not going to make it!” Su Tianmu called anxiously to the nurse wheeling over a stretcher.

“Step back!” the nurse ordered, pushing Su Tianmu aside to perform a basic examination on the boy.

Regrettably, the boy showed no signs of life.

“He’s gone,” the nurse said, yet she immediately began CPR with the ambulance equipment.

But no miracle occurred. The boy was pronounced dead.

The nurse moved on to help others, but Su Tianmu stood frozen, stunned.

Watching a young life slip away before his eyes, he was filled again with that crushing sense of helplessness.

It was the last bus of the night, and the route was remote, so not many people were riding. But the explosion’s force was immense and the fire severe. Apart from the driver, all five other passengers perished. The driver, though gravely injured, was the only survivor and was sent to the hospital.

“Captain Su, the fire was too intense, the vehicle’s been destroyed. I doubt we’ll find any valuable clues,” someone reported as the fire was finally extinguished and the investigation began.

Although it was an explosion, whether it was accidental or deliberate remained unclear. The only survivor, the bus driver, was in a coma due to his injuries.

Su Tianmu stood before the skeletal remains of the bus, nothing left but its charred frame, and felt the heavy weight of grief.

“We must investigate thoroughly. Leave no detail unchecked!”

Yet because the bus was so large, they couldn’t keep it on the road for long. The police decided to move the wreckage to a vacant lot on the outskirts of the city.

Of the five victims, only one was female. Besides the young boy, the others were three middle-aged men.

With no clues, the investigation had to begin on two fronts: examining the victims’ backgrounds and searching for traces left on the bus.

Perhaps the young boy’s death struck Su Tianmu especially hard. When he returned to the station, he said not a word.

He had once had a younger brother, close to him since childhood. That brother had also died in an accident at the tender age of sixteen or seventeen.

It had nearly broken him. He hadn’t planned to become a police officer, but the shock of his brother’s death had changed the course of his life.

Meanwhile, Summer Wuyou had finished her shopping and returned home. She’d bought a feast for herself and Tangdou as planned, yet the news of the explosion still cast a shadow over her mood.

She looked at Tangdou, who knew nothing of sorrow, wagging his tail to please her. She opened a new can of dog food and scooped it into his bowl.

Ruffling his head, she sighed, “A young man just lost his life. Tangdou, you have to stay healthy and live a long, long time with your big sister.”

Having lost both her parents, Summer Wuyou couldn’t bear any more farewells.

Perhaps Tangdou understood, for he suddenly began barking furiously at something behind her.

“What’s wrong, Tangdou?”

Noticing that he was barking at something behind her, Summer Wuyou turned around.

“You are…?” she exclaimed in terror.
