Chapter 6: Each Has Their Own Strengths
The suspicion toward Su Ye was still just a conjecture; the investigation was proceeding more deeply.
“Captain Su, these people are really hard to meet! They’re all so busy. If we weren’t from the Public Security Bureau, ordinary folks probably couldn’t even get a glimpse of them!”
Xiao Wang followed behind Su Tianmu, trotting to keep up with his pace.
This company was truly impressive—perhaps because it dealt in real estate, its own building was remarkably beautiful.
Judging by the eye, the scale of the company was anything but small. The bustling staff in the lobby and the rows of newly constructed residential models in the showroom gave the impression that this real estate sales company was thriving.
“Please come in, sir!”
The hostess at the entrance invited Su Tianmu and his party in with impeccable politeness, her professional smile devoid of any emotion—a clear sign of specialized training.
“Sir, would you like coffee or tea? Please wait a moment, our Chairman will be here shortly.”
Her voice was gentle.
“No need to trouble yourself, just carry on with your work,” Su Tianmu replied, maintaining his usual stern demeanor, not sparing the beauty a second glance.
“I’ll have a cup of coffee, thank you!”
Xiao Wang tried to look serious, tugging at his police uniform to appear more spirited. Youthful as he was, beautiful things always lifted his mood.
Su Tianmu glanced back at him, shooting a look sharp enough to cut.
“Sorry to keep you waiting!”
The door to the reception room swung open, and in strode a stout, middle-aged man. His features were decent, but the toll of age and prosperity had altered his figure and appearance.
Ah, those filters! Xiao Wang sighed inwardly, struggling to reconcile the difference between the man in person and his magazine photos. It seemed unlikely that Wang Meiqi would be interested in him.
“Chairman Dong, hello! We’re here today to learn more about Wang Meiqi’s case. If you’re willing, could you tell us about the interview she conducted with you?”
Su Tianmu briefly explained their purpose.
“Oh, that interview! I’ve heard about Editor Wang’s situation. Such a pity—a talented chief editor, so young.”
Dong Dali’s regret appeared genuine.
Su Tianmu signaled for him to continue.
“The interview went very well! After the article was published, it brought great publicity for our company. I really must thank Miss Wang…”
Chairman Dong came across as a straightforward fellow; despite running such a large company, his honest nature was plain to see.
“Thank you for your cooperation.”
After leaving the building, Xiao Wang was still caught up in the fervor of Dong Dali’s speech.
“That Dong Dali is really something. You know, he turned things around after such losses, even achieving a sweeping victory. That takes incredible perseverance!”
Xiao Wang was clearly captivated by the aura of the entrepreneur.
“I think you should consider switching careers. Being a police officer seems a waste for you!”
Su Tianmu shifted the topic.
“What did you learn from the interview? Do you think there’s anything suspicious about him?”
The abrupt question left Xiao Wang flustered; he quickly reviewed the conversation in his mind.
“There doesn’t seem to be anything suspicious. Appearance-wise, he’s not a match for Wang Meiqi, but if she’s only after wealth, who knows.”
He continued processing.
“But I did feel he rated Wang Meiqi a bit too highly—almost insincerely.”
“You’re right. But since this is a murder case, nobody wants to be tied to it; his reaction is understandable.”
Su Tianmu responded.
The second interviewee was easier to communicate with: Wang Tianhe, chairman of a tech company. A typical IT man, he showed no abnormality during questioning. The conversation felt like a debate—calm, composed, every answer airtight.
He was basically ruled out as a suspect; aside from internet jargon, he hardly uttered words from other fields. It seemed he had no interest in anything else, like a visitor from another world.
Ding Wei, producer of organic glass, was next. His real-life appearance was not much different from his magazine photos—perhaps even more charismatic. Medium height, well-proportioned, not old, but sporting a neat mustache and gold-rimmed glasses—clearly a shrewd businessman.
“My impression of Editor Wang is good. She’s beautiful, cheerful, just a bit too clever. Sometimes clever people make others feel uneasy.”
His assessment of Wang Meiqi was candid; Su Tianmu was favorably impressed—he liked straightforward people.
“Were you satisfied with her interview?”
Su Tianmu glanced at Xiao Wang, signaling him to take notes.
“I was. Their magazine has a solid reputation, or I wouldn’t have agreed to the interview.”
Ding Wei spoke, but seemed unwilling to elaborate further.
Su Tianmu noticed his desk was meticulously organized—surely the mark of someone with type A blood.
“Is this your father? Was he in the military?”
He shifted the topic.
In a group photo, a boy of about fifteen or sixteen stood beside a man in camouflage. Despite the age gap, the child was instantly recognizable as Ding Wei.
“Yes, my father was a soldier.”
Ding Wei took the frame reverently, wiped it, and set it back.
The final interviewee was Wang Peishan.
He seemed nervous seeing the police, but his handsome appearance and fashionable demeanor remained unshaken. The office’s interior boasted a strong sense of design—clearly a man of taste.
Xiao Wang glanced at a half-nude female sculpture nearby, found it wasn’t to his liking, and shifted his gaze elsewhere.
“Officers, what do you want to ask? I wasn’t close to Editor Wang—apart from the interview, we had no private contact whatsoever.”
Before Su Tianmu could begin, Wang Peishan started explaining himself.
