Chapter Nineteen: The Delight Inn
Chapter Nineteen: The Delightful Inn
Wang Zhongtian froze, then suddenly smashed the wine glass in his hand and pointed a finger at Shi Bai’s nose. “Who do you think you are slamming the table at, huh?”
Ye Ying’er hurriedly grabbed Wang Zhongtian’s arm. “Wang Zhongtian! If you keep causing trouble here, get out!”
Wang Zhongtian was taken aback, not expecting Ye Ying’er to defend Shi Bai so fiercely, and so he looked toward Shangguan Yunfei.
Shangguan Yunfei held a wine glass, not bothering to look at anyone, and spoke coldly. “Ying’er, is that how you speak to Zhongtian? All for an outsider—is it really worth it?”
Ye Ying’er ignored him, her gaze full of concern as she glanced at Shi Bai and hurried over. “I’m sorry. If I’d known, I wouldn’t have invited them.”
Everyone’s expression froze, their movements halting. A boy with thick brows and large eyes slammed his chopsticks down.
“Ye Ying’er! What’s wrong with you? Just because of this outsider, you’re denying all of us? What, do you want us all to leave?”
“No!” Ye Ying’er was about to explain, but Shangguan Yunfei interjected, “Wang Yun, that’s enough.”
“What do you mean, enough?” Wang Yun was not to be trifled with. “Is Ye Ying’er your woman? If she is, why doesn’t she listen to you? Why is she always siding with this country bumpkin? Are you being cuckolded?”
Shangguan Yunfei suddenly crushed a wine glass in his hand, shards scattering everywhere.
“Outrageous!”
“Outrageous? So be it!” Wang Yun stood up as well. “Do you think I’m afraid of you?”
“Stop arguing, all of you!” The petite Lin Xiaoqian suddenly shouted, her voice so loud the ceiling lights burst.
“Don’t you realize what’s going on?” Lin Xiaoqian said. “Clearly, it’s this country bumpkin’s fault, so why are you fighting among yourselves?”
Wang Yun and Shangguan Yunfei exchanged glances, finally recognizing the real issue, and simultaneously turned their attention to Shi Bai—who was locked in a life-or-death struggle with a tiny octopus, battling to eat and be eaten.
“Ying’er!” Shangguan Yunfei pointed at Shi Bai and shouted, “Today, it’s either us or him—you must choose!”
“That’s right!” Wang Yun sided with Shangguan Yunfei. “If we’re here, he’s not. If he’s here, we’re not!”
“Exactly!”
“Exactly!”
…
Ye Ying’er’s old classmates all stood up.
Ye Ying’er looked at them, then at Shi Bai, feeling deeply regretful. What was meant to be an ordinary birthday party had turned into a mess because she wanted to draw Shi Bai in, leaving her caught between worlds.
Choosing between her classmates and Shi Bai was almost impossible—one represented her social circle, the other the person her parents wanted her to befriend. She glanced left and right, nearly in tears.
“Ying’er, hurry and choose!” Shangguan Yunfei pressed on relentlessly.
“That’s right!” Wang Yun agreed. “Today, you can’t leave this unresolved!”
Ye Ying’er collapsed onto the sofa, covering her ears and crying out, “I don’t know! I don’t know! Stop forcing me, can’t you?”
“Ying’er,” Lin Xiaoqian said, “We’re not trying to force you, but we’re all here eating together, and you brought an outsider—it really kills the mood!”
“Exactly! Who are we, and who is he?”
Ye Ying’er looked helplessly at Shi Bai, her eyes full of apology. She gathered her courage and spoke to Shangguan Yunfei and the others, “Even though Shi is not one of us martial artists, he truly is an extraordinary person! His presence at our table is actually a favor to us, don’t you see?”
Everyone was stunned.
Wang Zhongtian’s eyes widened. “He’s extraordinary? Ying’er, are you being duped? I already tested him—he has no internal energy at all!”
“Right! He looks just like an ordinary person.”
Ye Ying’er replied, “He may not have internal energy, but his strength is still remarkable. As for his true identity, I can’t reveal it without permission.”
“That’s enough, Ying’er!” Shangguan Yunfei insisted. “Don’t make up stories just to protect him. If you’re too embarrassed to ask him to leave, let me do it!”
Shangguan Yunfei leapt in front of Shi Bai. “Kid, come with me!”
“No!” Ye Ying’er shouted at Shangguan Yunfei. “He’s not someone you can afford to provoke!”
The crowd was stunned again.
But Shangguan Yunfei grew even angrier at Ye Ying’er’s words. “I am the eldest son of Matsushita Sword Manor, the son of the Ancient City Sword Saint Shangguan Feng, and you dare say I can’t provoke him? I’ll tell you, there’s no one in this city I can’t provoke!” With that, he raised a palm toward Shi Bai’s chest.
“Stop!” At that moment, Ye Ying’er’s driver rushed in, grabbed Shangguan Yunfei, and set him aside.
“Sorry, Yunfei. Mr. Shi is a guest of the Ye family. We must treat him well. You may disrespect him, but you must respect the Ye family.”
His words left everyone speechless. Since even the Ye family’s driver had spoken, there was no room for further nonsense.
Though Matsushita Sword Manor was powerful in the city, the Ye family was not to be underestimated—especially in financial matters, where they far outstripped the Sword Manor. So respect had to be given.
“Fine!” Shangguan Yunfei was the first to relent. “Let’s eat cake.”
“Great!” Lin Qian’er quickly clapped her hands. “This is the most important part!”
Soon, a little cart carrying a nine-tiered cake was wheeled in. Everyone applauded and sang the birthday song. Ye Ying’er blew out the candles and made her wish, completing the sushi restaurant’s mission, and then everyone got into their cars and headed to the Delightful Inn.
The mention of the Delightful Inn instantly revived Shi Bai’s spirits. He kept asking about it along the way, but Lin Qian’er refused to answer, while Ye Ying’er explained everything in detail.
It turned out that the so-called Delightful Inn was, in essence, a secret gathering place for martial artists—a high-end club of sorts.
Not only did it feature rare treasures from all over the country, but also exotic cuisine and performances, naturally attracting martial artists from far and wide.
After winding through several twists and turns, their car finally arrived in a hidden alley, where attendants parked for them. They walked about a kilometer before entering a general store.
Yes, an ordinary hardware shop with a tiny front, shelves packed with light bulbs, faucets, wires, kettles, even cement and lime.
Shi Bai looked around curiously. “Is it really here?”
Ye Ying’er tapped him. “Keep your voice down, don’t say a word.”
Once inside, the shopkeeper led them through a back door and across a storeroom, and suddenly before their eyes appeared people dressed in ancient costumes.
Shi Bai’s eyes lit up in amazement. “Martial heroes really do exist!”
Shangguan Yunfei rolled his eyes. “Ying’er, let’s go upstairs to listen to stories and drink.”
“Alright!”
Everyone hurried upstairs, but as soon as they reached the staircase, a waiter blocked their way.
“Sorry, everyone. The restaurant has been booked out tonight.”
“Booked?” Ye Ying’er asked. “Didn’t we reserve seats?”
The waiter replied, “I’m truly sorry. Those who came tonight are not people to mess with, so your seats have been requisitioned.”
“What?” Lin Qian’er exclaimed. “We reserved these seats—who dares take them?”
