Chapter Forty-One: Astonishing the Entire Audience
Chapter 41: Shock to the Whole Court
Everyone stood in stunned silence, as if time itself had frozen. Only the basketball bounced aimlessly on the floor before rolling off to the side.
“Holy crap!”
At last, someone snapped out of it. “It went in! A half-court three-pointer!”
“This is insane!”
“I’ve lived my whole life and never seen a shot like that!”
The entire Class One erupted with joy, jumping up and down in excitement. Especially their class monitor, Sun Wencai, who clenched his fist and said, “With that shot, even if we lose, we won’t be ashamed!”
The gym teacher looked at Shi Bai with admiration in his eyes. “This kid always manages to pull off the most unexpected things!”
Ye Ying’er, however, simply blinked and revealed a look of calm anticipation. “See, I told you—he’s not one to act recklessly.”
“Hmph!” But Class Six didn’t see it that way, especially their female class monitor, Zhang Shuyi.
She rolled her eyes and scoffed, “What’s there to be happy about? He just got lucky, like a blind cat stumbling on a dead mouse. Give him the ball and let him try again—see if he can make it.”
“Exactly!” the Class Six students echoed. “And with the score difference so big, they don’t stand a chance!”
“That’s right! As long as our Xiujie is here, no one else matters.”
The cheerleaders for Class Six quickly started chanting, “Class Six! Class Six! Second to none!”
The girls supporting Li Xiujie joined in too, “Xiujie! Xiujie! Unstoppable!”
The momentum in the gym swung right back to their side.
At that moment, the score was 30 to 7. Li Xiujie took possession of the ball and, with a smile, said to Shi Bai, “I passed to you out of pity last time. Don’t expect that again!” With that, he dribbled swiftly toward Class One’s basket.
But as soon as he took a few steps, Shi Bai repeated his earlier move, stretching out both hands and chanting, “Pass to me, pass to me, pass to me…”
The audience broke into laughter. “Is this kid really that dumb or just pretending? Does he really think Li Xiujie will pass to him?”
“Hahaha…”
“Idiot!” Zhang Tongtong crossed her arms coldly.
Li Xiujie sneered at Shi Bai. “Do you take me for a fool? As if I’d pass to you again!” He drove inside the three-point line, leaped, and prepared to shoot.
But just as he was airborne, before the ball left his hand, his body twisted unexpectedly, and to his own shock, he passed the ball to Shi Bai.
Thud!
Thud!
Thud!
Thud!
Thud!
Again, that sound echoed in everyone’s hearts.
“Li Xiujie! Are you trying to be funny now?”
“Hahahaha… You guys are a riot!”
“Is this a comedy show today?”
Li Xiujie was still in shock, but hearing their jeers, he quickly scratched his head and forced a laugh. “Haha! The game was getting too intense, so I thought I’d lighten the mood!” But inside, he was screaming, What the hell is wrong with me?!
“Pass it to me!” At that moment, Wang Xiaolong shouted at Shi Bai, “You just got lucky last time. This time there’s no way!”
“Yeah! Pass it to Wang Xiaolong!” Zhang Tongtong yelled.
But Shi Bai stood there holding the ball, unmoved. “No.”
“…"
“You’ve done enough!” Even the class’s arts committee member, Zheng Yuhan, couldn’t take it. “Just leave it at that, Shi Bai!”
“She’s right!” the other girls called out. “Listen to reason!”
Shi Bai just glanced at them indifferently, unmoved, which made the girls stomp their feet and sigh in frustration.
But just then, Shi Bai threw the ball behind his back again.
Under everyone’s astonished gaze, the basketball traced a beautiful arc through the air—swish!
It went in.
“Holy crap!” The whole gym erupted. “He did it again!”
“Incredible!”
“Two half-court three-pointers in a row! I’ve never seen anything like it!” Even the gym teacher shouted.
Wang Xiaolong and Zhang Tongtong were completely dumbfounded, mumbling, “Is this for real?”
Li Xiujie was even more shocked, eyes wide as he stared at the distant hoop, a single thought repeating endlessly in his mind: How is this possible? How is this possible?
Class Six’s students were equally stunned, mouths agape as if they’d seen a ghost in broad daylight.
But the evidence was right there—they had no choice but to believe it.
The score now stood at 30 to 10.
The Class Six players were starting to get uneasy. One of them said to Li Xiujie, “Xiujie, I think that kid has some real skill. You can’t mess around anymore.”
“That’s right! Stop giving him the ball,” the others agreed.
Li Xiujie wanted to protest, This isn’t me giving him the ball—it's like I’m possessed! But he couldn’t say that out loud, so he just nodded. “No problem! Don’t worry, there’s no way we’ll lose, right?”
His teammates laughed. “Not a chance!”
So Class Six got the ball again and, as always, passed it to Li Xiujie—their star player.
But the moment Li Xiujie got the ball, he felt a wave of anxiety, because Shi Bai was doing it again: “Pass to me, pass to me, pass to me…”
“Damn it!” Shangguan Renjie shouted, “Once is a fluke, twice is coincidence—do you really think I’m an idiot?” Yet, he suddenly hurled the ball to Shi Bai.
Thud!
Thud!
Thud!
Thud!
Thud!
…
The crowd was speechless. If it had been funny the first time, what was it now? If this kept up, it was no longer a game, but a ceremony of friendly gifting!
“Li Xiujie! What the hell are you doing?” Someone finally couldn’t take it anymore. “This isn’t fun anymore!”
“Yeah!” the audience shouted. “Do you want to play or not? Are you guys a couple or something, always passing to that guy?!”
Only Ye Ying’er smiled sweetly. Although she didn’t know exactly what Shi Bai had done, she was certain it was his doing. “This guy, haha…”
Even Li Xiujie’s fangirls fell silent, glancing between Li Xiujie and Shi Bai with complicated emotions.
“Screw this!” Li Xiujie roared, “Teacher! He’s cheating!” He pointed at Shi Bai, his hand trembling. “He… he… he’s misleading people!”
The gym teacher, serving as referee, was at a loss. He looked at Shi Bai and could only say, “Don’t do that again. Can’t you see your classmate is about to have a breakdown?”
Shi Bai glanced at Li Xiujie, realizing it really wasn’t fun to keep this up, so he nodded.
“Alright!” The teacher blew his whistle. “Game on!”
Now the ball was still in Shi Bai’s hands, but nobody asked him to pass anymore. Even Wang Xiaolong could see Shi Bai wasn’t ordinary—after all, making two half-court shots like that was no small feat. Just the strength alone was beyond most people.
But at that moment, Li Xiujie suddenly shouted, “Stop him! Don’t let him shoot again!”
All the Class Six players hesitated—they never expected Li Xiujie to be scared of anyone—but they quickly rushed at Shi Bai.
Shi Bai glanced at them, smiled slightly, then leapt high and bounced the ball between his legs.
Everyone gasped, “What’s he doing?!”
The basketball slammed hard against the floor, then—thud!—bounced toward the basket.
Off the backboard, and in.
Another score.
