Chapter Eighty-Five: Master Long Five
Chapter 85: Lord Long Wu
Shi Bai sighed helplessly. “Why are you so dense? Of course a ghost’s hand wouldn’t break off. Ghosts don’t have bodies; they’re nothing but light and shadow. What do they have to break with? So, you’re not dead at all!”
The female host, startled by Shi Bai’s shout, gradually came to her senses. Indeed, the dead would not be in her current state, and if the underworld existed, it certainly wouldn’t be in a hotel.
Slowly accepting the truth, the woman looked hopefully at Shi Bai and stretched out her broken hand.
Shi Bai gave a faint smile. “Aren’t you forgetting something?”
She paused, biting her lip. “Since you can even bring the dead back, then my family needn’t be worried. Alright, I’ll tell you who wants to kill you.”
Shi Bai regarded her seriously. Her gaze flickered, and she suddenly seemed a delicate, helpless young woman—her fierce demeanor gone, replaced by vulnerability. Yet she was clearly nearly six feet tall.
“It’s Lord Long Wu of the Old City.”
“Lord Long Wu?” Shi Bai repeated. “Who’s that? I’ve never heard of him.”
She blinked. “You’ve never heard of Lord Long Wu?”
Shi Bai shook his head. “No. Tell me about him.”
She glanced at him and began, “Long Wu is the most powerful figure in the Old City, commanding countless followers. Most of the city’s real estate and key resources are in his hands. But he’s a low-key man, prefers to stay out of sight, making decisions from the shadows. To this day, very few have ever seen his true face.”
Shi Bai asked, “Where does he live?”
“He lives in Qianlong Villa.”
Shi Bai considered this. “And your family, where are they?”
“They’re at home,” she replied. “But they’re all within Lord Long Wu’s reach. If he wanted their lives, a single word would suffice.”
Shi Bai nodded. “I understand.” Rising to his feet, he said, “I’ll help you solve all your problems.” With that, he prepared to leave.
But just then, she lunged forward, hugging him tightly from behind.
“Take me with you! If you leave, I’m as good as dead!”
Shi Bai was taken aback. “Don’t worry. Stay here. Within two days, I’ll wipe out Lord Long Wu’s power.”
“No!” She held him even tighter, her demeanor softening, her voice gentle. “I want to go with you. I feel safe by your side.”
A wave of heat surged through Shi Bai. The warmth against his back stirred a forbidden desire within him.
“No, I can’t take you with me.”
But she seemed not to hear, her hands roaming over him, her breathing growing heavier.
Shi Bai grew restless and agitated. He was a young man, after all, full-blooded and passionate—how could he endure such provocation?
But his heart already belonged to another; he would not allow himself to be so easily tempted. He pushed her away.
She stepped back, tears glimmering at the corners of her eyes as she gazed at him. Slowly, she unfastened her buttons, letting a light garment slip to the floor.
“I’m willing to give you everything, if only you’ll take me with you.”
Shi Bai was stunned, feeling as if two streams of blood would gush from his nose.
“Damn it! Even the mildest person can’t put up with this!”
Faced with such provocation, how could he not respond? If word got out, he’d be laughed at for life!
Reason was slipping away. “At worst, I’ll just get scolded for it!” He took a bold step forward, a battle on the brink of eruption.
But then, her phone rang.
She picked it up, glanced at the screen, and her face turned pale. She flung the phone to the floor.
Shi Bai frowned and picked it up. “Steward Wang?”
She replied, “He works for Lord Long Wu!”
Shi Bai thought for a moment. “Don’t be afraid. Just speak as usual.” He answered the call, put it on speaker, and handed it to her.
She took the phone with trembling hands. “Hello, Steward Wang.”
A hoarse male voice came from the other end. “Hello, Xiao Wen. How did it go?”
She looked wide-eyed at Shi Bai, who whispered, “Tell him they’re all dead.”
She caught on. “The plan… the plan failed.”
Steward Wang didn’t sound surprised. “Mmm, all of Xiao Li’s radio signals are dead. I guessed as much. So what’s your situation now? Is that punk holding you?”
She jumped. “I—I’m fine. He hasn’t done anything to me. He doesn’t seem willing to hurt women.”
“Oh?” The voice was suspicious. “So he let you go? Didn’t force you to say anything?”
Her heart skipped a beat. She almost fainted. “No… he didn’t force me.”
“Good. Remember, your entire family is still in our hands.”
“Yes! I—I never forget!”
The call ended. Whatever mood had been between them was now gone. She still seemed eager for more, but at that moment, Shi Bai’s phone rang again.
He glanced at the screen—Ye Ying’er was calling. He was surprised.
“Hello?”
“Hello, Mr. Shi?”
“It’s me. What is it?”
The voice on the other end was odd—faintly angry, yet somehow guilty. “What… are you doing right now?”
Shi Bai was startled. What was he doing? He was standing in front of a beautiful, nearly naked woman, unsure what to do. How did this girl know to ask?
“Me? Nothing, really,” he replied.
“Did you go see that female host?” Ye Ying’er suddenly blurted out.
Shi Bai considered. “Yes, but I have business to attend to.”
“Is that so?” Her tone sounded wounded, but then suddenly brightened. “We made a big dinner tonight. Come join us!”
Shi Bai was taken aback. The girl was behaving strangely. But with this, all the tension between him and the female host dissipated.
“Alright. I needed to see your grandfather anyway.”
“Great!” She sounded excited. “Come quickly!”
“Alright.”
After hanging up, Shi Bai looked helplessly at the woman, who had dressed and poured herself a glass of red wine. “Girlfriend?” she asked.
“No.”
She smiled quietly, saying nothing more.
Shi Bai drove to Ye Rulong’s house. Ye Rulong was already waiting at the door. Without pleasantries, Shi Bai got straight to the point. “Who is Lord Long Wu?”
Ye Rulong and Ye Xingzu’s faces both changed. They exchanged a glance. Ye Rulong asked, “Master, did you offend him?”
Shi Bai was surprised. “He’s the one who started it. Just tell me, what is his background?”
Ye Rulong hesitated. “Lord Long Wu… is not someone to be taken lightly!”
