Chapter 107: The King of Boasts

Lin Shuyu listened as Wang Qi and Zhang Yi exchanged words eagerly, nearly deciding on the banquet arrangements. She suddenly frowned, growing a bit impatient. Zhang Yi’s ignorance was one thing, but what was Wang Qi thinking? He clearly knew she was married. With such wealth as a second-generation rich heir, there must be countless women vying for his attention—so why persist in provoking a married woman like her?
Seeing Lin Shuyu’s furrowed brow, Zhang Yi assumed she was displeased with the restaurant. Smiling, he said, “Sister-in-law, don’t you want to hold your banquet here at Pengzhan Restaurant?”
“I should warn you,” he continued, “unless Brother Qi pulls some strings, anyone else wanting to book a banquet here would have to reserve a year or more in advance.”
“Pengzhan Restaurant is backed by the Huaizhou Club. Opening a restaurant here means Pengzhan and the Huaizhou Club have a very close relationship.”
“Lin Shuyu probably knows now that Pengzhan Restaurant is connected to Liang Zhanpeng from Huaizhou, right?”
Wang Qi smiled knowingly. He had long known Pengzhan was run by the Liang family, but hearing it come from his mouth and then from Zhang Yi’s made it feel different.
Zhang Yi went on, “Pengzhan has three branches in Huaizhou alone. Don’t be fooled by the small number; their annual revenue is at least half a billion yuan!”
“That much? Impossible!” Chen Yingying exclaimed. “Half a billion in revenue means the restaurant group at least splits half the profits. So four restaurants would earn 250 million yuan a year?”
Zhang Yi laughed, “That’s a conservative estimate. Dining here costs far more than a five-star hotel meal. Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if Pengzhan’s annual revenue hits a billion yuan.”
“But for such a powerful restaurant to be run just by the steward’s son of Liang Zhanpeng—well, that just shows how formidable the Liang family is. Zhang’s family is wealthy, but their hidden assets probably don’t match up to the Liangs.”
Zhang Yi was thoroughly enjoying his boasting. When the wine arrived, he poured a glass for everyone.
Chen Yingying took hers without hesitation, but Lin Shuyu shook her head, not touching a drop.
After a few glasses, Chen Yingying seemed tipsy. Hearing Zhang Yi still brag, she scoffed, “Hmph! I thought the owner of this restaurant was some big shot. Turns out he’s just working for the Liang family, probably just a salaried employee.”
Zhang Yi grew a little anxious. “Miss Chen, don’t speak so loudly. If anyone overhears us, we might never leave.”
After saying that, seeing Wang Qi frown, he quickly corrected himself, “But with Brother Qi here, no matter how angry they get, they wouldn’t dare make things difficult for us.”
“Still, it’s better to avoid trouble. After all, they’re the Liang family. Offending them wouldn’t do us any favors.”

“Hmph!” Chen Yingying snorted coldly. “So what if they’re the Liang family? Big deal.”
“That Liang Jiajie was trying to chase me earlier. I didn’t even give him the time of day. Let him cool his heels wherever he wants!”
“He’s ugly. Who would deign to notice him? Having some money doesn’t impress me.”
Zhang Yi’s eyes widened. “Miss Chen, you mean Liang Jiajie? He’s Liang Zhanpeng’s nephew! He’s been by Liang Zhanpeng’s side through thick and thin for over a decade. Apart from his own son, he’s the closest heir!”
“Besides, Liang Zhanpeng’s son handles major company operations; routine matters are managed by Liang Jiajie. He’s not just ‘a little’ rich—he’s very wealthy!”
“Pfft,” Chen Yingying sneered. “That’s how rich he looks to you. To me, he’s just a bit wealthy.”
“What? You don’t believe me?”
Chen Yingying’s cheeks flushed, clearly a bit drunk. Zhang Yi looked skeptical but knew arguing with someone intoxicated was futile. He waved his hand dismissively, saying, “Let’s drop it.”
“Smack!”
Chen Yingying suddenly slammed a jewelry box onto the table in anger.
“Don’t believe me? Look at this! Liang Jiajie just gave this to me to win my favor!”
Zhang Yi awkwardly smiled. He thought she was bluffing, but upon opening the box and seeing the diamond necklace inside, he was stunned.
He recognized the quality immediately—it was undoubtedly expensive, yet he still doubted Liang Jiajie had given it to her.
Pushing the necklace back to Chen Yingying, he smiled, “Miss Chen, you truly are a wealthy beauty. This necklace must be worth at least a million yuan. But Liang Jiajie is indeed a formidable figure. He…”
Chen Yingying interrupted angrily, “You still don’t believe me even after seeing the necklace? Ask Wang Qi and my sister!”
At the mention of Liang Jiajie, Wang Qi’s expression darkened.
Now, seeing Zhang Yi look to him, Wang Qi reluctantly nodded. “Yingying isn’t lying. When we went to the jewelry expo earlier, Liang Jiajie did give her this diamond necklace.”
Zhang Yi was shocked but glanced at Lin Shuyu.
Lin Shuyu truly wished she could dig a hole and disappear.

If Chen Yingying weren’t her cousin, she would have left without a word.
Chen Yingying had completely twisted the truth. It was she who shamelessly tried to climb up to Liang Jiajie, but now she was acting as if Liang Jiajie had pursued her first.
Earlier, Zhang Huaiyi, son of the wealthy Zhang family, had been teasing Liang Jiajie, saying a beauty liked him but he showed no signs of interest.
Liang Jiajie was somewhat helpless. He had wanted to kick Chen Yingying away, but out of respect for his sister-in-law, he hadn’t. Instead, he casually gave her a diamond necklace.
He certainly never imagined that the necklace he gave so casually would become “evidence” that he was trying to court Chen Yingying.
Though a bit drunk, Chen Yingying was clever enough only to ask whether the necklace was from Liang Jiajie.
Lin Shuyu, unwilling to embarrass her cousin, nodded reluctantly.
Damn!
Really?
Zhang Yi trembled slightly.
Who was Liang Jiajie? If Wang Qi was a rich heir he needed to reach up to, then Liang Jiajie was the super-rich heir Wang Qi himself had to look up to.
Not to mention Wang Qi, even Wang Qi’s father would probably respectfully call the younger Liang Jiajie “Brother Jie.”
“Pardon me!” Zhang Yi quickly stood and rubbed his hands. He had been so focused on Wang Qi that he’d neglected Chen Yingying. Now, being sharp, he wanted to make amends.
Just as Zhang Yi was about to grit his teeth and ask Chen Yingying if she wanted to try the 1982 Lafite, someone suddenly entered the private room.
Seeing the newcomer wasn’t a waiter and dressed entirely in cheap street-vendor clothes, Zhang Yi frowned sharply and snapped, “Damn it! What are you staring at? You’re in the wrong room—get out now!”
