He has no future.
“If you want to go, go by yourself.”
“You’ve always been better at shameless things like this.”
Lin Shuyu summoned her last bit of strength to retort, but could barely support herself, propping both hands on the ground.
Instead of being angered, Lin Shuqi merely laughed. “You idiot! What good does pretending to be so virtuous do you?”
“Yes, I admit I’m shameless! But at least I only debase myself for those rich heirs. You? Ha! Even a useless coward like Hong Yu comes running to your door. Lin Shuyu, do you really have the right to call me shameless?”
“Take your hands off the ground. Kneel properly!”
Lin Shuyu’s face was ashen, her trembling arms barely able to hold her up—she was almost lying flat.
Just then, Hong Yu arrived on his electric bike. Seeing the situation, he didn’t hesitate; he abandoned the bike, lunged forward, and delivered a flying kick that knocked Lin Shuqi to the ground, then quickly helped Lin Shuyu to her feet.
“Damn it! Who the hell are you?”
“Hong Yu, you dog! How dare you touch me? You’re dead! You’re so dead!”
Lin Shuqi shrieked like a fishwife, but Hong Yu and Lin Shuyu ignored her.
The two exchanged a look full of feeling. Hong Yu’s voice was full of pain. “Why are you so foolish? Why didn’t you talk to me about this first?”
Lin Shuyu gave a bitter smile. “If I’d asked, you would never have let me come.”
“But I have Lin family blood in me…”
Hong Yu pulled her into his arms. “Enough. Let’s go home first.”
Seeing Hong Yu about to take Lin Shuyu away, Lin Shuqi shouted, “Damn you, try leaving! If the Zhang family hasn’t given their approval, Lin Shuyu has to kneel here today—kneel until she dies!”
“If you want to die, keep running your mouth!” Hong Yu’s eyes flashed coldly as he turned.
Lin Shuyu was startled by Hong Yu’s tone—she hadn’t expected this. At that moment, Lin Jiahao appeared, stepping out of a car nearby with several men.
Lin Jiahao shouted angrily, “You spineless wretch, you still have the nerve to show your face? Get lost! Leave right now!”
Hong Yu frowned. “I’d leave even if you didn’t say so. Who would want to stay in a hellhole like this?”
“You can leave, but Xiaoyu has to stay! This is Lin family business, and you’re an outsider—you have no right to interfere!” Lin Jiahao pointed at Lin Shuyu.
Hong Yu retorted furiously, “Are you stupid? Weren’t you the one who wanted to kick Xiaoyu out of the family yesterday? Now you say this is Lin family business?”
Lin Jiahao sneered, “I don’t owe you any explanation about what happens in the Lin family! Get out now, or I’ll have someone throw you out.”
As soon as he finished, the men beside him stepped forward.
A round of sarcastic applause rang out.
“What a show!” At some point, the gates of the Zhang family home had swung open, and Zhang Hao approached with several followers, smiling.
“Master Hao! This has nothing to do with us Lin family!” Lin Jiahao’s eyes lit up; he hurried over to Zhang Hao. “It’s all that loser’s fault. If anyone’s to blame, it’s him. If you want to deal with someone, deal with him!”
Zhang Hao laughed. “Ha, sorry, I honestly don’t want to get involved.”
At first, Zhang Hao had been just as bewildered. He’d complained to his father about it the night before, hoping his father would step in. But his father, seeing that Zhang Hao was unharmed and still full of bluster, kicked him out without a word.
He only learned about the Lin family’s predicament that morning. When he saw Lin Shuyu coming to their door, of course he wouldn’t reveal the truth.
He was still upset about how Lin Shuyu had treated him last time; now he planned to make her kneel for half a day, and then have her beg to climb into his bed herself.
Hong Yu fixed his gaze on Zhang Hao. “Wipe that grin off your face. You’d better stay out of this.”
“If I could beat you once, I can beat you again.”
“Shut up!” Before Zhang Hao could react, Lin Jiahao jumped in with a roar. “Are you trying to drag our family down with you again?”
“All of you, get him—hold him down first!”
With a signal from Lin Jiahao, the men lunged at Hong Yu.
Hong Yu was a decent fighter, but against several burly men, he was quickly overwhelmed and pinned to the ground.
“No, Uncle, please don’t!” Lin Shuyu, utterly spent, could only cry out in desperation.
Zhang Hao crouched in front of Hong Yu, grinning. “Tsk, tsk… Still thinking of hitting me again?”
“Thick-skinned, aren’t you…?” With a slap, he struck Hong Yu across the face.
Zhang Hao backhanded Hong Yu, then smiled as he asked, “Are you going to give in or not? If not, I’ll just keep going.”
“Give in to hell!” Hong Yu refused to bow his head. “If you have the guts, kill me—if not, I swear I’ll kill you myself!”
“Damn it, still so stubborn?” Lin Jiahao looked even angrier than Zhang Hao. He spat out a curse and stepped over. “Master Hao, Hong Yu was never one of us. Now that he’s in your hands, do as you please—don’t worry about us.”
“Oh? Then I’ll have to think carefully about how to deal with him,” Zhang Hao pretended to hesitate, but inwardly he was thrilled.
Lin Shuqi, having been frightened earlier, now saw Hong Yu held down and felt a wave of satisfaction. Her gaze drifted to Zhang Hao.
Compared to Zhao Minghui, Zhang Hao attracted her far more. Zhao Minghui’s family was rooted in Yulong—seducing him would bring little real benefit. But Zhang Hao was different: he was a major figure in Fengzhou. The Lin family was thrown into chaos in a single night—how could she not be tempted?
Putting on her most seductive airs, Lin Shuqi approached Zhang Hao and whispered, “Master Hao, there’s no need to waste your energy on trash like Hong Yu. Just have your men break his arms and legs.”
“Oh? And who might you be?” Zhang Hao looked her up and down.
“Master Hao, I’m Lin Shuqi, Lin Shuyu’s cousin.” After a brief introduction, she sidled closer. “Lin Shuyu is such a fool. A talented young man like you takes an interest in her—she should consider herself blessed. She’s too stupid to appreciate it, but I’m not like her.”
Zhang Hao had more than a handful of women—he knew exactly what Lin Shuqi was implying.
Lin Shuqi wasn’t as pretty or well-shaped as Lin Shuyu, but as a married woman she was voluptuous enough. Zhang Hao swallowed hard, then said softly, “You’re quite perceptive.”
He leaned close and murmured in her ear, “Let’s not beat around the bush. Tell me—are you interested?”
“You’re terrible.” Lin Shuqi gave a coquettish pout, then nodded. “Of course. Who in Fengzhou wouldn’t want to get involved with you?”
Her words stroked Zhang Hao’s ego, filling him with confidence. He wanted to pull Lin Shuqi away immediately, but glancing at Lin Shuyu’s pale face, he grinned wickedly. “Shuqi, why don’t you try talking to your cousin?”
“If you can persuade her to join you, I’ll forget about the Lin family’s mistakes. Whatever you want, I’ll buy it for you.”
Lin Shuqi was tempted, but seeing Hong Yu still struggling and roaring on the ground, she hesitated. “If it were just us, I could try. But with Hong Yu here—you see how he’s like a wild beast—I’m afraid of what he might do later…”
“What are you afraid of?” Zhang Hao smiled confidently, pointing at Hong Yu. “Once I’m finished, do you think he’ll ever have another chance?”
