The water in the bathtub was tinged with blood.

Lin Shuyu’s face was deathly pale, her wrist limp and submerged in the water.

“What’s going on? Hong Yu, what are you shouting for, you useless fool?” Chen Lan, startled by the commotion, hurried into the bathroom.

But when she saw Lin Shuyu—her only child—lying in the bloody water, Chen Lan collapsed across the edge of the tub, weeping and wailing, “My child, what happened to you? Why did you do something so foolish?”

“Call 911! Hurry, call 911!”

Chen Lan fumbled for her phone in a panic, trying to dial for emergency help, while Hong Yu grabbed a towel and pressed it to Lin Shuyu’s wrist. Feeling her still breathing, he scooped her up in his arms.

“What are you doing, you bastard?” Chen Lan’s eyes went wide with fury. She scrambled up, ready to claw at Hong Yu.

Though she’d always cursed him, she’d never actually raised a hand to him. But now, with her daughter in such a state and Hong Yu acting recklessly, how could she not be frantic?

Hong Yu kicked her aside. “Don’t get in the way. There’s no time to wait for an ambulance. I have to get Xiaoyu to the hospital now.”

“Yes, you’re right, there’s no time!” At that moment, Chen Lan didn’t care that Hong Yu had struck her. She would do anything if it meant saving Lin Shuyu.

“I’ll go start the car! Wait for me!” Chen Lan called out as she saw Hong Yu rushing out of the room.

“No need!” Hong Yu threw the words over his shoulder, carrying Lin Shuyu out the door. He shouted, “Li Fei, get out here, now!”

Li Fei had just been reporting to Chen Dayong from the car when he saw Hong Yu emerge, carrying a drenched woman. He jumped out and opened the car door.

“Get back in the car!” Hong Yu sprinted over, called out, and climbed in with Lin Shuyu. “Drive! As fast as you can. Get me to the hospital.”

Li Fei stammered, “Mr. Hong, what—?”

“Cut the nonsense and drive!” Hong Yu roared. “If you waste time, I’ll kill you myself!”

Seeing Hong Yu’s bloodshot eyes, Li Fei didn’t dare utter another word. He slammed the accelerator, speeding toward the hospital.

“Where did that car come from? How does Hong Yu know someone who drives a Mercedes?” Chen Lan rushed out, stunned to see Hong Yu carrying Lin Shuyu into a Mercedes. But with the situation so urgent, she didn’t dwell on it. She headed straight for her own car, calling Lin Jiahua to update him.

“Doctor! Nurse! Please, save my wife!” As soon as the car stopped at the hospital entrance, Hong Yu rushed in with Lin Shuyu in his arms, heading straight for the emergency room.

“Sir, please stay calm. Quickly, lay her down here!” Several nurses hurried over with a mobile gurney. Hong Yu set Lin Shuyu down, following anxiously until they reached the operating room, where he finally stopped.

Bang—

He slammed his fist against the wall, pupils narrowing, his eyes wild with fury.

“Damn it, I won’t let them get away with this!”

The Lin family, the Zhang family, and every other rat involved in this—none of them are getting away. They’d better pray Xiaoyu pulls through, because if anything happens to her, they’ll all pay with their lives!

Li Fei stood silently by, not daring to speak.

Only after Hong Yu calmed down a little did he approach and say, “Don’t worry, Mr. Hong. Mrs. Hong will be all right. Brother Yong has already made arrangements with the hospital director. Look—here come the best doctors they have.”

As he spoke, several doctors hurried over. Li Fei’s eyes brightened and he quickly led Hong Yu to them.

“Please, doctor, I’m counting on you.” Hong Yu grasped the lead doctor’s hands.

The doctor, no fool, knew from the director’s urgent call that this patient was highly important—there could be no mistakes.

“Rest assured, we’ll do everything we can.” The doctor returned Hong Yu’s grip, and the team entered the operating room after entering the door code.

“What happened? What’s the situation?” Chen Dayong came running up as the doctors entered.

Hong Yu had never met him, but Li Fei quickly introduced them. “Mr. Hong, this is Brother Yong.”

“Oh?” Hong Yu didn’t rise from his seat, simply glancing up with a cold response.

Chen Dayong could tell from Hong Yu’s demeanor that things were dire.

“Mr. Hong, I know I can’t shirk responsibility for what happened, but it truly was an accident.”

“An accident? You couldn’t have prepared?” Hong Yu nearly shouted, but remembering Lin Shuyu was still in surgery, he lowered his voice. “Old Gong asked you to look after me in Fengzhou. Is this what you call looking after me? Very good. You’re quite capable.”

Chen Dayong pleaded, “Mr. Hong, that’s not fair! The moment I heard you were heading to the Zhangs, I wanted to help, but remembering your previous warning, I didn’t dare interfere!”

Hong Yu paused, recalling his earlier words. After a moment’s thought, he said, “Can’t you use your own judgment? I didn’t refuse your help this time—I was simply too anxious to think clearly.”

“Share my urgency, anticipate my needs. Is that so difficult?”

Wiping the sweat from his forehead, Chen Dayong said, “Please, Mr. Hong, give me another chance. I won’t let you down again.”

“Forget it.” Hong Yu waved a hand. “If it weren’t for your men, I wouldn’t have escaped. And you called the doctors in time, so for that, I owe you thanks.”

“No need, no need!” Relief finally returned to Chen Dayong’s face; at least he’d survived this crisis.

Staring at the glowing “In Surgery” sign, Hong Yu’s eyes narrowed, his voice turning icy. “I’ll deal with the Lin and Zhang families myself later. As for those men in the grove, call and have a pit dug—bury them all.”

“If not for them, I wouldn’t have gotten home so late. Maybe if I’d made it in time, my wife wouldn’t have done something so desperate.”

Chen Dayong and Li Fei exchanged glances, each seeing the shock in the other’s eyes.

Bury them all? That’s dozens of people! If word got out, it would shake the world.

Cold sweat ran down Chen Dayong’s back. “Mr. Hong, you must think carefully. This is too big.”

Li Fei added, “Don’t be rash, Mr. Hong. Besides, the men I brought, and Bai Lao San, probably wouldn’t dare go that far.”

Hong Yu, sobered by their words, paused before replying, “Fine. They’ll be spared the death penalty, but not punishment. Make sure every one of them has their legs broken.”

“And Zhang Han—give him special treatment. Whatever you did to his brother, give him the same. I want the Zhang family wiped out!”

Both Chen Dayong and Li Fei felt cold sweat soaking their backs. To curse a family line was ruthless, but at least it was better than burying dozens alive.

Not daring to hesitate, Li Fei pulled out his phone and dialed Bai Lao San.

“What? You all left already?”

“What kind of idiots are you? Brother Yong didn’t call and you just left? You’re all dead when I get back, I swear!”

Li Fei’s curses soon rang out. Hong Yu, listening, understood what had happened.

But just as he was about to speak, the operating room doors opened.

Hong Yu leapt from his seat in fright, hurrying over to the nurse. “Nurse, what’s happened? How’s the patient?”

“The wound is too deep and she’s lost too much blood. I need to check the blood bank for available units.” The nurse hurried off, then suddenly turned back. “Are you a relative of the patient?”

“Yes, I’m her husband,” Hong Yu replied quickly.

“Her husband? Where are the rest of her family? Get them here immediately! This is serious—why isn’t there a direct relative present?”

“Do you need blood? I’m type O—can I donate?” Hong Yu asked anxiously.

“No,” the nurse explained. “The law now strictly forbids transfusions from mismatched blood types. Even with a match, we have to do compatibility and hemolysis tests. Only in the most desperate circumstances would we risk it.”

“Contact her immediate family as soon as possible. If we delay any longer, I’m afraid…”
