Chapter Seventeen: The Sound of the Waves

Lu Yiqi stared and stared, her gaze lingering on a particular spot for quite a while. His lips were really quite beautiful...

Perhaps her gaze was too intense, for Xie Xu finally looked up from his phone and fixed his eyes on her face. “Why are you looking at me like that?”

Lu Yiqi’s pupils shrank abruptly, and she hurriedly denied it. “I wasn’t looking at you!”

She sounded almost convincing.

But Xie Xu couldn’t be bothered to expose her lie. After watching the video, he spoke slowly, “I’ve finished the video. I think what we need to do now is find out who posted it.”

“How can we possibly do that? The account information is encrypted, there’s no way for us to check.”

“Drop the ‘we.’ You can’t check it.”

“So you mean you have a way?”

Xie Xu said nothing, but a glint flashed through his deep eyes, a look of utter confidence on his face.

Of course he could find out who posted it, but...

“I’m helping you out a lot this time. Have you thought about how you’ll repay me?”

The moment he mentioned repayment, four words flashed through Lu Yiqi’s mind: “Offer myself in marriage.”

Yikes.

What was she even thinking?

She would never do something like that.

“We haven’t even started and you’re already thinking about a reward? Dream on.”

“Don’t worry when Xu takes care of things.” Lu Yiqi patted Xie Xu’s shoulder, generously declaring, “Fine, once it’s done, I’ll treat you to a big meal.”

Xie Xu: ???

“That’s it?”

Lu Yiqi frowned. “Isn’t that enough? Don’t be greedy, Xie.”

“I don’t need a big meal.” Xie Xu lifted his head, leaned back, and hopped onto his own desk. He knocked his knuckles against the surface, making a soft tapping sound.

Sitting atop the desk, the young man curled his lips, a wicked smile spreading across his face. “Save your money. My birthday’s next month. Understand what I mean?”

Lu Yiqi blinked. Was he hinting that she should prepare a birthday gift for him?

For some reason, her heart suddenly sped up. She took a quiet breath and finally nodded her head awkwardly. “Alright, I get it.”

“Give me your phone,” Xie Xu said again.

Lu Yiqi assumed he wanted to look at the video, so she handed her phone over without a word.

Xie Xu took her phone with one hand, tapped on it a few times, then pulled out his own phone and did the same.

Lu Yiqi didn’t catch what he was doing, but when he handed the phone back, she glanced at the screen and saw the WeChat friends chat page.

There was just one line on the page.

“You’ve added Xu. You can start chatting now.”

Lu Yiqi: “What are you doing???”

“So you don’t get all nosy about how I’m handling things, I’m giving you a chance to add me on WeChat. If you have questions, ask me. Got it?”

Lu Yiqi spat fiercely, retorting without mercy, “But you said it yourself yesterday.”

‘Don’t bother you when there’s nothing going on, and don’t bother you even when there is. So what’s this, today you’re all eager to help and even want me to get you a birthday present... Are you afraid nobody’s going to give you one and you’ll be sad?”

Xie Xu: ?

He replied coolly, “A pig is a pig. Listen to Xu, shake your head and see if you can hear the ocean.”

Lu Yiqi: ???

Wasn’t that just saying her brain was full of water?
