Chapter 26: Changing Seats
After the incident with Xia Jing’an was resolved, Lu Yiqi enjoyed a peaceful and leisurely life. She listened to her classes attentively, and when there was nothing to do, she’d bicker with Xie Xu. Life couldn’t have been more comfortable.
Her relationship with Xie Xu seemed to progress rapidly, too. At first, she found him rather unpleasant, but now there was a sense of playful rivalry between them. This guy, aside from his sharp tongue and proud demeanor, really had no other faults.
Lu Yiqi thought to herself that she must find an opportunity to pledge brotherhood with Xie Xu someday.
But before she could find the chance, she heard that her seat was going to be changed.
When Chen Ziyi returned from the office with the news, she looked at Lu Yiqi with a complex expression. “Yiqi, do you know what I just heard in the office?”
Lu Yiqi could tell from Chen Ziyi’s look that it was nothing good. “What?”
“Didn’t the math teacher call me to the office just now? I found Xie Xu was there too, talking to the homeroom teacher. The math teacher’s desk is just across from the homeroom teacher, so I happened to overhear their conversation.”
Xie Xu had gone to the office? No wonder he’d rushed out right after class without saying where he was going.
“And then?”
“Then I heard Xie Xu say he wanted you to change seats.”
“What?!”
“Yiqi, I can’t bear to part with you, my partner and deskmate…”
“Me neither.”
The two girls were about to put on a touching scene of sisterly affection when Lu Yiqi, with her sharp eyes, spotted Xie Xu at the classroom door. He was walking to his seat, looking radiant and in a rather good mood.
Was Xie Xu this happy to break up their sisterly deskmate duo?
Without thinking, Lu Yiqi shouted his name, “Xie Xu!”
Everyone in the class was startled, including Xie Xu himself.
He instinctively glanced up at Lu Yiqi, who was radiating fury, and felt a sudden pang of guilt.
Why was this girl suddenly so angry with him? As he thought back, he realized he hadn’t teased or upset her today. Why was she so mad? He hadn’t done anything wrong.
With that in mind, Xie Xu straightened his back and regained his confidence. “What’s your problem? Why are you being so strange this early in the morning?”
“I’m strange? You’re the one being strange!”
Xie Xu: What?
“What did I do?”
Xie Xu returned to his seat, and the next moment, Lu Yiqi turned around to face him directly. “You really don’t know what you did between A and C?”
“I…” The curse almost slipped out of Xie Xu’s mouth, but he stopped himself just in time. “If you’ve got something to say, just say it. Don’t beat around the bush.”
Lu Yiqi let out a laugh of anger. “Fine, I’ll get to the point. Did you ask the homeroom teacher to change my seat?”
Xie Xu: “How did you know?”
“How I know is none of your business. Just tell me, did you or didn’t you?”
“…I did.” The usually imposing Master Xu shrank back for once.
Lu Yiqi’s earlier outburst had already drawn a lot of attention from their classmates, and now many eyes were fixed on the two of them.
It was one thing to lose face in front of Lu Yiqi, but to be embarrassed in front of everyone else—how could Master Xu maintain his dignity and authority?
“What are you all looking at? Are your grades so perfect that you can afford to waste time? Don’t you know to use your free time to study?” His cold voice resounded through the classroom. The classmates, who had been enjoying the show, immediately turned their heads and picked up their books.
Yes, study. They loved to study… yeah, right!
If it weren’t for Xie Xu’s oppressive aura, who the hell would use their spare time to study?
