Chapter 54: The Plan Moves Ahead
She startled everyone with her words, “Don’t even think about it!”
“What???” Xie Xu was baffled by her response.
Only after speaking did Lu Yiqi realize what she had just said, and her face flushed red. What on earth had she been thinking? How embarrassing!
“What am I thinking of doing? Why don’t I know?” Xie Xu pressed from the other side.
Lu Yiqi was still pondering how to answer when a deep, low laugh sounded.
“What are you laughing at?”
“You,” came the same deep voice.
Lu Yiqi looked up and met Xie Xu’s profound gaze.
“I was going to say…” Xie Xu suddenly spoke, his voice trembling, as though he was suppressing laughter. “There’s a grain of rice at the corner of your mouth. It looks rather silly.”
What?
Lu Yiqi instinctively touched the corner of her mouth, but found nothing there.
Before she could glance at Xie Xu in confusion, she heard his voice again.
“No, it’s the right side.”
She quickly brushed the right corner of her mouth and finally removed the grain of rice.
“Thank you.”
A soft “Mhm” came from Xie Xu’s throat. Suddenly feeling thirsty, he picked up the glass of orange juice on the table, tipped his head back slightly and took a sip. The movement of his Adam’s apple was clearly visible as he swallowed.
After dinner, Lu Yiqi walked Xie Xu to the door. “I’ll see you off to here. Your place is just across the street, you can go the rest of the way yourself.”
Xie Xu raised his chin in acknowledgment.
Lu Yiqi stood in place, wanting to watch him leave, but a full minute passed and Xie Xu was still standing there, unmoving.
What was he doing?
She couldn’t help but remind him, “Shouldn’t you get going now?”
“Mhm.” The boy didn’t budge.
“So… go on, then?”
“Alright.” Still, the boy didn’t move.
Lu Yiqi: “???”
She hesitantly gave Xie Xu a gentle push. “Do you… have something you want to say?”
His Adam’s apple bobbed. “Yeah.”
“So, what is it?”
His dark eyes reflected her image, and his voice was low and hoarse, irresistibly charming. “Will we continue tomorrow?”
“Continue what?”
“Tutoring.”
Almost without thinking, Lu Yiqi replied, “Sure.”
After hearing her answer, Xie Xu’s mood inexplicably lifted. With a hint of pride, he replied, “Alright, I’m off.”
By the time Lu Yiqi collected herself again, Xie Xu had already returned home.
She walked toward her own room, replaying the scene in her mind.
Will we continue tomorrow?
Sure.
Had she really agreed just like that???
She must have been dazzled by his good looks. She gave her head a little shake.
During dinner, when he laughed about the grain of rice at the corner of her mouth, for a moment, she almost thought he would get up, come over and wipe it away himself. Thankfully, he only gave her a verbal reminder.
And when Yan Yi tutored her before, she’d listened, but it was all just going in one ear and out the other, forcing herself to pay attention.
But today, with Xie Xu’s help, aside from a single yawn at the start, she’d finished her homework earnestly and attentively.
Even now, she could still recall a few of the problems Xie Xu had emphasized.
This was all far too strange.
Still, from everything that had happened today, Lu Yiqi was starting to believe that Xie Xu really did like her.
This was—
No, she thought, she needed to move up her plan: she had to find a guy and test whether Xie Xu truly liked her!
