Lu Yiqi also brought along a set of math test papers.
Oh, if her mother knew that she was woken up at six thirty just to study, she’d probably be moved to tears.
Fighting off her drowsiness, she opened the test papers and began working on the problems. Xie Xu watched her, occasionally glancing at his phone.
Ten minutes later, Lu Yiqi had solved two multiple-choice questions but had already yawned twelve times.
Xie Xu frowned. “Do you want to sleep?”
“Of course,” she replied almost instinctively.
“Alright.” Xie Xu pulled the papers from her hand and set them aside, then took the pen from her grip, capped it, and placed it on top of the papers. “Go upstairs and sleep.”
“Huh???”
You woke me up to study, and now that I’m studying, you’re telling me to sleep?
Are all top students’ minds this unpredictable?
Seeing her unmoved, Xie Xu asked, “Aren’t you going?”
“But… what about you if I go to sleep?”
“I’m heading home to play games. I’ll come back for you this afternoon.”
“…Oh.”
Xie Xu stared at her for two seconds, then reached out and gently tapped her head. His voice was soft, both coaxing and affectionate, lingering in the air, “Be good, go get some sleep.”

Then Lu Yiqi turned around and headed upstairs.
It wasn’t until she was back in bed that she suddenly realized: Why did she just go upstairs because he told her to? And what was that about him just now patting her head?
No matter how she puzzled over it, she couldn’t make sense of it, and, lost in thought, she drifted off to sleep.

It was as if it had all been timed perfectly—just after she finished lunch, the doorbell rang.
Lu Yiqi opened the door to let Xie Xu in.
Chen Wan had been curled up on the sofa watching her soap opera, but hearing the commotion, she turned and saw Xie Xu. She greeted him warmly, “Xiao Xie!”
“Hello, Auntie,” Xie Xu replied.
Chen Wan beamed, “Good, good. Xiao Xie, what brings you over today?”
Before Xie Xu could answer, Lu Yiqi jumped in, “Mom, he’s not here just to visit. Xie Xu is helping me with my studies. Didn’t I tell you not to hire a tutor? My classmate is helping me instead.”
“So the classmate you mentioned is Xiao Xie? What about Xiao Yan? I’m sure I saw him tutoring you last time.”
“No, I haven’t finished, Mom. The one I asked was a girl I’m close to, but she couldn’t make it today, so Yan Yi filled in for her once. For now, Xie Xu is helping me because of some reasons.”
“Oh…”
After hearing Lu Yiqi’s explanation, Xie Xu’s lips tightened into a cold, thin line.
Ha.
Yan Yi is ‘brother,’ but he’s just a ‘classmate.’
The distinctions couldn’t be clearer.

Just as Xie Xu was feeling irritated, he heard the clear, sweet voice of a certain girl.
“Mom, let me tell you, Xie Xu is amazing! My classmates say he’s the top student in our grade!”
“Xie Xu is amazing.”
The words echoed in his mind.
Damn, his mood lightened instantly.
So what if he’s just a classmate? She said he was amazing! And even used ‘super’!
Xie Xu struggled to keep his lips from curling up. “It’s not that impressive. I’m just average.”
No way he was getting cocky—he had to keep a low profile.
Chen Wan said, “Don’t be so modest, Xiao Xie. Alright, you two go upstairs to study.”
She looked at Xie Xu, “Xiao Xie, I’ll leave Yiqi in your care.”
Xie Xu nodded. “It’s no trouble at all. Neighbors should look out for each other…”
