Carrying his tray after getting his food, Xie Xu walked toward Lu Yiqi.

Lu Yiqi had already claimed them seats in advance and waved at him. “Over here!”

At the sound of her voice, his steps paused. His pale brows lifted slightly as he walked over and sat across from her, laughter glimmering in his dark, deep-set eyes. “So you do know how to save me a seat.”

“Obviously.” Without even looking up, Lu Yiqi kept playing on her phone. Then, as if suddenly remembering something, she raised her head to glance at him and reminded him, “Try to eat a little faster. We have to head back for class when we’re done.”

“What’s the rush? There are still more than twenty minutes left.”

“Even so, hurry up for me, will you? Why does a grown man have to dawdle so much over a meal?”

“Chewing slowly increases saliva secretion, which helps with digestion and the absorption of nutrients. Do you understand?”

In the past, when he ate alone, Xie Xu always finished within five minutes and never wasted time. But ever since he had started eating breakfast and lunch with Lu Yiqi, he had somehow become painstakingly slow, taking as long as he possibly could. Even now, he spoke with perfect calm.

Lu Yiqi fell silent.

Her gaze drifted casually across the room, and she noticed a group of people in one corner pointing in their direction.

What the hell?

What was going on?

Still bewildered, Lu Yiqi spoke to the Xie Xu who was intent on eating. “Hey, look over there. Those people keep staring at us. It seems like they’re talking about us or something, and they look really excited... I’m wondering, could they be your admirers? Or maybe girls who took a fancy to your face and wanted your social media, but saw me here and didn’t dare come over? Feels like I’m blocking your romantic prospects...”

Xie Xu turned and glanced in the direction she indicated.

The ones “pointing and whispering” about them were two young girls. One of them was the same girl who had once wanted to ask him for his contact, then later wished him and Lu Yiqi a long and happy future together.

The one beside her seemed to be her best friend. The first girl kept looking their way, her face bright with excitement, animatedly gesturing as she spoke. The other listened with great seriousness, then broke into an excited expression as well, flicking occasional glances toward him.

Xie Xu could more or less guess what they were discussing.

Nothing more than the fact that the boy she had just taken a liking to already had a girlfriend, and how sweet the two of them looked together.

After swallowing the food in his mouth, Xie Xu lifted a hand and tapped the table three times to draw Lu Yiqi’s attention. Then he said slowly, “Well done, Lu Yiqi.”

Called by name, Lu Yiqi looked at him. “Why are you calling me?”

“Keep it up next time.”

“Keep what up?”

“What I mean is, next time, keep helping me ward off admirers.” Xie Xu spoke in an offhand tone. “Starting now, I’m officially hiring you as my personal heartbreaker. It’s simple. As long as you appear beside me, people will see I have you with me and tactfully back off. And if some particularly shameless girl still comes up to ask for my contact information even after seeing you at my side, you just step in and tell her straight out: I’m his girlfriend, so don’t bother. What do you think?”

“As payment, I can help you ward off admirers too. How about that?”

Lu Yiqi was speechless.

Then she said, “No. Bad deal. I don’t have nearly as many admirers as you do. There are so many women eyeing you—wouldn’t I be exhausted to death every day...?”

“All right, if that’s not worth it, we’ll change the terms.” Xie Xu looked at her leisurely. “Then... how about this? You name your price.”
